When the highly superstitious and untrusting villagers inadvertently learn of Summit’s history, he is quick to realize their hatred for the Lachlan family and all its companions.

Beaten and left for dead in the woods as an offering to the hated monster within them, Summit doesn't expect to be saved by the monster himself. He certainly doesn't expect them to find love in each other.

VIBES/THEMES/TROPES: 90s slacker comedy with a 90s monster movie twist. Coming-of-age for 20-somethings, reluctant heroes, friends-to-lovers, with dragons and demons and plenty of nostalgic/vintage vibes. Ace/demi rep (Mick), bi/demiromantic rep (Eleanor), nb rep (with a special focus on amab nbs).

SUMMARY:

October 1995. Pizza delivery boy Mick Martin and socialite-slacker Eleanor d’Étoile find themselves wasting away in their sleepy hometown, five months after Eleanor graduated college and four years after Mick threw away a scholarship. They have no plans and no prospects, except to live and die exactly where they grew up. That is, until they accidentally interrupt a strange, dark ritual during an after-hours delivery to the local mall—an event that leaves Mick inflicted with an equally strange curse. And so, Mick and Eleanor scramble to unravel the dark secrets of the mall, break Mick’s curse, and stop evil cultists from ripping a hole in the fabric of reality, before Mick is forced to join the cultists’ legion of demons. And maybe, just maybe, they’ll figure themselves out along the way.

Mick Martin (he/him): Delivery boy for the Red Rooster Pizza and Italian Bistro and Eleanor d'Étoile's best friend. Pragmatic, soft-spoken, and intensely stubborn, Mick decided his future was right there in Southwind four years ago for reasons that might have to do with the Red Rooster's financial troubles. Currently may be turning into a demon thanks to weird cult magic, which is a little bit annoying.

Eleanor d'Étoile (she/her): Youngest daughter of the count of Southwind and Mick Martin's best friend. She's recently graduated from a prestigious college in the kingdom's capital, yet she's back home in Southwind. Upbeat, bold, and forever curious, despite her dedication to doing the bare minimum professionally, she can never resist the draw of a good mystery. Unfortunately for Mick.

Adelaide Garrick (she/her): Manager at Bard Records by day and self-proclaimed ghost hunter by night. Absolute nerd, especially for magical shenanigans. Chill, perky, and eager to make new friends, Adelaide is more or less the friendly face of Bard Records.

Alistair Merriweather (they/them): Proprietor of Bard Records. Chiller than Antarctica, yet somehow also the Parent Friend. Prefers hanging out in the back of their own store to dealing with customers. Favorite musical genre: Punk bands you've never heard of.

"Chanticleer" (they/them): Proprietor of Painted Dragon Mystical Goods, a tiny kiosk selling occult goods just outside Bard Records. Weird af Some Guy, who always seems to pop up in the strangest places, where one would least expect them. Chanticleer is almost certainly not their name.

The Rabbit: A cherry-red 1986 VW Rabbit and Mick's steed of choice. The most magical thing in this story is the fact that it's still running. Technically gets more screentime than half this list.

The Cloaks: A coven of twelve (technically thirteen) witches who are definitely not up to something in the local mall. Don't worry about them. They are definitely not summoning demons. "The Cloaks" are definitely not their name, but don't tell Mick this.

My name is Ley (pronounced like "Lee," she/they) and I'm a fiction writer/editor based in the PNW. I haven't done a proper writeblr intro in a while, so I figure the new year is a great time to reintroduce myself to the community!

— about me

An important thing to understand about me and the way I talk about writing is that this stuff is literally my entire life. Even outside of work, I don't think I have a single interest or hobby that doesn't relate back to storytelling in some capacity. I'm an avid media consumer and critic, and will hyperanalyze just about anything that catches my fancy for more than a minute.

I love science fiction and fantasy, and my goal as a writer is to take all the genres I loved growing up and create stories that are a little more diverse, inclusive, and queer.

I came to writeblr mostly to share my work, but also to find an active community where I can get excited with other writers and talk shop. Marketing is obviously a really important part of the publishing industry, but I get tired of having to filter every thought I have about my work and experiences through the lens of aesthetic micro-trends just to put it out in the world. Sometimes I just want to pop off about scenes I'm proud of, you know?

Above all else, I really just want to connect with more writers like myself, ones who got their start in fandom spaces and are working to take their writing from a hobby into a career. I see you, I am you, I love you, let's be friends!

I write a lot, though most of it is disconnected nonsense. Flash fiction and short stories are where I really thrive as a writer. I don't tend to commit to long-form projects, but I have a few projects that I'll occasionally share details about!

I like to describe my style as "earnest and character-forward," which is a fancy way of saying that I like driven protagonists who think too much and are emotional to the point of it being a character flaw.

My goal is to share more of my original writing moving forward, so hopefully you'll get to see all of this for yourself. If I'm totally honest, though, you'll probably see more of me discussing my work than actually writing it.

Agnomen: A sci-fi retelling of Hamlet and Coriolanus, currently in its very preliminary stages. It is literally my Roman Empire, except it's set on a moon of a planet that I'm calling Jupiter as a placeholder (but please note that it isn't actually Jupiter, as Jupiter is a gas giant and therefore a scientifically impossible setting for large sections of the plot).

Alter Ego: A superhero fic in which not-so-mild-mannered reporter Drew Derrick fights for mutant rights and can't seem to get his act together when it comes to keeping the complicated parts of his life separate.

Untitled Fantasy Project: The very first project I ever wrote, and the piece I return to every so often when writing is feeling more like a slog than a fun hobby. I set a lot of one-offs in this world and follow a few key characters around without them having a real plot.

D&D: I write a lot about Baz, my Wild Magic Barbarian. He's a regency noble with a lot of problems, and I care about him very much. I also have various other settings and characters, but he's my most active PC at the moment and therefore gets the most attention.

this is a little challenge ive given myself! to celebrate the new year, im going to post stuff about one oc for every day in January.

Meet Bonesaw. Bitter, morbid, and self-destructive, Bonesaw carries a festering hatred inside her that has touched every aspect of her life. She believes that she is poisonous to her core.

Bonesaw Mintzdotre (she/her) is a 24-year-old human in the world of Erapiae. Though she does not start out as a main in this wip, she earns her place in time.

A former friend of Silver Verniron, Bonesaw first appears when, after tracking Silver down and learning of the Lator Amores Selhun, she contacts him to request help in putting her mother's vengeful spirit to rest.

- Her birth name was Julietta Kuuset.

- A lesbian (but too emotionally suffocated to pursue a healthy romance).

- Has a blonde, very choppy shag mullet (and i love her for it).

- Had a huge crush and an "i could make her worse" mentality about Silver's older sister Cyan.

- Lowkey needs a redemption arc.
