Psychics
Psychics are people with the unique ability to alter or observe reality in ways that most normal people can't.
Many psychics begin to show their abilities as children, though there is a link between hormones and psychic abilities expressing themselves as many psychics first develop their abilities while going through puberty and there has been instances of psychic abilities either appearing or growing in power during pregnancy, with the psychic abilities also believed to be passed down to the child being carried in the womb.
History of Psychics
For most of history, psychics were viewed with fear and distrust due to superstition believing their abilities were magic, granted to them by demons and many were shunned or even killed.
It wasn't until the 1850s that people began researching the nature of psychic abilities, though there was still much unknown about them, and then in 1881 the Paranormal Society of Research was founded by Dr. Henry David Sparks and Florence Ward (a psychic herself) which led to more research being done into psychic abilities and there was a shift in the perception of psychics from beings of evil to admired celebrities. However, this shift wasn't entirely a positive thing, as there were many sham psychics that popped up which led to psychics facing suspicion of their abilities and for psychics with actual abilities, there was an unfortunate risk of them being abused and manipulated for their abilities, often pushed to their limits and becoming injured or dead by overuse.
It was in 1928, with genetics being better understood, that Dr. Amelia Everett who was a British parapsychologist with a background in genetics, began looking into the idea that psychic abilities were related to genetics. Enlisting the help of Corinne St. Laurent, a French Canadian psychic who had the power of retrocognition the two discovered that both Corinne's mother and grandmother had the same ability as Corinne, and found more female relatives in her history that possibly might have the ability though they also found instances of the ability skipping a generation, especially if a daughter only had sons as she found psychic abilities appearing far more prominently in girls than boys. Dr. Everett determined the appearance of psychic abilities was the result of a recessive gene, though she also found instances of psychic abilities appearing in people with no previous ancestors showing such an ability. Later studies would theorize that psychic abilities could go dormant through an atavism (in which an ancestral genetic trait reappears after having been lost) perhaps as a method of self-preservation and would appear through moments of high stress.
Psychic Abilities
Psychic abilities are put into two main categories: receptive (meaning the ability presents itself internally with no external evidence) and projective (the ability presents itself in the physical world with external abilities). While most abilities only fall under one category, a few fall into both categories.
Telekinesis (classification: projective): The ability to manipulate matter with your mind, the most common variation of this is the ability to move objects or people, however there are sub-types related to the manipulation of elements such as fire, water, etc. One of the more common psychic abilities and easily the most dangerous, especially if a psychic becomes emotional. Psychics with this ability are called Telekinetic, Pyrokinetics etc.
Astral Projection (classification: receptive): The ability to separate your spirit from your body, allowing you to enter the astral plane. Psychics with this ability can also enter people’s dreams or minds in order to communicate with them. Using this ability however puts one’s body into an comatose state, leaving you vulnerable to attacks.
Empathy (classification: receptive and projective): One of only two abilities to be classified as both categories, it is the ability to sense and understand another’s emotions, as well as even manipulate a person’s emotions to make them feel a certain way or share another person’s emotions with them. Psychics with this ability are called Empaths. Telepathy (classification: receptive and projective): The other ability classified as both categories, Telepathy is one of the most powerful abilities along with Telekinesis. This ability allows one to not only read another’s mind (at its most powerful, without them even knowing) as well as communicate with them mentally. More skilled psychics with this ability can outright control a person and even modify or erase memories, making them one of the more feared psychics. Psychics with this ability are called Telepaths.
Clairvoyance (classification: receptive): Also called ESP, it is one of the more common psychic abilities with several other abilities falling under its umbrella. It is the ability to gain information about an object, person, place or event beyond normal means. A psychic with this ability might have a vision of what has already happened or is about to happen (Retrocognition and Precognition) or may see a location far away from them that they shouldn’t be able to see even with the help of technology (Remote Viewing). They may also be able to tell what has happened to a person or object by reading them through touch or find a person by touching something that has belonged to them (Psychometry). Many psychics only show one of these abilities, but others might display some or all of these abilities though they can cause a great strain. Psychics with this ability are called Clairvoyants as a broad term, though other terms are used if their ability is more specialized (Seer for those with Retrocognition or Precognition). Mediumship (classification: receptive): The ability to perceive and communicate with both ghosts who walk on the mortal plane and those who have moved on to the afterlife. One of the more unique psychics, as many of them show abilities associated with clairvoyance but only limited to the dead i.e a medium might only sense the emotions of the dead. They can channel ghosts by offering their bodies as a temporary host, though it can be risky as the ghosts may refuse to leave. Powerful psychics with this ability can even repel or banish ghosts from an area, either temporarily or permanently. Psychics with this ability are called mediums.

