So inspired by @wuvsbian I wanted to make my own pride flag for male attracted men that’s not that Achillian crap.

I included the white stripe for non binary men and the more purple blues for effeminate/gender non conforming men

and I propose an association with Leonardo da Vinci or “vincian” but im open to suggestions.

Just like Mesperyian, Valknjöggr, and dark magician Bedwyr, I just found yet another piece of Internet-created fakelore about mythology.

Thanks to the male Gorgon in the comic Once & Future, which was inspired by the Bath Gorgon, seemingly the only existing artistic representation of a male gorgon (or so it is commonly interpreted), I decided to look up to see if maybe some ancient sources, probably obscure ones, may have mentioned or referenced male gorgons. After all, Greek mythology is thousands of years old and was in constant evolution throughout its existence, as can be seen with the different depictions of the gorgons as born monstrous, born beautiful but cursed by Athena, or even a whole nation instead of just three sisters, so anything is possible. There's even mentions of female centaurs, it's not far-fetched to think one seemingly one gender fantastic races may have exceptions when their myths got retold by different authors.

So I googled it, and surprisingly there were hits. Except it was a single sentence with no sourcing:

There is only one male Gorgon who's name is Nanas, the guard of Zeus. 

And it's the exact same sentence with slightly different wording on multiple sites. Immediately it rang alarm bells, because it sounds like it comes from one specific place and these various sites just copy each other verbatim. So I do a little digging, and one of the oldest mentions is from Monstropedia, on the page on Gorgon which was last edited in April 2007. And the page is indicated to have content from Wikipedia, so that's where I go next.

And what do you know, looking at the article's history yields the answer:

Someone added the line about Nanas in May 2009, where it would stay for months until November of that year, when someone rightly points out in the Talk page that this is an unsourced claim. But the harm was apparently already done, as there are now numerous sites out there claiming to be sources of information about mythology having left that one claim sneak in and stay unchallenged.

Stay safe out there, misinformation is alive and well. Part of what drove me to post this is seeing a Tumblr post out in the wild where the user casually just mentions Nanas as if it's a fact.
