Snuggle Time
☁️🐰for anonymous🐰☁️
"Has anyone seen the Vet?"
Warriors' question was met with a chorus of no's. It was nearing dinner time and he hadn't seen the Veteran in several hours. The other hero hadn't gone patrolling, he hadn't gone to get firewood, he wasn't even sorting through his numerous items like he liked to do during downtime. Wars wasn't sure where he could be.
The Captain did another lap around camp, trying to ease his nerves. The Vet was fully capable of taking care of himself and didn't often go off alone, only doing so occasionally to clear his head or recharge from being around eight other people constantly. When he did, he always told at least one person what he was doing; this disappearing act was more in line with something the Champion or Traveler would pull, not the 'prefer-to-be-prepared-for-anything' Veteran.
As he walked, Wars did a silent headcount to make sure no one else had gone missing in the interim. Wild, one, at the cookpot, beginning to prepare food for dinner. Hyrule, two, sitting nearby and chatting with the Champion. Wind and Twilight on one end of camp, the Sailor hanging off the Rancher's arm as he chattered away like a monkey, three and four. Smithy, on the other end of camp, doing weapons maintenance with Time beside him, working on his own armour. Five and six. And finally Sky, leaning against a tree and snoring away, sailcloth wrapped around him like a blanket. Seven. Wars himself made eight.
Despite himself, he found a smile pulling at the corners of his mouth as his patrol brought him closer to the Skyloftian. Sleepy he may be much of the time, he wouldn't be snoring like this is there truly was an issue. The rest of them may tease him about his sleeping habits, but they knew they could rely on the sky knight when the need arose.
Drawing closer, Wars noticed another sound under Sky's snores. Listening closely, it sounded softer, squeakier... and like it was coming from under the sailcloth.
Wars ever-so-gently lifted a corner of the sailcloth to peek underneath. ...Oh. Of course.
A head of soft pink hair pressed against Sky's chest, a pair of thin hands adorned with rings tucked under the chin. A patched purple bunny plush was held close under one arm. Quiet, squeaking snores sounded from the boy cuddled close to the older hero currently serving as a pillow.
Wars couldn't help the fond sigh that escaped him at the sight. The sound caused dark lashes to flutter, brushing against pale cheeks, and he reached down to smooth his thumb over one. "Go back to sleep, honeybun. It's alright, you're safe here."
Legend gave a tiny, snuffly sigh and settled again. Wars replaced the sailcloth with care and stepped away. They could sleep for a bit longer.

Hihi again has th chain ever thought that Lege has disappeared but he's just gone baby bunny little an was all snuggled up with Sky in his sailcloth
Also also what's littol bunny's favourite foods? An does he try chew on Ravi's bunny hood ear thingys
🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
oh absolutely 100% he’s done this. sometimes you just need a good snuggle (and forget to tell anyone else)
he loves loves loves apples and strawberries! anything with honey, too, is an instant favourite <3
he doesn’t like the feeling of fabric in his mouth, actually! he tends to chew on his hands or things made specifically for chewing, like the teething ring wild + sky made for him (it has a wooden bunny charm that he adores) :3

Alone
Legend hates being alone when he's small. The Chain find this out one day.
They had learned very quickly that Legend hated to be alone when he was small. He needed at least one person with him at all times or he would panic. If they all had to go somewhere, telling him where they were going and for how long helped, but any longer than a few minutes alone would send him spiraling.
His brothers suspected it was the same when he was big. He didn't have the same reactions, of course, but the tightness around his eyes and the way his gaze would sweep over them again and again spoke volumes.
~~~~~~~~~
The inciting incident happened one day at an inn in Four's era. Legend, exhausted from the fighting and travel, had regressed with little argument once they'd all settled in their rooms. He'd entertained himself by dumping out his ring box onto the rug and sorting through his dozens of rings; Hyrule had noticed early on the Vet's habit of sorting anything and everything he could get his hands on and suggested it as a possible activity when the rest of them were worried about finding things for Legend to do when he was regressed. It quickly became one of Legend's favourite activies to do when he was small, since he could sort to his heart's content without needing to worry about anything else.
