I'm rewatching the X-Factor season 7 rn and look at this screenshot I got from the Judges' Houses round 🥰

(This is like,,,, maybe the 3rd time we've seen these guys on camera as a group cause "One Direction" was formed in like the final 2 minutes of the episode before hand)

I want to make a tier list of all of The War of the Worlds adaptations I can find but base the tier list off of 1) if the HMS Thunderchild is included and 2) How much I like the Artilleryman in the adaptations since they're lowkey my two favourite things in that franchise.

Okay so, this is Part 1 I guess? (This is entirely based on the appearances of the HMS Thunder Child and The Artilleryman and nothing else)

S Tier:

Jeff Wayne's The War of the Worlds: The New Generation - this is my favourite version of the musical. The Thunder Child song is so unbelievably good and I also like this version of the Artilleryman a lot, I like his voice better in this version and I love the Brave New World song.

The War of the Worlds: The Immersive Experience - THIS IS TOP TIER!!!! You get to meet the Artilleryman multiple times throughout the Experience, he guides you from the site of the "meteor" to George Herbert's (Narrator) house and you meet him again in the trenches before meeting him again underground. Getting to actually be face to face is unmatched. The Thunder Child scene is a religious experience honestly, going on the boat and putting on the VR headset to then be virtually taken down the Thames, watching as Fighting Machines destroy London on either side. Then getting to "see" the Thunder Child as the Thunder Child song plays from The New Generation. I fell in love with the franchise all over again.

A Tier:

Jeff Wayne's The War of the Worlds - This just missed out on the "S Tier" purely because I like the music and voices a little bit less than I like The New Generation.

B Tier:

H. G. Wells - The War of the Worlds - I put the original novel here as like a middle ground. While it is the introduction for these elements, I prefer the musicals over the books as I feel that hearing the Artilleryman's voice does a lot to help picture him as frightened and vulnerable on the first meeting and also helps portray his inane ramblings in Brave New World. Also I feel like the Thunder Child is more prominent and has more undivided attention in the musicals.

D Tier:

War of the Worlds; L.A. Theatre Works (1994) - This is not great in my opinion. This radio drama did not mention the Thunder Child at all from what I recall, the presenter talks very fast so it is possible that I just missed it if the Thunder Child was mentioned offhandedly. The Narrator in this is also an astronomer instead of the normal Narrator. There is no mention of the Artilleryman until the last 20 minutes or so of the radio drama and you only hear him as being rather unstable and hostile, rather than how in other medias we get to see the Artilleryman before that before he lost his mind completely to the situation, so the audience usually has more sympathy. This only missed "F Tier" because the Artilleryman is included and he gets a good amount of air time while he's speaking.

okay i've got an idea for a fanfic,,, and i'll probably flesh it out later, but i've got this one scene in my head and i didn't want to forget it

(this is inspired by ClandestineCalico's soulmate fanfic on AO3, btw, so shout out to them!)

The night outside was peaceful but the images playing within Joseph's head were anything but. As he tossed and turned in the throws of his nightmare, his dear soulmate, woken by his uneasiness, reached over and shook his shoulder.

Sesostris moved away just in time for his lover to shoot up, startled out of his dream.

"Are you alright love?" he asked Joseph. Joseph wasn't even sure how to answer that question, his dream... it was one not even he could make any sense of at the moment.

"I think so," Joseph replied, "just a bad dream." he finished while looking over at the Pharaoh, showing him a lopsided grin.

Sesostris was barely able to hold back a grimace, that was never a good thing. They we're currently quickly hurdling towards the end of their 7th year of plentiful crops, and while Sesostris trusted the plans which Joseph had meticulously placed for the 7 rough years ahead, it could be catastrophic to have another disaster overlapping that... one they were less prepared for... one they couldn't face together.

Joseph decided to elaborate on his dream further, "I dreamed of my brothers, of their cruel acts and jealously... the time i was sold," Joseph looked down at his hands, picking at his finger nails absentmindedly, "you know that i was able to see colour before, that i could see in colour in my dreams... but what i don't understand is why this dream was in black and white?" Joseph looked back up at his lover after giving his brief run down.

Sesostris was once again floored by a great sense of sadness, all this power as the Pharaoh and he still can't take away his soulmates suffering. In all honesty, he was clueless when it came to interpreting dreams... his inability is what brought him to his soulmate after all.

The Pharaoh leaned over to his second in command, his Prince, his Heart, and gave him a kiss on the forehead. "Why don't we got back to sleep just now, love? In the morning, we can look into this with a fresh outlook, you can set up your scrying cup as well and see if it gives you any insight?"

Joseph nodded sleepily and moved to lie back down, not before leaning over and giving his love a final peck on the lips, "okay, I love you, Seso, Good night".

(I'd also like to note that in both the Book of Genesis (Bible) and Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, the Pharaoh remains unnamed, but I didn't just want to call him "The Pharaoh" so i did some digging and apparently historians have found that "Pharaoh Sesostris I" was likely the Pharaoh at the time that the story was set, even if it is fictional, so i decided to use his name)

honestly i'd probably do it myself if i could pull everything together. just like map everything out, make a power point, each slide is a different event so i can sort it in chronological order. sit with my laptop and a tiny mic and go to town.