So, did not expect to have to make this post, but for those not aware: a user by the name of nyuuzyou decided to do an unauthorized scrape of art and writing from several different websites including A03 to HuggingFace (which is basically a machine learning (AI) website that people upload databases, applications and models). Two posts have been made about this, one by a moderator of the r/A03 reddit community and one by another user both of which I'll link here:
From what I've been able to gleam from comments on the threads, the datasets were created by processing works with IDs from 1 to 63,200,000 that are publicly accessible. Further comments clarified that means everything up to I believe March of this year that isn't archive locked could be included in this dataset (I'm not 100% sure about this, but that is what I've gathered). My fanfics are all likely part of this dataset, as they have not been archive-locked.
The dataset that was uploaded to HuggingFace has been disabled due to people issuing DMCAs (though the user is counter-claiming) but he has also uploaded the datasets to modelscope and datafish which are a China and Russia site respectively. More information can be found on PaperDemon including how to claim DMCA for your own work here. As for me, I chose to keep my fics not archive-locked even after the first attempts because I still wanted guests to be able to enjoy them, but after this I am going to be archive-locking all my works so you will require an account to access and comment on them. If you see this post, maybe reblog it and others like to spread the word because this should not be okay.

In the larger circle are grey, misty tendrils filling in the gap between it and the smaller circle. The background is of a grey and black large library.
End Image Description]
The Paranormal Society of Research
-> "Founded in 1881, The Paranormal Society of Research (often abbreviated to PSR or simply called The Paranormal Society) remains the primary organization dedicated to research and investigation about claims of paranormal and psychic phenomena. It has its own teams of investigators to conduct investigations, as well as provides funding to approved external individual investigations and investigation agencies, and provides research into the nature of psychic abilities as well as offers guidance to psychics in understanding and controlling their abilities." <-
Founded by Dr. Henry David Sparks, a psychologist and known skeptic, and Florence Ward, daughter of Lord Ward and a medium and clairvoyant who had been working together since 1979 in travelling Europe and America investigating claims of paranormal phenomena. While many of their findings debunked such claims, they did also find astounding proof of psychic abilities and paranormal activity that left even Dr. Sparks questioning his own beliefs.
They would later be joined by Abraham Kane, a German telekinetic and telepath who became the founder of the Kane family of psychics as well as Florence Ward's eventual husband, Eleanor Hatlen, a physics researcher and early suffragette and G.M Seymore who was a well-known American businessman with an interest in the occult who provided much of the early funding. These five would form the first PSR Council, though there was speculation of tensions within the group due to Kane's desire to take credit and be in control of the organization among other reasons.
The Society would be plagued by many scandals throughout the years, relating to accusations of fraud by members of the organization that was swept under the rug and abuse of genuine psychics who were often pushed to the brink, which would often times result in injury or death.
In modern times, while a non-profit organization, it wields a lot of influence within the parapsychology community in regards to its research and funding. Many critics, however, argue it now doesn't care as much about the dead or the living, focusing more on profit than anything else and has a habit of playing favourites or blacklisting its opponents.

Edit 03/28/25
So I've gone ahead and edited this post, because I liked the idea of using the Heller Scale as this kind of assessment rather than putting each type of ghost into one specific category, instead having it as levels of threat that can cause a ghost type to change their behaviour depending on the threat level they are.
I will go through and update the actual ghost posts, eventually.

