The Wool & Silk Trail. 🧶🧵🧭 . Six days of intense trekking to cover 130 km by foot. A wondrous trail across the Italian Apennines retracing the footsteps of the Second World War's most salient, and crude, moments. Incredible landscapes and twisting mountain paths encapsulate an evokative and thoughtful atmosphere, all flavored by the magic of travelling: unforeseen, but yet incredible, encounters on the way. . It has not been easy, we gotta admit it. There has been moment passed on the edge of giving up, given the steepness of the climbing and the heaviness of the backpacks. It was in those instances that we were able to uncover the power of the mind, holding on to the determination to overcome our personal limits. Easter Egg of Romagna (the region I am from in 🇮🇹): hidden in between the hills to the west of my hometown (Forli), the countryside conceals a gem of great uniqueness and rarity. A small fire burning perennially, endlessly powered by a harmless gas leak coming out from the ground. Overtime, the place, renamed 'The Little Volcano', became quite notorious and a gathering point for youngsters and travellers. For me and my friend, it is kind of a ritual to reunite over there at least one time during the summe. It is difficult to describe into words the astonishing spectacle of the Dolomites (a peculiar mountain formation in the North of Italy that became part of the UNESCO world heritage). From the mighty peaks and throughout the twisty paths, spaceless views and breathtaking landscapes filled our eyes with beauty and incredulity, day after day. The Romantic poets used one expression to refer to the feelings and sensations instilled by a natural scenery of incredible beauty: the sublime (referring to a mix between terryfing astonishment and admired reverence). This is the closest way I can express what we felt from the top of those mountains.