This particular day, a few of them decided to go out and see about restocking their supplies, and maybe find something for dinner, while the rest of the Chain adjusted to being off the road for a night or two. Legend hadn't done more than flick an ear as they left, content with staying where he was with company.
A few minutes later he began to nod off, the exhaustion catching up to him. Sky helped him to put his rings away before getting him settled in one of the beds for a nap. Things were quiet for about an hour before the rest of their group returned with news about a diner. They debated waking Legend up, but one look at his face, heavy with fatigue even in sleep, was enough to convince them to leave him be and bring him something from the diner for when he awoke.
They wouldn't find out until they got back how much they should not have done that.
The eight of them returned to the inn to a worried innkeeper, who informed them that Legend had woken perhaps twenty minutes after they left and come wandering through the inn, growing increasingly more distressed when each room had turned up empty. Finally, the innkeeper had taken pity on him and escorted him back to their room, where he'd wedged himself into as small a space as he could and refused to move.
The Chain shared concerned glances and hurried upstairs. They found Legend where the innkeeper had said, tucked between one of the beds and the adjacent nightstand, sobbing his eyes out. He was so distraught he didn't even notice them entering the room until someone gasped.
Legend looked up, then, and none of them would forget the way his eyes, huge and red-rimmed and filled with tears, flicked between them all in disbelief.
"Hey, hey, kit, lookit me. We're here, yeah? We ain't goin' nowhere." Twilight was quick to cross the room and fall to his knees to pull Legend into his arms, rubbing his back in an attempt to soothe him. Legend stared at them over the rancher's shoulder, looking from one of them to another over and over again. Counting them. Making sure they were all there.
Twilight hefted himself up, Legend in his arms, and sat heavily on the bed. Sky was quick to join them, followed by everyone else. The seven of them squeezed around the rancher and their little brother, trying to get some contact with Legend to let him know they were there. Twilight continued rubbing his back, murmuring quietly all the while.
"See? We're all here. We di'n't leave ya."
Legend hiccuped out a sob, clinging tight. His eyes were still wide and lost, flicking between them all as tears continued to pour down flushed cheeks.
Wild made a thoughtful sound, then, and slipped off the bed to rustle through one of their bags. Legend gasped and reached for him, whining when the Champion didn't come back immediately. He only grew more upset the longer the other hero was out of reach, and Time opened his mouth to say something when Wild made a triumphant noise and hurried back, something purple clutched in his hands.
"Here- sorry, Lege, didn't mean to take so long- I got someone for you!" Clambering back on to the bed, he held out his hands. In them was a familiar purple bunny plush, its patchwork fur worn and faded. Legend's lip wobbled at the sight of it. Wild passed it over gently, smiling as his baby brother snatched it to his chest.
A sobbed "Lola," had Twilight run a soothing hand through his hair.
"We're all here now, see? Ain't no reason to be sad no more. We're here an' we ain't leavin' you again." Teary violet eyes peered up at him and he gave a reassuring smile, sensing the question before it was asked. "Promise."
Legend held his gaze for a moment, then two, before he whispered a wobbly "okay," and tucked himself against the rancher's chest, Lola clutched tight in his arms. Around them, their brothers settled close, silently vowing to never let this sort of thing happen again.
~~~~~~~~~ From then on, the Chain made sure to always have at least one person with Legend whenever they could. The Vet groaned and complained, but they could all see the relief at not being alone hidden behind the grumpy facade.

Most infuriating part of writing is having an idea and thinking oh, this is gonna be so good and wanting to IMMEDIATELY share the vision with other people because it's gonna be good but then you start writing it down and - it is gonna be good. Except. It is also gonna take so, so, so long to finish. And in the meantime. You are the only one with The Vision. Alone. Losing your mind. 😭

Playtime, Naptime
(inspired by this video!)
Childlike laughter filled the air of Ordon Spring. The sky was sunny and the softest of breezes blew through the area, bringing with it the scent of early summer and the sound of birdsong.