Ghosts
-> "Ghosts are those who have died, but cannot move on for various reasons: love, revenge or simply not realizing they have died. Some ghosts are tied to their place of death, metaphorically and perhaps literally chained to it while others roam freely; other ghosts may be tied to an object of sentimental value, and thus they follow the object.
Most ghosts are harmless, merely trying to accomplish whatever unfinished business traps them on the mortal plane before moving on. Others, however, have far more dangerous intentions and some only want to inflict harm and suffering upon those who still live.
Ghosts can come in many different forms, and to properly classify these types and their threats, the Heller scale was created by Dr. Bennett Heller as a way of ranking ghost types and has since become the primary method of classification used by parapsychology experts and students <-
There are nine different types of ghosts, each with their own specific characteristics and traits: Wight, Visitant, Looper, Shade, Poltergeist, Doppelganger, Bogey, Wraith and Phantom.
In addition to the types of ghosts, each individual ghost is assessed on their threat level using the Heller Scale, divided into three main levels: Tame, Moderate and High Risk.
Tame Ghosts
Calm, mainly friendly ghosts that don't pose a threat to the living. They're mainly haunting because they're trapped, by their deaths or events that happened around their deaths and merely need a guiding hand to move on.
Moderate Ghosts
Ghosts who may have been trapped for a long time and have started to experience a change in their behaviour or suffered a violent death, can easily turn violent if their obsession is threatened. These ghosts can still be reasoned with, but depending on their emotional state, may have to be exorcised.
High Risk Ghosts
Ghosts who have either been trapped for so long they've forgotten who they are or who have become so fueled by anger they seek nothing but to cause harm. They can also be ghosts who committed great wrongs in life and, as punishment, have become trapped on the mortal. The most dangerous kind of ghosts, ones who must be exorcised or otherwise forced off the mortal plane.
Certain ghost types are more prone to be one level over the others, for example Visitants are mainly only Tame types, however ghosts can switch from one level to the next if they're angered or their haunting is interrupted or disturbed in any way, a Wight for example can switch from Tame to Moderate or even High Risk if what they're protecting is threatened in any way.
Assessing both a ghost's type and level is crucial, in order to properly conduct an investigation and reach a satisfactory conclusion for both the dead and the living.

WTW POWER PROMPTS - DAY #3: MECHANICS
An excerpt from Introduction to the Classification of Psychic Abilities by Dr. Amelia Everett ->
Psychic abilities are divided into two main categories: receptive (meaning the ability presents itself internally with no external evidence) and projective (the ability presents itself in the physical world with external evidence) though some abilities fall into both categories. In terms of inheritance, generally children will inherit the abilities of their psychic parent, however there have been cases of psychics having their abilities evolve i.e a psychic with precognition develops the ability of retrocognition and vice versa. A psychic's ability can grow over time, becoming stronger though it can also diminish in power, particularly if a psychic chooses to suppress their ability though so far no cases of a psychic ability vanishing have been witnessed. Known Psychic Abilities are as follows: Telekinesis (classification: projective): The ability to manipulate matter with your mind, the most common variation of this is the ability to move objects or people, however there are sub-types related to the manipulation of elements such as fire, water, etc. One of the more common psychic abilities and easily the most dangerous, especially if a psychic becomes emotional. WTW POWER PROMPTS - DAY #2: USERS
From the book What are Psychics? by Dr. Amelia Everett ->
Psychics are people with the unique ability to alter or observe reality in ways that most normal people can't. Psychic abilities are believed to be the result of a recessive gene, which only shows when two copies of the gene are present. There is also evidence that psychic abilities can skip a generation, for example if a psychic's grandmother was a psychic who married a non-psychic, the psychic's mother never showed any abilities then the psychic developed their grandmother's abilities. However, it is theorized that people with no clear line of psychic ancestry are able to gain psychic abilities particularly in a moment of high stress such as dying and coming back to life, through an atavism (where an ancestral genetic trait reappears after having been lost). Further theories speculate the gene may have gone dormant to protect the psychic and their descendants from prosecution during the days where psychics were viewed as either witches or demons, but nothing conclusive has been proven. In addition, it is believed that women and girls are far more likely to develop psychic abilities, indeed in studies performed it was found that daughters and granddaughters of psychics were more likely to receive their parent or grandparent's psychic abilities than sons and grandsons were.

