I'm serious, I can't even convey in words to someone who isn't already a fan of The Dear Hunter just how fucking amazing this song is, like just look at this:
This list from the TDH subreddit, which isn't even technically complete, attempts to outline every reprisal throughout all five albums, just open it up and see how many different songs have a reprisal in The March.
That isn't even to mention the fact that throughout all five of the Acts there are lyrics foreshadowing this very climax and tragic end that the song (and Act V as a whole) represents, which is completely transformative to the experience on repeat listens.
If you have a few hours, seriously listen through Acts I-V front to back and really pay attention to the composition and lyrics, then when The March comes on, just experience the complete musical catharsis and chills that I get every time I hear it without fail. It's worth it.
Was listening to The Acts albums by The Dear Hunter and decided to try my hand at drawing the pimp/priest, who has some absolutely slamming villain songs
if i had a nickel for every sad angry fictional man who is the star of a concept album (from a band that mostly does concept albums) about some nondescript fictional war that has intense world war 1 theming despite not technically being world war 1 in canon, who’s maybe lover dies, and that makes them go on a rampage that involves destruction of property using a flammable substance, i would have two nickels which isn’t much but it’s weird it happened twice
But not I, I won't ask/Or forget my place amongst the grass/The leaves and the trees remember me/And in my naivety, they might be seen/The pail has leaks, and even if/You put all your water into it/You'll end up with nothing left to drink/The Well has gone dry, and I with it
"The song is about a young boy realizing for the first time that his mother won't live forever and that he'll have to confront the real world someday. Knowing what happens in the following Acts it hurts *that much more*. Instrumentally it's so soft but so friggin intense and I just. This is audible gold to me okay."
Becoming the Lastnames (Will Wood)
But now we're kissing before brushing, smile with our whole faces/If you want a hypen last name I guess I don't mind the cadence
"Queer man singing about a slightly reluctant desire for a traditional marriage makes me emo as an aromantic person who would never get married for romance and does Not do traditional relationships but sometimes gets in my feelings that I'll never do things the "normal" way. I literally cannot hear those opening notes without crying"
