Saw httyd remake a week ago

It was actually so damn good like you wouldn't believe

And unlike a certain conglomerate they didn't completely butcher and bastardize the themes and messaging of the original

Instead it takes the original animated version and trims a bit of the fat and overall gives it an ever so slightly, darker tone and makes everything feel more organic

But when I mean darker, it's like light gray to slightly darker grey. All they did was cut a good amount of jokes and make it more serious

Next thing I will say is the two scenes they cut out, if you consider those spoilers please reload the site so you don't see the rest

So the scene where toothless & hiccup sneak into Gobber's forge at night to get some of his blueprints but get caught by Astrid has been completely removed

It's replacement is giving Astrid a scene in the mead hall where she airs out her grievances towards Hiccup straight to his face, as well as her having slightly more screen time in the dragon training scenes where she gets more and more annoyed and suspicious of Hiccup until it culminates with her showing up in the cove the day before Hiccup has to fight the nightmare

The other scene that was cut was the one after the first successful flight where Hiccup and Toothless where they're sitting on the shore eating fish when a bunch of terrible terrors start trying to steal some

This one did not get a replacement which I both agree and disagree on

I agree that it's pretty irrelevant to the movie at that point and only really serves to have Hiccup say "Everything we know about you guys.. Is wrong.."

Which is very clearly established at this point because we've already had the dragon training montage where Hiccup uses all the tricks he picked up from hanging with Toothless

But the only thing that tied this scene to the movie was that

THIS WAS WHERE HE LEARNED THE THING TO TAKE DOWN THE RED DEATH

THAT should have been somewhere else

My only rationalization is that he must have picked up on it via the Hideous Zippleback needing to use the other head to light the gas and come to realize one headed dragons do both and he could set it off from the inside

But that's too much of a stretch

Actual stuff from the remake now, you've been warned

Alright I'm tired this is gonna be bullet points

- they gave fishlegs, the nut twins, and snotlout actual personalities instead of just being stuck as the 'annoying' comic relief characters

Btw we stan autism dragon hyperfixation Fishlegs in this house

- Snotlout and his dad are relevant and they have somewhat of a character arc through the film because he wants to earn his dad's respect and not be shunned in public by him

- when Stoick goes to find the dragon's nest for the first time it's genuinely creepy and the dragons do actually attack and swarm the boats, some people get knocked overboard and like one guy is dragged down by an underwater dragon and the people on the other boats are actually fucking dead

- almost every scene except for some of the new ones and extended ones are 1:1 with the original, except for some choice jokes being cut

- the actor for Gobber doesn't do his accent which I am very sad about, but he's still very good at playing the character and doing said voice to the best of his ability

Also they swapped the placements of his prosthetic arm and leg

Because the actor actually has a bad leg which is the opposite of the animated Gobber, so they swapped them around to make his movements feel believable

- Hiccup doesn't do the "I'm gonna rip out your heart and hand it to my dad because I. AM. A. VIKING!"

- and he puts Astrid on a giant rock over the water instead of sticking her in a tree before their "a whole new world" flight

Yeah I think that about covers everything

All in all, the remake is phenomenal, and does a grand job at making the original feel more mature & serious. Almost like it grew up in the 15 years since it first released.

Doesn't matter which version you watch, it's still the same cinematic beauty down to the blood and bone marrow

9/10 please go see the remake it will not do you wrong

For me on the other hand, I don't really have much problem holding the system and keeping it up

Only issue remotely close is when I play while laying in bed the arm I am on starts to go numb and I have to roll over to the other side

Beyond that it feels really good in the hands and the smooth anti-sweat coating they have on the controllers is really nice to feel to the point I find myself sort of caressing the pro controller when I pick it up to move it

Sorry if this is a bother or you've already answered a similar ask, but i was wondering how the switch 2 feels like to hold? I've got like.. the worlds smallest and weakest wrists plus tiny hands, so just the normal switch is uncomfortable or even painful sometimes to play on. If i get a switch 2, it's gonna be secondhand and in a couple of years once my disibility aid is settled but I'd love to know how idk... wieldable? It is right nyow and you wrote that you like talking about new toys so i thought asking you could be cool!