WTW POWER PROMPTS - DAY #1: ORIGINS
An excerpt from Understanding Psychics : A Look at Psychic Abilities from Magic to Genetics by Corinne St. Laurent ->
"It is unknown when, exactly, the first psychic was recorded though many historians suspect it might have been when humans started walking the earth, what is known is that psychics as we now know them were not recorded as such in early historical records. Instead they were called witches, demons etc as their abilities were attributed to magic and superstition drew people to fear them, shun and shame them and even kill them. There are countless records of people claiming to speak to the dead, of being plagued by visions or knowing things they shouldn't. Whether or not these are all true cannot be confirmed, as no research into psychic abilities exists before the 1850s. With a rising fascination for ghosts and the supernatural, it created interest in psychic abilities that could interact with this world and early studies and experiments started to be conducted into these psychic abilities, starting the field that would become known as Parapsychology..."

[Begin Image Description: A blurry face shaded grey and glitching with the word Obsessions written in black, scratched writing with a white matching shadow behind it bordered by a flattened hexagon
End Image Description]
Obsessions
-> "In the early days of parapsychology, one question was constantly being asked: why do some ghosts haunt and others don't? When some people die, their spirit is more than content to move on but others remain on the mortal plane and some even become attached to people, rather than places.
Eventually, as more investigations were conducted and research was done, a parapsychologist named Dr. Irma Hatlen developed the idea that ghosts who haunt do so because of something driving them, what she dubbed obsessions" <-
Obsessions are the driving force of a ghost's haunting; not all ghosts have obsessions, visitants for example rarely have obsessions as they merely visit from the spirit world for a short time before leaving.
Obsessions range from the mundane to the dangerous, a ghost can develop an obsession with their favourite chair for example and might haunt because their chair was removed from its original spot while other ghosts have an obsession with their murder, wanting justice in order to move on.
Ghosts can also develop an obsession over time and the obsession can grow, for example a person is murdered and their murderer is never caught, their ghost becomes trapped and as they remain stuck on the mortal plane, they develop an obsession over their murder and, after remaining dormant, start to haunt.
The most common way for a parapsychologist or psychic to get a ghost to move on is to find out a ghost's obsession and how to solve it: getting justice for a ghost will help a ghost who is obsessed with their murder move on, finding and burying the body of a ghost that never received a proper burial helps a ghost that is obsessed over their lack of a proper burial move on etc.
However, as ghosts remain stuck over longer periods of time, even they might forget the obsession that's keeping them there, which makes it trickier to figure out why they remain. And in the most extreme cases, a ghost's obsession can twist them into a being of rage that even if their obsession is solved, they cannot attain true peace and must be dispensed of in other ways...

2024 Writing Round Up
Hello all!
As this year comes to a close, I thought I would give a little bit of a writing round up as to what I've done and what I hope to do in the new year in terms of my writing (both fandom and original).
I'm going to divide this up into different sections to make things a bit easier:
Fanfics
In term of my fanfics, I've run into the same problem as I have every other year, being I keep getting plot bunnies which distract me from my current WIPs 😆, but I have actually started two (three if you count my other secret project that isn't really associated with this account) fanfic projects that I have not started posting yet, because I plan to finish at least a chunk of it before I start posting it.
The first fanfic project is Central Magic, which I actually started in Nov of 2023 which is a FMA Sabrina the Teenager Witch AU series I planned to start posting in October, but ultimately decided not to as I got very busy and wasn't able to finish it so I will likely start posting it (hopefully) this upcoming October. In terms of word count (excluding the two parts I haven't finished writing), this project has a word count of 80,705 words with the average word count being around 10,088 and that's also excluding the edits I still have to do for some parts and the two parts that have not been finished yet. The total parts for the first season will be 10, with the parts that are over 10k being split being into smaller parts.
The second fanfic project is more recent, which is The Holloway Legacy that started because I saw an edit of Rafael Barba from Law & Order: SVU, I started to watch the seasons he was in and it just blew up from there. It is a Rafael Barba x OC fanfic series that will go from Seasons 14-23 following the Holloway sisters and their relationships with Barba and the rest of the SVU throughout the seasons, with canon divergence starting at the very end of Season 14. As of right now, the project is sitting at 20,988 words and I'm sure that count will grow as I finish the rest of the 14th season. I don't know when I will be posting this fic, though I do know I will probably cross-post it on both A03 and Wattpad.
In total, that means I have written a total of 101, 693 words combined for these projects, and if you add in the other word counts of my other fanfics that are published, that brings the total up to over 150k words which makes me feel rather accomplished considering how draining real life has been in terms of keeping me away from writing.
Original Works
In terms of my original WIPs, my writing is definitely less than my fanfics which is likely influenced by real life being tiring, and when I get the energy to write, I tend to focus on my fanfics but I do hope to start working on my original WIPs more in the new year.
With that in mind, for my original WIPs:
With a Spark of Magic
My first WIP I started posting about, and probably the one I've made the most progress on as it is currently sitting at 27,052 words.
But it's also the one that has changed the most, and the one I haven't really touched this year for a variety of reasons related to real life. I'm not 100% sure if I will continue it as it is, I might adapt it into another story or re-use the concepts but I'm still uncertain about.
Deadly Crown and Luna Paranormal Investigations
I'm grouping these together as I've made about the same amount of progress on them (that being, I'm still on chapter one of both).
Deadly Crown is currently sitting at 1535 words and Luna Paranormal Investigations is at 2260 words.
Luna Paranormal Investigations is probably the WIP I plan to work on the most in the new year, as I really find myself resonating with it.
Looking into 2025
Going forward into 2025, I hope to write more of my original WIPs, (perhaps even adapting elements of my older WIPs together) while still working on my fanfics and hopefully getting the two fanfic projects I mentioned above posted.
With that in mind, my writing goals for 2025:
Work more on Luna Paranormal Investigations
Revisit With a Spark of Magic and Deadly Crown (maybe even merge the two concepts together?🤔)
Finish Central Magic and The Holloway Legacy, at least the first parts.
2024 has certainly been a year, and 2025 is probably going to be equally so, but I do wish every single one of you happy holidays and a hopeful new year.
Best wishes,
Lizzy <3

