Last month was monumental with back to back gigs from the two of the finest bands to ever grace this planet. With 20+ years of delivering stellar sonic compositions under their belts, The National and Phoenix delivered big on their live sets. With those punchy, energetic, nostalgic, and emotional “this song belongs on a soundtrack” type moments, longtime fans (like moi) were treated to arguably their best performances in Brisbane to date. A month on and I still have the feels. Truly memorable. Tonight Lana Del Rey rocks into town with her band to bang out a bunch of songs from her already extensive back catalogue. Live music log entry (2018) #1: “40 is the new black”. Turning 40 has been an interesting one to say the least although it has brought with it a plethora of live music events one must attend. This year started off with a bang. From the dreamy English guitar riffs and sexy vocals of ‘The xx’, to the 90’s indie/shoegaze/electronic head trip of Melbourne’s ‘Underground Lovers’ followed by a intimate, jazz-infused rainy Saturday night with ‘Emma Pask’, each show I’ve been lucky enough to attend this year so far has been exceptional.