not a bother at all!!! Unfortunately the weight/ergonomics situation is really one of my primary complaints abt the Switch 2 right now. it is a good bit larger and heavier than switch OLED. i have somewhat average-to-small hands and while the buttons and such are easy enough to reach and manage it’s really not an especially comfortable device. it’s almost exactly at the halfway point in terms of weight between the Switch 1 and the Steam Deck (both OLED), and that extra 100 grams or so makes a noticeable difference in comfort especially because the device is exactly as flat backed and thin as the original Switch. for me, using it when sitting up or standing is totally fine and comfortable for the most part, but i literally can not play it for any longer than a few minutes laying down without some kind of added grip. it kinda digs into the palms of my hands a bit and i start to get cramps/tingles very quickly. would definitely recommend preparing for the wieldability to be an issue if u get ur hands on one, maybe consider getting a third party grip case to go alongside it if that’s in the cards. i’ve been trying a few for myself so ill have some opinions on those in time.

Alright after 2 days I can say for certain what the only issue with switch 2 is the battery life

The performance, controllers, everything is perfect except for the battery life

Hopefully they will make an upgraded model with better battery in the future and then allow people to send in their consoles to get new batteries installed

For a price of course, since this is an upgrade not a repair.

I believe that's called a mugging

In Super Mario Sunshine, there is a Pianta carrying mushrooms in Delfino Plaza who finds himself on fire at one point, so that Mario must put out the fire, for which he is awarded a Blue Coin.

However, before this, the Pianta is simply wandering around Delfino Plaza. It is actually possible to receive that Pianta's Blue Coin before he is ever set on fire because the game's code simply looks at whether an NPC has been "rescued" to decide to dispense its associated reward. The oversight here is that "being rescued" is a state that is shared across a fire being doused and the NPC being saved from goop.

As such, it is possible to bring goop to the Pianta by sliding to create goop trails. Whenever he walks over a goop trail, he will sink into it. Saving him from the goop sets the same "rescued" flag that saving him from the fire would have, causing him to give Mario the Blue Coin.

In the end, this creates a humorous scenario where Mario knows he will be rewarded for rescuing an NPC from danger, but does not want to wait for the NPC to get into danger by himself, so he creates the danger just to get the reward ahead of time.

You can't gain anything from something if it's done for you. Be it knowledge, or creative skills. The only thing that happens to you is that you sort of degrade your mind & skill set, and that's all that AI does.

The more you use it, the dumber you become, and the more you're reliant on it to solve your problems through sketchy and plagiarising means.

After going to bed, forgetting about it, procrastinating, and then forgetting again, it's finally time to make my points about Mario Kart World and it's pricing of $105

Well, this has already happened before with Tears of The Kingdom, so you can't complain that this is new and or out of nowhere

And unlike Tears, MKW is a completely new game that doesn't reuse the same map and fuck loads of reused assets and models

I'm sorry I still can't think straight I'm not complaining about ToTK anymore that's for another time

I speculate why it's about $15 more than Tears is because of two things

1. - Mario Kart is more replayable than an open world RPG

Just think about it for a moment. After you finish a 100 hour RPG from back to front, when would you start playing it again? Would you pick it back up after a day? A week? How about a year?

But with Mario Kart on the other hand, you can always keep coming back to it and always have fun

You can always bust it out at parties and have a great time

2. - Mario Kart is a lot more easier to play and learn than a 3D open world action/adventure game

My dad can barely wrap his head around newer games nowadays, but no matter which one, without fail, he can pick up a controller and always kick my ass in Mario Kart, regardless of how much time passes between plays

If not that then Wii bowling

$79.99 - game itself

$20 - size and scope of content

$5 - replayability

$5 - ease of play

$10 - idk local multiplayer with people who don't down the game?? Fuck all of this is a stretch

Ahhh what the hell am I doing

As much as I try I can't explain the why

I just need to play it and see everything to finally understand it

My mantra for the whole Switch 2 pricing predicament has just been "I don't have to like it, I just need to understand it."

I don't need to be happy with a $650 price tag, I just need to find out what led to that choice

And I can find that for the console

But I can't for the games, since being secret is the whole point of buying it. Since you want to see everything they didn't show you

I didn't pre order the switch 2 as a fuck you to the people protesting the price

I did it because I am very sad right now and I want to play the new mario kart on a system that doesn't have the processing power of an electronic weight scale from 10 years ago