Phantom
(personally my advice if you see one of these is RUN AS FAST AS YOU FUCKING CAN IF YOU SEE IT COMING YOUR WAY)
Notes
Easily the most dangerous type of spirit one can encounter, only a few documented cases have been recorded due to their volatile nature (lucky us that we ended up finding one, yeah our luck really sucks...).
While other spirits want justice or to look after a person they left behind, phantoms were once people who inflicted immense pain and cruelty in life and, in death, continue to do so. Their obsession comes from the feeling that what they left unfinished was inflicting harm, and they continue to cause pain and suffering in their afterlife.
Phantoms are one of the more unique ghost types for two reasons: one is that other ghost types cannot become a Phantom due to their nature and the other is that Phantoms go through a growth cycle where they switch between all three levels throughout their lifespan.
As a Tame ghost, during the early stages as they adapt to their death usually for a period of anywhere from a few months to a year, Phantoms mainly are a presence, lurking in the corner of your mind and cause symptoms such as dizziness, nausea and even making the living feel angry when they shouldn't have any reason to.
When they evolve into a Moderate ghost they begin physically showing themselves, as apparitions and by playing with the living, touching or grabbing them.
At the final stage they become High Risk, now actively seeking to harm the living and can even kill.
If a Phantom is discovered as a Tame or Moderate, they can be cleansed or banished but once they become High Risk force must be used in order to get rid of them. Most cases of Phantoms have involved them being High-Risk, as they're hard to detect as a Tame ghost and as a Moderate they are often mistaken for other ghost types (of course the most dangerous ghost is hard to catch when they're not a threat...)

Wraith
Notes
A type of spirit that develops a obsession with a specific person due to the belief that person wronged them in life and now seek revenge in their afterlife.
Rather than being bound to a place, they are bound to their target and will haunt them for the entirety of the afterlife; however if their target cannot be found, they will instead choose those who remind them of their target.
A Tame Wraith often has not reached the point of actually seeking vengeance against the person or people who have wronged them, rather they will attempt to get them to either confess or tell other people what they have done either by communicating with their voice (often through screams) or by making the living feel what was done to them. A Moderate Wraith however, fueled by years of being trapped on the mortal plane with no justice, will start actively lashing out and a High Risk Wraith seeks to get their own kind of justice, attacking anyone unfortunate enough to be in the vicinity.
Tame and Moderate Wraiths are relatively easy to convince to move on, especially with the help of a Medium as well as an experienced Parapsychologist, but a High Risk Wraith requires an exorcism (and they put up one hell of a fight people always say that life is too short for grudges well your afterlife is forever which makes it a great time to hold a grudge).
