I’m not able to move onto a new Kdrama cause brain is still stuck with Saeon /YuYeon and HeeJoo. Yoo Yeon Seok and Chae Soo Bin had insane chemistry. This pairing is now on par with my favourite pairing of all time Ji Chang Wook and Nam Ji Hyun. Sorry Lee Seung Gi and Lee Se Young, you guys have to drop down a spot now.

If the whole purpose of this random plot in the last episode was to show how hot Yoo Yeon Sook looks in his black ops outfit - then the show producers and writer achieved it !
You're punishing me now. You're right in front of me and I want to hold you like crazy. Can't you see I'm holding back?
I won't hold back anymore.

I’m still mad at the writer of When The Phone Rings for the debacle that was the finale weekend - not 1 but both episodes. E12 took the cake for me. I think now I can laugh about the whole disaster.
How does a writer who gives us the best romantic arc of 2024 - eff up the whole thing in matter of minutes.
It’s a 101 on how to take the axe and chop of your own foot! Takes some level of skill to mess up a picture perfect romance.

Best summary of the finale!
My exact thoughts - Err she should be punishing you so you let her - not effing ghost her! What happened to your big plans of - let’s live happily together and I will propose after all this is over!
Yes he needs therapy - I support this! Going off to a war zone to die instead of being happy with the love of his life! All those regrets taught him zilch!
I still love these two but the finale ruined their reunion - I went along with every damn plot hole err sinkhole , but I couldn’t with the war zone nonsense!
More thoughts on the When the Phone Rings finale, written along the way:
first of all, no need to punish yourself, just let hee joo punish you.
second of all, have you considered therapy instead of going to war?
third, i do get the "feeling unworthy" part but you really did nothing wrong. you can't help being born from satan!!
i really get hee joo about waiting for happiness AGAIN. she's waited long enough. just work on yourself. it's like she's waited all of her life for her life to begin. you can't be asking her to wait some more.
that's what i said!! we're on the same wavelength here.
also yes just stop holding back.
although maybe you could've left the war zone but. whatever i guess it's safe enough.
isn't he going to be a full-time husband?? that's what i think he should do.
after the "lively home" jokes i'm adding stay-at-home dad. (daresay i liked the jokes. i've seen others try it & felt it was cringy then, but this time i'm like yes. that sounds like what he would say.)
good on her for not giving her adress to her parents. if they want her in their life, they should work for it & earn it.
okay well my dream of him as a full-time husband + dad is ruined but what we have learned (confirmed) is that he enjoys a bit of kinky role-playing and she's into it. i'm not mad about that development. she can punish him some more.
other stray thoughts: love the new name. yay!
also boy can drive, even in a dangerous situation. i guess the magnetic pull of the original sa eon was too strong not to get out of the car last time.

One of the best kisses in Kdramas! The build up and the confession and the kiss - so soft, tender and passionate. Well done to actors director and writer for picture perfect execution.

Chae Soo Bin as Hong Hee Joo
Never getting over how Chae Soo Bin emoted in this scene. Hong Hee Joo was all teary eyed , overwhelmed seeing how her love has always had eyes only for her. The feeling of being loved was so alien to her entire life and now it’s overflowing from Baek Saeon. I will never stop saying how tender and soft their moments of realising each other’s love have been in this drama.
Well done to her, the writer and director 👏🏼

I legit choked on my coffee reading this 🤣🤣🤣 so accurate ! And the guy proclaimed to her in E1 - she can’t divorce him cause he will not get involved in any scandal or rumour! This show is so dope - I love it!
She doesn't realise her pretending to be the kidnapper can arouse suspicions of an affair.
He doesn't realise him showering affection on a colleague is going to arouse affair rumours.
Truly made for each other.

When The Phone Rings - E4 that sucked me in.
Him rushing to her rescue
His expression where he couldn’t contain his surprise and happiness hearing her make a sound.
Him making her realise he cared for her father.
Him getting her favourite food in the hotel room
Him standing up to his parents for spewing nonsense against her and
Him holding her hand in the elevator never letting it go - not to assert his power over her , but because he desperately needed to hold on to her.
The interview scene - was that the start of a confession?
Him not being able to hide his surprise and joy knowing she is obsessed with him like he is.
Him confessing to his colleague he likes her
The final phone conversation - her agony, her hurt, his assurance, his belief .
Hee Joo is not supplementary pages - she is a brand new language!
Him unable to hide his happiness watching the clip where his wife is speaking - she can speak and she has been hiding this from him for 2 decades. He is upset but he is happy, happy and desperate to hear her voice. Her calling his name - that’s all that he wants now isn’t it?
Ok Baek Seong / Yoo Yoon Seok - you got me, you have me in a chokehold at this point. I’m invested in this drama.
But I’m firmly team Hee Joo at this point. She has spunk, she is quiet but stoic, she is not someone to be walked ove. Bake Seong you claim you care for her, but you haven’t told her for 3 damn years? You make him beg girl - you better not cave in to his charm and handsome looks!

When The Phone Rings - The Hook Episode3
The first 2.5 episodes felt Wattpad fan fiction coded - stern male lead Baek Seong who exerts his power and arrogance on the meek female lead Hong Hee Joo. However we are shown she is not meek as she escapes from the kidnapper owing to her own smart thinking and presence of mind. Plus she gives the male lead a real sounding off in the first episode itself and then decides to find a way out of the contract marriage by using the kidnapper’s phone to blackmail her husband . My curiosity was piqued to see how this plays out.
The arrival of an old college friend of Hee Joo leads to Baek Seong feeling jealous. While petty, jealous men in real life are a big turn off , I’m totally seated to enjoy the pettiness and suffering for handsome male leads on screen.
But it wasn’t until the bedroom scene where a hilarious petty exchange between Seong and HeeJoo takes place, that I got hooked to these two and the drama. I totally enjoyed this level of pettiness especially how HeeJoo snatches the pillow from under his head.
Clearly they are attracted to each other, but holding back their feelings. She thinks she was his compromise and once her sister is back, she will be disposed off. He had told her never to have hopes of being a couple or from this marriage, so she has suppressed all her feelings. He thinks she never wanted to marry him, so he won’t show his affections in case he gets too attached to her. But here he is, in this scene, telling her not to turn her back to him when they are sleeping together cause it’s rude - I legit choked on my drink 🤣
So here we are at E3 - someone on tumblr or threads (I can’t remember) rightly said that the best spokesperson of Blue House and the best interpreter cannot communicate with each other! Well done to the writer - I like this premise. Bring on the angst - I am here for it.