In the Spring itself two heroes were enjoying the peaceful atmosphere- one bouncing along the sandy shore while the other lounged in the shade.
Wolfie kept a watchful eye on his charge as he lay in the shade cast by the rocky wall of the Spring. Legend hopped and splashed barefoot in the shallows, letting out happy squeaks and honks as he played. The kit had woken up small and full of energy that morning, and it had yet to go down at all, despite it being nearly two hours after lunchtime.
Twilight had taken him out to help with the goats, and then the two of them went for a romp through the forest for several hours afterwards. When that still didn't tire him out, Twilight had brought him to the Spring to hopefully burn off his remaining energy.
"Woofie! Woofie! Look, look!"
Legend bounced over, eyes bright as he held something in his hands. Thrusting them towards the wolf, he revealed a pile of glittering stones, the water on them sparkling in the sun.
"Aren't they pretty? The' water makes 'em all sparkly an' shiny! Ooh, lookit this one! An' this! Look, it's blue!"
Obligingly, Wolfie lifted his head to peer at the rocks Legend had collected. He gave a boof of agreement. Yes, they were very sparkly.
Legend rambled for a while, occasionally picking up one rock or another to show his caretaker and stimming excitedly all the while. Wolfie snuffled indulgently at the rocks he was shown, but otherwise didn't move. He was tired from running around all day.
Eventually, he simply laid his head down and let the chatter wash over him. Thin fingers poked at him but he huffed and closed his eyes. It was naptime now.
It took a few minutes of prodding and attempts to get him up for Legend to get the hint. The kit flopped over with a groan, and Wolfie squinted open an eye to see him shuffle closer before curling up against his side.
Content now that his kit was calm and quiet, Wolfie laid his head over his charge and held him close. Thin hands wove into his fur as a sleepy sound escaped the boy cuddled against him. Together, they drifted off under the warm summer sun.

Snail Ch. 4: There’s Another Snail Living With Me in My Shell
Silence sits heavy over the camp after Legend’s reveal.
Warriors sits frozen on the other side of the fire, his chest heavy with leaden horror at what he’d learned. He’d known Legend held a strong dislike for soldiers of any kind - the other never made an effort to hide it - but he hadn’t expected… this.
He swallows as something in his stomach twists painfully. Legend had been a child when he’d been thrust into his first quest. He knows, intellectually, factually, that many of his brothers were the same. But actually hearing it? Seeing the proof of it before his very eyes? It sits heavy in his soul, molten and dark.
He has no doubt that Legend had had to defend himself against those soldiers, probably even kill some of them just to keep himself alive.
He doesn’t hold it against his brother. He can’t, not when he knows there was likely no other choice. Also, he refuses to be like those knights, putting the blame on a literal child; even if, as Legend said, it was due to magic. Even if it truly wasn’t their fault, it still happened. They still hurt him.
And then it happened again.
Warriors knows the name Yuga: he’d fought against the man in the War. He had been a pain to fight - using that ridiculously gaudy staff of his to summon paintings that in turn summoned things like lightning or spears, sometimes directly overhead of his targets. If one was particularly unlucky they would have that staff turned on them and caught up in one of those very paintings themselves. Wars has to fight a grimace at the memory.
He supposes the only upside was that Yuga hadn’t cared very much about Cia and Ganon’s plans, instead going along for his own gain; at least until he grew bored of playing along. (Wars still isn’t entirely sure of how turning the entire world into a painting would work.)
…The point is, fighting the man with an army at his back and as an adult (or near enough) was hard enough. He can barely imagine doing so entirely alone, at whatever age Legend was when he fought him.
Wars stares sadly at his (now very little) brother, curled up in Wind’s lap with that dead expression on his face.
He doesn’t know what to do about this. He doesn’t know what he can do; he and Legend weren’t particularly close before, though they’d been on their way to becoming friends. Now, though, all of that progress has probably been wiped away, leaving only fear behind.
The Captain isn’t blind- he can’t afford to be. He’s seen the way the boy avoids him and the Old Man, keeps a wary eye on those he’s deemed the knights of the group.
