What's your favorite Irish meal? The Brunswick Restaurant (located at 905 Front St, now 1st Ave) featured a special St. Patrick's Day banquet menu on March 17, 1889. The menu for the feast even included the lyrics of the Irish rebel song "God Save Ireland" written by TD Sullivan.

Food in Seattle has had both a local and global impact. In the early 1900s, Angelo Merlino, an Italian immigrant, began importing olive oil from his homeland, and later opened a store in 1900. The olive oil bore the name of Leonetta Merlino, the grandmother of celebrity chef Mario Batali. And it all started with olive oil...

Today is International Women’s Day and we're honoring Seattle's Bertha Knight Landes, who was the first woman to be elected mayor of a major American city. She improved law enforcement, expanded the parks department programs, and improved the management of the City Light department during her single term from 1926-1928. After her term, she continued to serve the public through many civic organizations.

On March 3, 1919—almost 100 years ago—local Seattle pilot and visionary, Eddie Hubbard, completed the first international flight delivering mail from Vancouver, British Columbia to Seattle. This forever changed the history of Puget Sound, and launched it to be the hub of innovation that it is known to be today. The Boeing B-1 plane he flew now hangs in MOHAI's Grand Atrium

One of our favorite artifacts in the Edible City exhibit is this jacket made of cowhide and discarded @dicksdrivein burger wrappers. Artist Dorothy Rissman uses discarded media—trash— to help viewers, "discover beautiful objects that were the discards of others." #edibleMOHAI⠀ ⠀ Loan from Jim Spady⠀ ⠀ #burger #tastyburger #dicksdrivein #restaurant #seattlerestaurants #eatlocal #seattle #local #cheeseburger #art #trashart #mohai (at Museum of History and Industry (MOHAI))

February 19 marks the 75th anniversary of Executive Order 9066, which initiated the process of forcing West Coast Japanese Americans to 10 inland concentration camps during World War II. On this anniversary, it is important to remember that 120,000 people, like Fumiko Hayashida and her daughter Natalie, were targeted because of their ethnicity or their country of birth. MOHAI stands as a place where we share this history and the stories of those affected and, more than ever, reflect on how we can learn from our past to better inform the present and future for all. ⠀ ⠀ MOHAI, Seattle Post-Intelligencer Collection⠀ ⠀ #history #ushistory #japanesehistory #seattle #seattlehistory #tbt #learnfromthepast #mohai
