Ever come across a work of art that sets you back in your own skin? That gives you permission to struggle where you struggle and thrive where you thrive? The Dear Hunter’s Acts have existed now for years, but this year I got around to listening to Acts IV and V. I had always liked the Acts up until this point, but starting with “Waves” in IV, I knew I was in for a treat! The themes introduced, explored and, in some cases, expertly resolved in these albums offered so much clarification and permission to my existence and my own challenges.

This piece is based off of the song “The Fire (Remains)” in Act V, a rumination on violence, the allure of redemption and a poetic evolution of supposed character flaws becoming the very skill needed.

@dustrial-inc I take your point to be more about questioning why theists couldn't just be called "asecularists" than about prefix features of words. The a- supposes that the base word it is appended to is the de facto state of things, drawing up the a- version as abnormal. Perhaps that is not the intent of the existence of the word, but I do believe it to be an affect of it.

Perhaps, to say it differently, as an atheist it would be nice to have a term for one's self that is not positioned against theism, but rather accepts the state of "lacking superstition" as ordinary. It would be like if the only word we had for "dark" was "aluminance". While the two are antithetical, one is not "ordinary" and the other "weird". Secularist might be a word that starts to approach this idea, but since it is more a discussion of opinions about the church and the state, I don't know that it properly wrangles this concept.

Looking up synonyms, perhaps "skeptic" is the best we have.

This may not be what you're saying/exploring at all, however, that was just the most sensible way I could parse it.

The term atheist is kind of silly. You shouldn’t be forced to say the name/be labeled by the thing that doesn’t exist. Especially pertaining to religion.

Let’s Learn A-Frame 0x00000001

Hey guys. I’m not really sure if Tumblr is where to do this, but, alas! Here I am, doing it anyways. My plan is to post periodic, brief-ish posts about A-Frame as I learn more about it so that you all can get up to speed on this with me. So, without further ado:

WHAT THE HELL IS A-FRAME? 

A-Frame is an open-source web framework for building virtual reality experiences. This may sound exciting in it’s own right, but this stuff gets better! Like, much better! This framework is built in Javascript and is HTML DOM focused. Yeah. That means we essentially have HTML for VR.

Hopefully this gets you understanding my excitement! Don’t get me wrong, building VR experiences in Unity is already pretty easy, but this is just another step simpler, both for developers, as well as for dissemination of VR experiences! So, let’s get to it, yeah?

HELLO WORLD

As I said before, this is just HTML for VR, so, the only requirement in order to get started is a <script> tag linking to the A-Frame library and an <a-scene> element that will store your Virtual Magnificence! That means with just this

you will be ready to go. Of course, you won’t see anything in this setting and, well, that’s no fun. That’s why in my next post I’ll go over the A-Frame primitives, as well as getting started with an environment so that you can easily test your VR experiences.
