I recently looked at some of my all time favourite books and realised that they all contain a historical element. It’s funny because I was never really inclined to read any historical fiction but The Raven Cycle, The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, One Last Stop and These Violent Delights all give us glimpses into the past through a new lens.
This is why I was so excited when PanMacmillan South Africa sent me a copy of Lucy Holland’s Sistersong. This book sounds right up my alley and I’m very interested in reading it as soon as possible.

i’ve just finished this well loved copy of wuthering heights! i’m not sure if i truly enjoyed the novel, however it plays such a central role in the gothic tradition that i couldn’t bear to skip it.

Did some solo exploring while visiting friends in Boston and found this little book shop near one of the gardens. I guess I live in this alley now?

“The First Daughter is for the throne. The Second Daughter is for the Wolf.” - Hannah Whitten
For the Wolf was such an entertaining read. I started reading it for the Read Better Book Club and I found myself finishing the book in a matter of days because I couldn’t put it down. It was just so engaging and had ALL THE TROPES I love. Marriage of convenience, ONLY ONE BED, grumpy/sunshine. Would 10/10 recommend!

I am DONE with my summer courses ♡ now, I get to relax for the next three weeks before going back to school, but this time, as the teacher. woooo!

summer break means uncontrollable amount of online history/archeology courses, spending time at the library and making sure you know exactly where every book is placed, tons of notes and highlighting textbooks like a maniac, dirty porcelain cups because there is no time for anything else beside studying. sorry I can’t calm down. studying is much better with no pressure pushing you from every corner of the academic life. 🕰🏛☕️

If this essay doesn’t kill me, nothing will. I’m currently grappling with the concept of connecting Du Bois’ concept of double consciousness with post-structuralism. I don’t know whether I’m being very clever or very stupid. (x)

been raining all day and it’s rather hard for me to stay productive when my brain automatically thinks that this kind of weather is justification enough to slack off a little. jeez
also, i finally upgraded my desk! it’s still the same table i’ve been using (i really didn’t want to purchase another one) but i got a bigger wooden counter top to put over it to increase my workspace a little :D
