[01:01 pm] — haewon ushers you and suhyeon into the bleachers, where they had miraculously managed to find three empty seats amidst what they believed to be no less than 80% of the student body. heart thumping harshly against your chest, excitement practically pumping through your veins, you take your seat between haewon and suhyeon and clasp your hands together.

“this is insane, they make an announcement less than two hours before they perform and there are people here i haven't even seen before,” suhyeon snorts, glancing around where they sit.

your eyes travel to the centre of the stadium, where on the soft patch of grass that is the soccer field, instruments, a band stand and massive speakers are set up. you giggle at the sight of taehyun shoving kai playfully as they adjust their ear pieces. soobin and yeonjun are messing around too; you giggle once more when yeonjun grabs onto soobin's nose and wriggles it around aggressively.

spotting a mop of dark brown hair tuning a guitar, you gulp and your heart stops. his back is turned towards you, but before you could get a better look yeonjun's voice rings through the speakers, “seoul national university! are you ready?!”

hundreds of voices, including yours, scream a sea of cheers in response. you find yourself wondering what they will play today; not that it would matter much. semester stress and the fear of possibly flunked tests have long been tossed out the window. a completely different kind of anxiousness had now taken over you as you watch the boys take to their positions.

beomgyu's fingers strike the chords of his guitar, sending shockwaves which seem to rattle the ground and the stadium resting upon it, and the crowd falls silent. then come their voices in magnificent unison, a small group of five, echoing off the space existing between them and the crowd before kai and yeonjun come with the first verse.

they're singing "dear sputnik", a song kai had written for your show with the same name. a song about feeling lost and in despair before finding that one person, your sputnik, with whom to share the journey of the vast unknown galaxy. you hoped to be that presence for people who felt like they had no one, for you knew all to well what it was like to feel utterly alone – even when you weren't.

a smile curls onto your lips as you join the crowd in standing, pulling suhyeon and haewon up with you as you did. “i can't believe we got this lucky!” you attempt to speak over the screams and chorus, haewon offers an enamored grin and ruffles your hair before turning back to the performance.

suhyeon looks to you, then back down to the field where the boys putting on a powerhouse performance; charisma shining in their every fibre. “you're right...” they say, their eyes fixed on taehyun.

you feel your heart race once more as they get closer to the bridge, knowing beomgyu's about to take centre-stage. you take in the way he moves around the stage, a breath-taking smile spread across his face flashing his pearly-white teeth to the audience. the ends of his long, nearly-black hair are damp as they fall across his face, and even as they fall into his eyes, he looks ethereal.

he steps up to the microphone with taehyun, flicking his hair to the back, skin glistening and glittering under the noon light, his eyes glazed over with adrenaline search the bleachers. just before he sings, his eyes lock with yours and your breath hitches. your fingers clench into your shirt as time seems to slow down before stopping completely.

“in a crumbling world,

i found a star called you,

i need you, my love ”

his eyes left yours not once as his voice, like bittersweet honey straight from the dipper, trickles through every inch of your being and fills you up with each and every raw emotion it carries. haewon and suhyeon place a hand on either of your shoulders and your're pulled out of your reverie.

“are you breathing?” haewon asks with an amused look in their eyes, though you can just about hear them over the chorusing stadium. when you only blink in response, haewon chuckles before scrunching up their nose, “you're so in love with him it's gross.”

you glance back to the boys as they finish off their performance, and beomgyu's fingers dance across his guitar a final time before they all run down to taehyun in the centre and fall into a bow. had you imagined it?

the crowd roars for the last time, high pitched screams coming at the boys from every direction. as they pick themselves up, beomgyu's eyes find you in the crowd again. a warmth spreads in his chest and he finds himself smiling softly, completely unbeknownst to you, who is excitedly recounting the performance with your friends, deep shades of red tinting the apples of your cheeks.

an arm wraps around beomgyu's shoulders before loosely draping across them. he finds taehyun throwing him a thumbs up while the others jog toward them excitedly.

“you think it's a mission accomplished?” yeonjun asks, catching his breath before following beomgyu's gaze to the group of friends still sitting in the bleachers.

beomgyu grins, nodding his head fervently, “they're smiling.”

a/n: hi idk wtf this is i just thought of this idea after practice today lol 😀

there was a knock at your front door the moment the power went out in your house- you knew who it was, but you didn’t want to see them. in fact, you wished they had given you more time. you sat ridged on the couch in your living room, praying silently in the dark that they would go away- that they would forget you. outside your window a streak of lightning made its way from the dark sky down to the earth and a clash of thunder shook you to the core. you waited patiently for a few minutes before another knock, this time more prominent, came from your front door. “i know you’re there y/n,” a voice sounded from outside. “let me in.”

you screwed your eyes shut. let me in, let me in, let me in. that was all you had done since you had met choi yeonjun that one fateful night at the park and now look where it had gotten you. two years ago you had gotten up late one night to go take a walk, your insomnia pushing you to keep your eyes open. at the park, sitting on a wooden bench, was yeonjun. you didn’t know him at the time- until something inside you told you to sit down next to him and get to know the mysterious man who sat alert on a park bench at 1am holding a small silver box in his pale, shaking hands.

