this is just my opinion but i think any good media needs obsession behind it. it needs passion, the kind of passion that's no longer "gentle scented candle" and is now "oh shit the house caught on fire". it needs a creator that's biting the floorboards and gnawing the story off their skin. creators are supposed to be wild animals. they are supposed to want to tell a story with the ferocity of eating a good stone fruit while standing over the sink. the same protective, strange instinct as being 7 and making mud potions in pink teacups: you gotta get weird with it.

good media needs unhinged, googling-at-midnight kind of energy. it needs "what kind of seams are invented on this planet" energy and "im just gonna trust the audience to roll with me about this" energy. it needs one person (at least) screaming into the void with so much drive and energy that it forces the story to be real.

sometimes people are baffled when fanfic has some stunning jaw-dropping tattoo-it-on-you lines. and i'm like - well, i don't go here, but that makes sense to me. of fucking course people who have this amount of passion are going to create something good. they moved from a place of genuine love and enjoyment.

so yeah, duh! saturday cartoons have banger lines. random street art is sometimes the most precious heart-wrenching shit you've ever seen. someone singing on tiktok ends up creating your next favorite song. youtubers are giving us 5 hours of carefully researched content. all of this is the impossible equation to latestage capitalism. like, you can't force something to be good. AI cannot make it good. no amount of focus-group testing or market research. what makes a story worth listening to is that someone cares so much about telling it - through dance, art, music, whatever it takes - that they are just a little unhinged about it.

one time my friend told me he stayed up all night researching how many ways there are to peel an orange. he wrote me a poem that made me cry on public transportation. the love came through it like pith, you know? the words all came apart in my hands. it tasted like breakfast.

I gave up on writing the next chapter so now I'm writing the next chapters instead. Loki is once again stealing the show.

Sam shook his head fondly, dropping the note back onto the table and picking up the glass of water, gulping down half of it. He was parched.

That's when he heard it.

Tap. Tap.

He stilled, listening in case he was just hearing things, but then it came again:

Tap. Tap.

He frowned, turning towards the window. Red eyes blinked at him.

Sam blinked back.

Loki released a forlorn-sounding croak, before tapping insistently on the glass again, something silver and colourful clutched between his beak. Sam sighed, grabbing his hoodie off the bed and slipping it on over his head, climbing out of bed. His feet were slightly unsteady, muscle sore and stiff from his rather brutal shifting over the past week, but he wasn't dizzy, which was always a plus. From the window, Loki kept tapping at the glass with his beak, the impatient bird flapping his white wings.

"I'm coming! I'm coming!" Sam muttered, letting the hoodie fall over his bare torso. His feet patted across the carpet. "Give me a second would you?"

He made his way to the window, struggling with the latch for a second before managing to open it. The raven hopped backwards as it swung wide, before strutting forward and hopping onto the now open frame. Then he spread his wings wide, gliding into the room. He landed effortlessly on the foot of the bed frame, hopping happily along the wood with a flap of his wings. Sam closed the window behind him, wincing at the rush of autumn chill crawling in from inside. When he turned around, Loki was looking at him, that silver thing still clutched in his beak, glinting in the sunlight. It didn't take Sam long to realise what it was.

He grinned. "Steal that, did you?"

The raven huffed, preening, clearly proud of his accomplishment.

"You do realise I'm now an accomplice, hiding your ass," Sam said, walking back towards the bird. Loki showed no signs of remorse, and Sam rolled his eyes, gently taking the thing from his beak. Loki relinquished it without protest.

It was an oil paint tube, clearly well used.

Without a word, Sam opened a drawer in the beside table, putting it safely away with the other colourfully packaged paints. Shutting it closed, he turned and brushed his fingers across Loki's head, smoothing down the white feathers. The bird chittered softly, content at the action, and clearly eager for the attention.

"Klaus is going to have you stuffed," he added, really not mad at all.

Loki made a cooing noise, eyes closed, sinking blissfully under Sam's touch.

I Am Dragon (2015) + letterboxd reviews

Ooo! I would KILL to read a Klaroline AU on I Am Dragon. It has the three things I love, Caroline Forbes, Klaus Mikaelson and Dragons! Just out of curiosity, would you have actual dragons in the story, or just fallow the plot using Klaus’s vampirism and werewolf side instead of dragons? Would the other Originals make an appearance? I absolutely LOVE TBBW, but I still hope you write this soon.

It would literally be the plot of I am Dragon. I've got a chapter outline somewhere that I did for it, I think. I hadn't really thought about Klaus' siblings tho; it'd probably be an au without them in it. If I did include them, they'd either also be dragons OR to follow the film's lore, Esther would've been kidnapped by Klaus' Dad, thereby creating Klaus in her sacrifice, concluding with Mikael making it to the island to rescue her only to arrive and find her dead, slaying Ansel for the slight. Or possibly a secret third take, where the whole kidnapping thing was a misunderstanding and Klaus' dad saved her from Mikael, and Mikael slayed both Esther and Ansel for it. And the siblings believe Klaus is as evil as the dragon that killed their mother, when in reality it was Mikael that killed their mother. Who knows.

I know you write your fanfics in google docs, so just a heads up: Google hast started using AI to scrape through peoples docs and straight up deleting entire pages of peoples writing. Oh, I moved off google docs a few months ago when I heard about the AI scraping. I've been using Ellipsus since then, so all my new chapters are on there. I still need to back up everything, but like, it's not urgent, cause all the important stuff in my docs is already posted on ao3. I plan on backing up everything properly when I finish this damn rewrite. But thank you!
