-the Isle of the Ancestors-

What if, when a Cardinal is designated to be the next Papa, he first had to go through a kind of ceremony, a test to judge whether he is worthy of his predecessors?

I've taken this painting, the Isle of the Dead by Arnold Böcklin, as the basis for a papal sanctuary. I imagine that once the Cardinal has passed through the gate in the middle of the cypress trees, he finds himself somewhere outside time and space, where he can face the entire Emeritus line.

On this ageless side, it looks like the painting by Beksiński, with giant statufied mummies personifying each of the papas in an orange-yellow atmosphere.

As for what's going on there? Perhaps it's an opportunity for introspection for the Cardinal candidate, or a dialogue with these illustrious figures. It's a mystery.

If he is judged worthy, the Cardinal will return ready to take up his new duties, if not… who knows…

I realized I made a mistake in the last Terzomega drawing! When Terzo was cardinal the Ghouls didn’t wear the metal mask yet, so I just ran at home after work to fix it 😂

Their monk attire was also my favorite 😅