“let me in y/n!” yeonjun knocked on the door slightly furiously this time. “i know what you're doing! let me in, do you understand!? let me in dammit!”

two years ago yeonjun had handed you the small silver box, two years ago yeonjun had told you never to open the box no matter what you went through and that he had to ‘sort something out’, two years ago he told you he would soon return to you to pick up his box, two years ago before he left you with the silver box he told you he was sorry but you didn’t know why, two years ago you could care less about what was in the silver box but two years later you were doing everything you could to open it and your inability to pry it open had driven you mad. as of now, the little silver box sat in front of you, glistening when lightning lit up the sky. next to it lay all the materials and instruments you had previously used to try to open the box’s latch and now your hands gripped the corners of the coffee table that the box sat on as you thought of another way you could get to open the box before yeonjun got inside.

open me…. again the wispy voice you had heard coming from the box ever since last year floated around the room. you snatched the silver item suddenly and brought it up to your eye level. you weren’t sure what had driven you so intensely to make it your goal to open the box but all you knew was that you had to. you had to.

“OPEN UP THE GODDAMN DOOR!” by now you could hear yeonjun slamming his weight into your front door. “DON’T DO IT- I SWEAR TO GOD Y/N- PLEASE DON’T, YOU’LL GET US BOTH KILLED!” his panicked voice boomed on the other end of the wooden slab that kept the both of you separated as you grabbed a metal baseball bat from your closet that you had bought for one of your sporty friends as a birthday gift and swung at the box that you had placed on the floor.

minutes had gone by before you had hit the corner of the box and heard the latch pop open softly. you had opened it. after months of beating at the box, you had opened it. you threw the bat to the side and scrambled to see what had been so tightly sealed away from you. inside the box was a small slip of paper with something wrapped inside what looked like a silk cloth under it. you opened the slip of paper quickly and scribbled inside were the words:

you set the paper aside and grabbed the cloth wrapped item just as yeonjun busted through your door. you pulled away the cloth right before yeonjun lunged at you, attempting to snatch the item from your hand. the cloth fell away to reveal an eye made of colored glass, green and blue specks forming the iris and a pupil so dark you felt that if you looked at it for too long you would get lost inside it’s darkness. yeonjun snatched your wrist with the colored eye, his nails digging into your skin. he quickly took the cloth and threw it over the eye. “now look what you done!” he said through gritted teeth. “i should never have trusted you! i should never have picked you- now they know where i am!”

you watched with wide eyes as he shoved the covered eye back into the box and closed it. his hands shook like they did that night at the park as he pocketed the box. his breathing became irregular as he stood up, his entire body rattling like wind chimes on a windy day. “i’m… i’m going to die.” he said quietly. “i’m going to die all because i choose you.” he began to pull at his red hair out of… stress? fear? you watched him, your mouth agape as he quickly lost his mind in front of you. he began to chuckle, softly at first, then louder, and louder until it turned into a crazed cackle. “i’m going to die!” he threw his head up towards the ceiling and laughed. “i’m going to die.” he brought his head back down and smiled at you, but the smile didn’t reach his eyes. “maybe it was time right? maybe i’ll finally be free. maybe i was right to choose you!” he grabbed your shoulders and shook you slightly. “maybe it’s time for someone to suffer like i did… but you better run y/n!” he shook you harder and adrenaline shot through your body out of horror as the man who you had met late at night in the park two years ago began to cry as he laughed. “run before it finds us! run! run! take the eye and don’t look back. TAKE THE EY—”

you weren’t sure what had grabbed yeonjun as he was telling you to run. you weren’t sure how to react as he was ripped away from you, his hands which had gripped the sleeves of your shirt so tightly, ripping the fabric as he was pulled away. but he was pulled away within an instant and taken outside your front door which then slammed behind him before his screams began. you stood in your living room listening in horror before picking up the silver box that had dropped from his coat pocket. you opened up the box again and examined the inside quickly, not touching the eye or the fabric. inscribed inside the cover of the box was a single sentence:

the beginning of the end.

once he does get your attention proceeds to read the letters aloud to you and adds his own commentary

he’ll read something like “Every time you smile at me I get butterflies in my stomach” and then pause and stare of into the distance and with a sigh say something along the lines of “I remember when you used to smile at me 😔”

and you’re like ??? because the only thing you do is smile at him.

he’s acting like you weren’t just showering him with all your affection 20 minutes ago. You literally ambushed him in the kitchen, wrapping your arms around him while he was cooking, and he was like “oh ? does my baby miss me 😏” and now he is halfway on the floor reminiscing about the days you use to smile at him.

