Was recently commissioned to paint this Gutz Space Marine. A very interesting mashup if I do say so myself! The above shows a freshly primed and 3D printed mini. That's how it started.
Then, slowly through this weekend, this is how it ended:

As someone who is relatively new to NMM painting and heat effects this was a VERY fun miniature to work on. And in all honesty this is my first space marine model!
I think I did well. My techniques for NMM can be better but this experience taught me a lot about what not to do. I had to go back a couple times and paint over things because I didn't layer properly. I also recognize that I need to practice with lighting more, instead of relying on washes.
I'm happy with my heat effects! Though I think I went overboard on the cape 馃槄 however, I do not want to try and fix it because I'm afraid me messing with it further will make it look even less realistic.
Overall this was a great exercise and the customer is happy! That's all I can ask for. I'm especially happy with the sword emblem, it's my favorite part of the miniature 鈽猴笍

If you could pick a character class and backstory for her, what would you pick? 馃

Did this wonderful print & paint request for a customer recently! Her name is Jynx. The very last photo in this set is the reference that was sent to me from Hero Forge. I truly think I nailed it!

The customer made this model on Hero Forge and sent it to me to use our in-house printing and painting services. This has been one of the most detailed Hero Forge models I've worked on to date and has also been one of the most fun.
If you could plan a backstory for this character what class would you pick and what would be their background?

Happy to say I'm now back with an update on the finished product for this mini! I hope you enjoy it 馃榿

Mycelial Queen from @moradinsforge on Etsy. This piece is actually listed as, Melamora the Lady of Change and Pestilence. Either way, I think it makes for an epic boss miniature, and I had a lot of fun painting this piece.

Elf wizard on Battle Prawn! Battle Prawn! Another fun resin piece from our friends at @moradinsforge on Etsy. This piece fits in nicely with the D&D world that I'm assisting with; most of the seas have been destroyed by a chaotic energy and the sea creatures now live in the sky or have adapted to life in the great deserts that were once the oceans. A battle prawn fits in perfectly into this world.

Here are the first and last 28mm(ish) models I painted, which also happen to be my only two dwarfs. The left is an old Citadel sculpt with a middlehammer shield while the right one is a new sculpt by Old Realm Forge.

I'm normally very bad about progress photos but I was aware enough with painting this mini to stop and take some photos along the way.
I always seem to hit these points very early on with each mini I paint where I look at it and say to myself, "This is terrible, why is someone paying me to paint a mini for them" and sink into this mindset of imposter syndrome. But like always I push through and find that the minis I think start off very badly are always some of my favorites by the time I'm done with them. Sometimes it's hard to remind myself that even though I consider myself an amateur, that doesn't mean there isn't a place for me in the world of miniature painting, and there's many people out there who love my work. I should be better about giving myself grace and appreciate that I've grown a lot in my painting skills and art is an ongoing practice regardless of what medium you're using to express yourself.
It also has been a revelation that I find monster minis to be my favorite things to paint. I get a lot of requests from customers to paint their characters which is nice and fun in its own right. However, I find I'm never quite as interested in them and I am 'in love' with the final results. People love their minis and give me praise but it's never the same feeling of pride that I get when I paint a really good monster mini. This wendigo is a miniature I'm very proud of and will probably fill a spot in my art portfolio that I use to show people my work for many moons to come.
Anyway, if you've made it this far in my ramblings, thank you for reading and taking a moment to share in my appreciation of this hobby and where I'm currently at in my journey.

The Forest King, a crowd favorite of our store. This particular photo shows the model primed with a matte grey primer.
This miniature is perfect for representing mounts or wild shapes, or even as a majestic forest guardian encounter for your adventuring party.
Available for printing at our shop in three resin colors: traditional grey, clear, and translucent green.
For an additional surcharge we will also prime the miniature for you so it is immediately ready for painting as soon as you receive it! Primer colors: white, grey, and black.
Forest King model is sculpted by Artisan Guild, and was released in the January 2020 Deepwood Alfar collection.

I have some ready to ship minis currently available in my store!
Yatl the Jadeshell Beauty comes hand painted already.
Tokun the Travelling Tortle Merchant and Fraia the Dwarven Beauty Pin-Up are basic printed miniatures in grey resin. I can prime them in white, grey, or black before shipping if you'd like. Or you can commission me to hand paint them and bring your vision to life.
I have three more paint requests coming soon! Stay tuned for updates. 馃槉

Once upon a time I posted about some Dead By Daylight hooks that I was painting. Well I finally finished them!
These were a challenge to my surprise. I naively thought they would be easy and I'd finish them in a day because "they're only terrain pieces". I was so so wrong. Initially I tried to make them all different but ended up not liking the results. So instead I started over and re-painted the like models the same and added blood to one of them for a before/after situation with a survivor getting hooked by a killer. I'm pretty satisfied with the results!
I did discover that my blood effects paint was completely dried up in the bottle so I had to improvise with some dragon red and pure red paint. Looks like I have an excuse to order more paints and also work on my blood techniques in case I ever need blood but don't have effects paint again. I've been too spoiled. 馃榿
