I think what people often forget about Azula is that she's supposed to be extremely charismatic. She's not only good at tricking and manipulating people but also at inspiring them and inspiring, in particular, to do what she wants. Mai and Ty Lee are people who have known her so long and so well that she's not so intoxicating to them anymore, but most people haven't. If there's a way to talk someone into doing what she wants done, Azula can do it.

maomao is my favorite "not like other girls" style protagonist bc for one shes a girls girl through and through. to the bone. and two she's just a weird little freak. absolute lunatic. they have the whole "omg she's actually beautiful and everyone falls for her when she's all made up" trope but the punchline is that she does not fucking want to look like that. she actively puts dirt on her face every day bc she does not want to be perceived as attractive (mostly out of fear of being used for sex work though at the same time she has the utmost respect for women who do sex work like she grew up in a brothel those are her sisters). she's Sherlock level smart and solves every mystery so fast but goes "well thats none of my business. anyway back to testing poisons on myself" she has the 2nd most powerful guy in the nation head over heels in love with her and is like "man this guy is weird around me what's his deal. I guess he's fine though because he gives me rare medicines and has no dick" fucking ICON i love her. also she once slapped someone so hard they fell on the floor. 10/10

honestly, my favorite azula moment is in the episode The Chase
the dialogue with aang, and her attempt to humor the avatar really shows how she connects to others and its endearing

You find yourself in the early 2000s, Bryke has hired you as a writer for Avatar, your contract allows you to write one episode per season, and can collaborate on other episodes that Bryke aren't personally writing. What do you do?
Well, the first thing I'd do is write a "Zuko Alone" kind of episode from Azula's POV. This doesn't even have to do as much with me being an Azula fan (well, maybe a little), as it has to do with the collective agreement in the fandom that Azula's breakdown seemed a little rushed. And I also hold this opinion, tbh. Azula is a great character, but having more build-up to her breakdown by adding more of her own thoughts, memories and flashbacks would help the audience to understand her better.
I'd also make a solution to Aang's dilemma about not killing Ozai and using an energybending instead a more difficult task. I wouldn't want Aang to actually kill Ozai, but the energybending was a really last-minute solution that I wouldn't give to Aang so instantly. I think it'd be more interesting if Zuko brought up the issue of the Erth Kindgdom genocide earlier (he should've really), and Aang spent a longer time trying to come up with the idea of how to prevent Ozai from doing it without killing him, so that the final solution felt earned and I think many people would agree with my decision.
I'd do something with Hama's character. I talked about her in one of my posts, but I'll have to repeat again that her character was very, very weird. With her powers, and her confidence in using bloodbending, she could've ended the war long ago, but for some reason, she wasted all her life terrorizing random Fire Nation's citizens. I like her charecter, but I'd probably rewrite her to be a young girl, preferably Katara's age, who escaped prison not long ago and now is calculating her next move. She wants to get to Fire Lord and kill him, but at the same time she becomes a fanatic and makes random people suffer, kinda like Jet, which is understandable from a victim's of war point of view, but still not good and the Gaang unfortunately has to deal with her. Good thing she taught her technique to Katara.
And the last thing I'd do, but not the least, Jet is alive and helps the heroes in the end.🙏He didn't deserve his fate and that's all I have to say.

What does Jinx herself think about having been pumped with drug that made her more unstable without her consent? She didn't seem to hold grudge against Singed or Silco for this, so I guess she was okay with this?
Well, Singed was just a tool in Silco's hands, so he's emotionally irrelevant to Jinx, but she didn't blame Silco because Shimmer saved her life. To Jinx, this wasn't really a violation, if anything, to her this was a proof of Silco's devotion, toxic or not. The resentment was likely buried under the mountain of other trauma, but in the end, Silco called her shimmer-cloaked self "perfect", so even if Jinx had a choice, resenting the surgery might have felt like resenting the core of what Silco finally told her she was: "Perfect." And that was the one thing she needed too much to question .

I think an underrepresented cause of Ursa's neglect towards Azula is the reality of what happens if she doesn't become Ozai? Because what's really left for her without ruthless progression? She turns into Ursa, married to a man for (at best) political reasons and resigned to spend her whole life with a man she probably doesn't love having kids she never wanted while the people she knew excel in their positions and live better and more fulfilling lives. No matter how you chock it up, being a second born and a daughter sucks.

What would Azula think and feel about the state of the world during and post-LoK in the unlikely event her imperialist beliefs have remained intact for that long? What do you think she might do?
Considering that Azula remains an imperialist, she would despise the state of the world during and post-LOK simply because the Fire Nation doesn't rule it. That's it, she wouldn't need any other reason to hate it. As for the second question, I'm certain that in any world Azula finds herself in, she would want to do only one thing: make a name for herself and let it remain in history, whatever it might take.

Oh, I'm sure that given Azula's talent and intelligence, she'd be able to think of something. After all, she was always good at finding solutions to seemingly impossible tasks👌
How would Azula feel about bloodbending if she saw someone perform it?
Azula would be both fascinated and alarmed. She would admire the power and control, yet see bloodbending as a dangerous skill that challenges her own mastery of firebending. Knowing Azula, I think she'd be angry that she can't counterattack and would spend a lot of time trying to find a way to deal with it.

Question for once you've finished watching Arcane: do you think it'd make more sense (thematically, politically, character-wise, plot-wise, etc.) to have Violet and Jinx reconcile and fight toward a common goal again, or have their relationship permanently damaged, and always be on the opposite sides because of their different ideologies like Vander and Silco?
Actually, I think it makes perfect sense for Violet and Jinx to remain on opposite sides, reflecting the tragic divide that trauma can create. Much like Vander and Silco, their conflict demonstrates how personal wounds and beliefs can tear even the closest bonds apart. However, I like how the show does offer us some hope with an open ending, hinting at Jinx's survival and allowing us to imagine what might happen next. Even though Jinx has already left Vi's life, there's still some hope that if she's alive, they might see each other again one day. I personally like this ambiguity, and find this kind of hopeful uncertainty more satisfying than a clear reconciliation. Sometimes, it's good when a show leaves us with some unanswered questions. Things like this keep our interest in the show alive long after it ends.

The thing I think that gets most mischaracterised about Azula in fandom is the fact that Azula, canonically, is really silly and thinks she's the funniest person in the world in the most earnest way possible.
Like sure, you have a different take on how Azula's mental illness manifests? That's fair, we don't have a lot of info on it or her psyche (within the show), you have a different take on how many friends she had and how much they liked/feared her? Alright, that's environmental and isn't even necessarily up to her. But if your Azula isn't cracking jokes and then laughing at them, that's not Azula. That's someone else.