Hates them and he’s not good at hiding it

pouts a lot. yknow small frown on his face with his bottom lip slightly jutting out, eyebrows furrowed, nose scrunched just a little bit

but he’s not mad at you, he’s mad at the world for putting him through this </3

despite his very obvious and apparent hate for the letters he still reads them for some reason

literally has a frown on his face plus and looks a little bit disgusted. if he comes across a certain a line or sentence that he finds particular upsetting he will scoff and maybe mumble to himself

will not put the letters down even with the fact that every word seems to bother him. you try to snatch it away from him but his iron grip on it wouldn’t allow you

he quotes them too 😭😭

you’ll be eating outside a bakery on a date for example and he’ll say something like “you’re secret admirer mentioned something about one day being able to take you to bakery” 😐

and at first you’re confused cuz you don’t read the letters, once you manage to snatch them out of his hands you toss them so you don’t know what he’s talking about immediately, but when you do figure it out you’re like ??? because why is he storing that information.

he gets over it really quickly though. All it takes is for you to give him a kiss on his cheek and for you to say “I only want to go to the bakery with you tho 🥺” and he’s like 😐 —> 🥰

but he gets in his moods again, kinda a wash rinse and repeat type beat, so you start to get rid of the letters immediately so he has no chance of seeing them because you can’t handle him quoting them anymore <3

more than anything he’s confused.

he’s literally attached to you 24/7. like he’s always holding your hand, or hugging you and kissing your cheek, like if the two of you are out together (which you usually are) they’re is a 99% chance that there is some form of pda.

so the fact that you get a lot of love letters is puzzling to him. not that he thinks you getting them is weird, you’re a great person so it’s natural people would have a crush on you, but it’s obvious that the two of you are in a relationship 😕

one time someone came up to the two of you when he was draped over you and handed you a letter while saying “my friend wanting me to give this to you.”

and he was like 😧…🤨 can your friend read the room??? Internally of course on the outside he’s a blank slate because he doesn’t want to let on that he’s bothered by them.

beomgyu is a very sentimental so he’d tell you that you should read them because someone poured their time and feeling into them and that it wouldn’t be right to just throw them out

“Don’t consider them too much tho” 🥲

you only read them because he said that you should otherwise they’d be tossed by now <3

Usually you read them on the couch with him and he plays with your hair or fingers.

sometimes you’ll be reading a longer letter and he’ll be like “you’ve been reading that for a while” 😐

“you told me to read them though”

give him kisses in between reading them it will console him, plus he loves recieving kisses from you so win win

His initial reaction to them is essentially lol why

and you’re not sure if he means why are you getting letters in general or why are people sending you letters when you’re in a relationship

eventually clarifies that it’s the latter

genuinely doesn’t understand why people would spend all that effort writing someone a love letter when said person is already dating someone

They’re shooting their shot but it’s an automatic miss. stepping up to the plate just to strike out. like if you are going to write a letter at least make sure the person you’re writing it to is single so you have a chance

unless they’re expecting you to leave him for them and in that case why would they ever think that 😐

he reads them but not because he’s all that curious in what they have to say but to make sure there isn’t anything weird going on

he wants to make sure people aren’t following you around and watching your every move

and maybe he is a little curious

But if there is ever something weird going on, he will not hesitate to confront the writer. even if the letter is anonymous he’ll probably figure out eventually, he’s smart like that

you know when you don’t want to smile like you don’t have it in you to smile, the energy isn’t there, but you feel like you have to smile so you force it and end up looking like this 🙂

tries so hard to play it off but just ends up laughing awkwardly

“hahaha is that a letter hahaha that’s so funny hahaha it’s not like you have a boyfriend or anything haha those silly gooses” 🙂

someone save him

doesn’t read the letters because why would he put himself through that

stares at them tho, literally locks eyes with their non existence ones, lowkey has beef with the inanimate object

“is that another letter I see…how fun”

thinks he’s doing a good job at hiding his true feelings but it is very obvious, the 🙂 isn’t fooling anyone

when he sees you tossing one he tries to hide the amount of joy gets from the sight

“Oh no,,another one bites the dust,, how unfortunate” he says while he’s literally beaming, his smile going ear to ear

pls he’s so cute !! and now you can’t help but smile because he’s smiling

ends up with you tackling him in a hug and this receives no objections from Kai because that’s the way things should be <3

It had been easy to slip past authorities; they had barely glazed over you five and decided to let you pass after a very brief interview, which went something like this:

“You’re visiting the carousel?”

Nervous shuffling, five teenagers stare at each other before a tall blue-haired boy nods.

“Yes.”

“Alright, whatever. Be careful. Don’t stay out here too late.”

The teenagers scurry through the yellow tape. The detective sees one of them linking hands with the other, both of their knuckles white. He chuckles before returning to his work.

“Ah, children.”
