Namora the Sea Queen
In Atlantean Namora means Avenging Daughter
Full Names and Titles: Namora, Aquaria Nautica Neptunia, The Sea Queen, The Sea Beauty, Princess of Atlantis, Monarch of Atlantis, Sub-Mariner

Namora was created in the Golden Age of Comics by Ken Bald & Syd Shores. Her first appearance was May 1947 in Marvel Mystery Comics #82. Her real name is Aquaria Nautica Neptunia. However she was given the nickname of Namora in honor of her cousin Namor the Sub-Mariner. Namor and Namora are not blood cousins. Namora’s father was adopted into the Royal household which is why she is given the title Princess of Atlantis. Like her cousin Namora is a hybrid. Half Atlantean-Half Human: Father an Atlantean & Mother a Human.

Namora, Namor, & Betty Dean often had adventures in the Golden Age. Namora was a regular in the early days of comics, she even had her own mini series, appearing in Marvel Mystery Comics & Sub-Mariner comics until the1950′s.  Over the next 50 years Namora would appear in what-if, flashbacks, and alternate reality stories. During those years Namora married her husband Talen who understood that due to her hybrid nature children would be impossible, however later in their marriage this grew to be an issue. Namora desperatly wanted a child and so sought out an Atlantean scientist who illegally cloned her DNA (this was much frowned upon in Atlantis) and then implanted the embryo so that Namora would have a daughter named Namorita. Talen died then Namora and Namorita lived in different underwater cities before settling in Lemuria. The reason for her disappearance from the main comics was explained in The Sub-Mariner (1968).

Namora’s first introduction into the Silver Age was in a flashback in The Sub-Mariner #33 (1968) It was later revealed in #50 that Namora had ‘died’ and was encased in a coffin of ice. She was survived by her only daughter Namorita. In issue #51 it was revealed that Lyyra (Namor villainess who murdered Namor’s wife Dorma) had poisoned Namora.
Finally in Agents of Atlas (2006) Namora would return.

Now in the Modern Age of Comics Namora now a member of the Agents of Atlas discovered that her daughter Namorita had died in the Stamford Incident which ignited the Civil War. Namora was devestated upon learning this and wouldn’t grieve for some time until Agents of Atlas (2009) #3.
Tumblr media
The loss of her daughter bore a great heaviness on Namora’s heart and she chose to stay with the Agents of Atlas rather than returning to Atlantis though she would always be there for her people both below the sea and on the land.
