In honor of a particularly bad year of television, I'm proposing a gen round focused on women who love women. Even in fandom, there's a lot of emphasis on lesbians being defined by their relationship or sexuality. I know that there is a lot of shippyness in fandom anyway - and smut - but it would be particularly nice if these characters could be celebrated in a gen-fashion. The most important rule this month will be: I am alive. Let's celebrate the lives and hobbies and personalities and friendships of these fantastic ladies.

Welcome to Round Three:: Elena Gilbert

As most of us know, last week marked the final Vampire Diaries episode for the incomparable Nina Dobrev, and as such the last sighting of Elena Gilbert. When the news first broke on tumblr a few weeks ago, we modly ones decided that it seemed only fitting to say goodbye to her here by hosting a special round in her honor. mod note:: Kels is suffering from some seriously bad tendinitis or something, so if anyone wants to make a banner for this round, that would be seriously awesome. Gen Mini-Ficathon Round One

This is a multi-fandom experience, so for the next three days we'll be hosting nominations for what fandoms will be focused on for this round. On Wednesday, sign-ups will go live and on Saturday we start writing! The world needs more gen-fic, we need more of an emphasis on friendships and family being just as important as romantic relationships. Romance is fun and it's sexy and provocative - but in this space, we're trying to build a community that looks more specifically at those relationships that are just as meaningful and carry just as much weight as the popular ships.

Welcome to Genfic Minis, the mini-ficathon that focuses on gen relationships across fandoms!

How this works: On Monday, an open community post will go up and members will comment with their top five fandom choices for the week On Wednesday, the voting will close and the top three fandoms, along with the theme, will go up and sign-ups will begin On Friday, the sign-ups will close. On Saturday, the assignments will be mailed out. Two Saturdays later, the fics (of 500 words or more) will be due and a masterlist will be posted.

The next Monday, things start all over again.

Rules:

1. Only platonic relationships are allowed in this community. Which means no canon-ships or UST/unrequited love unless the recipient specifically requests it.

2. Post directly to the community page, or post with a link to your journal. Always post your fic behind a lj cut.  

3. Leave feedback on other people's fics when you read them. It's only nice, even if you only have time to say something short. If you do not comment on the fic written for you, you will be placed on probation within the community.

4. If you are late, you have up to two days after the due date to sumbit your ficlet. After that, we will find a back-up writer. If you drop out in a round, you must sit the next round out. If you are going to be delayed or find you cannot finish, please let the mods know ASAP (genficmini.mods @ gmail dot com).
