struggling with this and idk if its been asked befor4 but what music do u think mello and matt are into? i could probably gauge genres but specific artists are evading me

i'm answering this in a way that's probably way dated for most people right now because m2 were born in 1989-1990 and died in 2010, and also it would be much more of an anthropological answer than a specific one based on where they were growing up.

always saw mello as being into classical music (wagner, tchaikovsky) as a studying tool and a focus tool. i think in his youth too - because he came to age when he was in the uk - he was into 70s rock, post-punk, synthwave, especially english bands. big into david bowie, roxy music, t rex. pet shop boys, new order, depeche mode, the smiths. i could see him enjoying or briefly dipping into industrial metal as well like rammstein.

matt is the classic pop-punk and nu metal imo, blink-182, green day, linkin park, limp bizkit. and ironic bands like ween, bloodhound gang, weezer. and the classic butt-rock-lite stuff like red hot chili peppers and sublime. definitely was big into eminem as well. i personally think his age makes him slightly too old to be into emo, but i see him being sort of listening to everything, and being into anything that pops up. also obviously esp in the late 2000's around the time of his death he was probably listening to vocaloid and electronic japanese anime or rhythm game songs.

i think based on where, when and how they grew up (in my personal headcanon) that would make most sense.

I’m confused was 2020 really 10 years after the dn timeskip or is there something I’m missing?

evidence is set in 2016, i would be writing it for 2026. its supposed to take place 6 years after the events of crush

and dn was set in 2009-2010 so yes when i wrote it in 2019 it was 10 years after

On Mello’s apology

I don’t usually post metas up, but lately, I’ve been thinking about the weight of Mello’s apology to Matt. We know that “sorry” is pretty universal, and it means remorse over something someone has done. But apologies in Japanese are slightly different to them in English, and I felt that some of these nuances would have been lost in the English translation. In the West, “sorry” is far more ambiguous and can be used way more interchangeably from casual to grave. 

I have to note that although I’ve studied Japanese for eight years, I’m in no way fluent, so a lot of this is based off of research. I hope someone who does speak Japanese can correct me or offer their own opinions! And I’m really sorry if someone has already talked about this before, I just haven’t seen it around.

hello. you did a great job sound mixing on Crush. did you get to interact with the voice actors or were you just sent their audio after their sessions?

thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it.

yes, I was there for the recording sessions (done virtually). we got to chat with david, drew, and their sound guys - all super kind and fun.

each VA was accompanied by an editor who recorded their respective POVs. I was on as morph’s right hand and we also took our own audio/screen recordings. afterwards, we coordinated with the sound guys to receive audio files and text documents with scene markers.

the between-take convos and adlibs were my favorites. they actually ended up being super important because that’s where we pulled a lot of the breaths, hums, etc. they gave the audio a lot of its substance.

TLDR; it was extremely fun and they’re both such amazing guys to work with!
