You ever draw a comic page and then realise only when colouring it that it’s basically a Homestuck homage and you didn’t plan it, you just have Homestuck burned into your brain?

This is a scene I had to scream my way through for Let’s Read Homestuck, which may explain why it’s so indelibly lodged in my consciousness… Virtually Ensconced In The Fold Of My Personal Mythology?

I mean…. to be fair, Sarin has so much Kanaya energy being the lesbian “team mum” who thinks she’s “the sensible one” but only fulfils that role with partial success and has a massive crush on a snarky goth, I think this was kind of an inevitability really.

It’s inescapable. If you’re a Homestuck, or have ever been a Homestuck, it will bleed into everything you make afterwards. Forever. It will never completely wash out.

Summary

“Deep breaths, Cupcake, you’re having a panic attack.” Vi took her hand in her own and placed it against her own chest, taking deep breaths in and slowly releasing them. Her gaze was fixed on the soothing motions of Vi’s breathing. Once her breathing had returned to normal she stared at the ex-prisoner, her shoulders slumped forward and she buried her head into her neck. Caitlyn gripped her strong back, her nails digging in as she closed the gap between them, inhaling her deeply, she smelt of dirt, oil and sweat. She placed a kiss on her collarbone and waited for any resistance, when Vi’s grip tightened on her, she brushed her nose against her head – telling her everything she needed to know.

I recently watched Arcane and my brain has been rotting ever since. I've been consuming everything Cait/Vi on here and can't wait to read more.

I really wanted to write something that got the desperation of the aftermath of The Monster You Created.

This is the first fanfiction I've written in over two decades – hopefully, it is not my last!

I ran a successful Kickstarter this year and with help from @mxjinn for the editing and Trevor Wilson for the most amazing “obnoxious monster truck announcer” voice I could have hoped for, made this video… which is… one of the highlights of 2022 for me, honestly.
