i feel like what people get wrong about writing Childe is the way he responds to/views his trauma. Mostly bc I feel like people try to either write him as a well adjusted member of society with a for some reason sadistic streak (he's a masochist get it right), or a stereotypical abuse victim or a war vet. And none of those things are accurate.

Childe is NOT hypervigilent. By that I mean he's not really constantly on edge, waiting for something bad to happen. I know it seems like that because he can be kind of manic sometimes and shows signs of paranoia, but like the way he responds to actual triggers, such as being reminded of the Abyss and being dehumanized/groomed by the Fatui is very much hypovigilent.

By that I mean, he's very much "this is fine this is normal actually I liked what happened to me". Traumatized from constantly having to fight for his literal life for three months straight in the Abyss? "Actually I love fighting now it's my favorite thing I'm going to fight all the time now". Being dehumanized by his parents, joining a cult that uses him literally as a pawn to the point his title is basically "the cult leader's WMD"? "Actually I'm literally just a weapon and that's great that's how it should be I love fulfilling my purpose I love my groomers they're the coolest people ever"

He's not crying shaking throwing up all the time bc he doesn't realize he SHOULD be crying shaking throwing up all the time. That if any normal person was in his situation they'd be completely non functional. Obviously this loops around to "Childe has DID" because I mean what doesn't. Because I've said it before and I'll say it again, the disorder fucking makes you think you don't have the disorder. That's why you can't self diagnose and why so many people who are diagnosed with it STILL think they're faking. So yeah those kinds of "actually what happened to me was fine and wasn't traumatic at all" thinking patterns are super common in DID because the whole point of it is your brain trying and failing to keep you functional and not spending every second of every day having PTSD flashbacks.

Anyways I feel like people see this and go one of two ways, like they either see that he's somewhat functional and claims to like what's happening to him and assume he's perfectly well adjusted and untraumatized, or they see "oh shit ___ thing was definitely traumatic as hell" and immediately write him as crying shaking throwing up traumatized. There's more options than just those two things guys.......