And Twilight, too, but not for the same reason. Wars has a sinking feeling that has more to do with the more canine side of their Rancher. Though whether Legend remembers from being older or it’s something he can just sense, Warriors isn’t sure.
Eventually Wind gets up and heads over to their bedrolls, Sky following a moment later. The two of them settle down with Legend between them, and everyone else takes that as their cue to get started on their evening routines.
Warriors sets his own bedroll a fair distance away. He hopes the space will (at least subconsciously) help Legend feel a little safer.
He’s nearly finished getting ready for bed when the sound of soft humming drifts through the camp. He glances over to see Sky propped on one arm, threading his fingers through Legend’s hair as he hums. Wars can’t see his face from where he is but the boy does look more relaxed than before.
He’s glad.
Legend deserves a good night’s sleep after all he went through. Wars gets the feeling such a thing was few and far between long before he started this adventure. He would not be surprised if nightmares continue to be a common occurrence for his brother, if not worse than usual. Young minds simply aren’t equipped to handle such horrific things like what he’s experienced.
——————
Despite his efforts, Warriors can’t sleep. Every time he closes his eyes, he’s met with visions of Legend, small and afraid, facing off against the knights he spoke of. Sometimes he’s running, chased by the clanking of armor and whistling of arrows; others, he’s fighting for his life, too-big sword bloody and heavy in too-small hands.
He rolls to his side, desperate for a reprieve from the torments of his imagination. Then rolls to his other side. Then again.
With a sigh, he rolls on to his back to stare up at the sky. Exhausted, he begins idly counting the stars he can see through the branches above.
Dawn is not far off when he finally manages to drift off. Still, it’s anything but restful- more visions of his little brother fill his mind: alone and tiny and haunted, bloody and hunted and scared.
When he wakes, only a few hours have passed. The sky is grey and drizzling, making his already dour mood worse.
Legend hides behind Sky when Warriors goes to check on his wrist, so the Captain resolves to wait until the boy is hopefully not so frightened. Evidence of a similar bad night lingers in pale cheeks and haunted violet eyes. Wars feels his heart break a little more.
Camp is packed quickly, everyone’s already low mood even lower with the rain. Champion hands out premade food for breakfast, any wood too wet to bother trying to light a fire to cook. They set out with raised hoods and low spirits. Sky is quick to scoop Legend up, swaddling him in his sailcloth with one part pulled over his head like a hood. The boy doesn’t even bother fighting it, letting the older hero do as he likes without a whisper of complaint.
Sky catches Wars’ eye and gives a wan smile.
They trudge along for hours, with nary a sign of civilization or monsters the whole while. Warriors can’t tell if he’s grateful for it or not.
At some point Legend wriggles to be let down and spends the next hour or so trodding along next to Sky, clutching tightly at the sailcloth around his shoulders. He stumbles a few times but stubbornly pulls it tighter and carries on.
Warriors finds himself drifting to the back of the group, covertly keeping an eye on his littlest brother. Last night’s nightmares flash before his eyes and he grimaces. He’d like to be able to protect the other from the horrors of the hero business, but Legend has already been through so much, more than most of them can even comprehend.
It certainly doesn’t help that he started so young.
Wars lets out a groan as the rain begins to come down harder- not quite a downpour yet but certainly looking to be that way soon. He hears the others make similar complaints but only has eyes for Legend, watching the boy draw further into himself the harder the rain falls.
Had Legend’s issues with rain started so young? Or perhaps it was a holdover from a later adventure? Wars recalls the Veteran mentioning being caught in a storm while out at sea once.
Regardless of the reason, it’s affecting him now.
Warriors is violently jolted from his thoughts by the crashing of thunder. His eyes snap to Legend even as he jolts in surprise.
Legend, who jumps violently and slams his one working hand over his ear. Wars sees him dig his fingers into his hair and pull-
Without thinking Wars rushes forwards and grabs Legend's wrist. His intention is only to stop him from hurting himself further; he doesn't expect the boy to jerk his arm away and scream.
