Accidental Child Acquisition
The trope where people somehow acquire a child.
You're not supposed to feed wildlife or they continue to return for food. They didn't know it worked with children too, but after giving a snack to one child, suddenly a lot more turn up at their door.
"I keep telling you, it just turned up. No, I don't know its name. What do you mean I should just talk to it?"
Years later no one seemed to quite remember where the child actually had come from, but was that really that important?
After their shift in the hospital, they find a baby outside in the parking lot. It's their job to care for people, but it quickly becomes much more than that.
"You can't go around and adopt every child that doesn't have a good home." "Why not?"
When their irresponsible sibling left their child at their door and then left for good, all they can do is take in the child as their own.
After taking down a trafficking ring, they are left with one child that they just can't connect to a family. No one seems to have missed them.
It didn't matter how the family got together. And it wasn't an accident either. It was a sign of fate and they were thankful for it every day.

How to show emotions
Part V
How to show grief
a vacant look
slack facial expressions
shaky hands
trembling lips
swallowing
struggling to breathe
tears rolling down their cheeks
How to show fondness
smiling with their mouth and their eyes
softening their features
cannot keep their eyes off of the object of their fondness
sometimes pouting the lips a bit
reaching out, wanting to touch them
How to show envy
narrowing their eyes
rolling their eyes
raising their eyebrows
grinding their teeth
tightening jaw
chin poking out
pouting their lips
forced smiling
crossing arms
shifting their gaze
clenching their fists
tensing their muscles
then becoming restless/fidgeting
swallowing hard
stiffening
holding their breath
blinking rapidly
exhaling sharply
How to show regret
scrubbing a hand over the face
sighing heavily
downturned mouth
slightly bending over
shoulders hanging low
hands falling to the sides
a pained expression
heavy eyes
staring down at their feet

Ref Recs for Whump Writers
Violence: A Writer’s Guide: This is not about writing technique. It is an introduction to the world of violence. To the parts that people don’t understand. The parts that books and movies get wrong. Not just the mechanics, but how people who live in a violent world think and feel about what they do and what they see done.
Hurting Your Characters: HURTING YOUR CHARACTERS discusses the immediate effect of trauma on the body, its physiologic response, including the types of nerve fibers and the sensations they convey, and how injuries feel to the character. This book also presents a simplified overview of the expected recovery times for the injuries discussed in young, otherwise healthy individuals.
Body Trauma: A writer’s guide to wounds and injuries. Body Trauma explains what happens to body organs and bones maimed by accident or intent and the small window of opportunity for emergency treatment. Research what happens in a hospital operating room and the personnel who initiate treatment. Use these facts to bring added realism to your stories and novels.
10 B.S. Medical Tropes that Need to Die TODAY…and What to Do Instead: Written by a paramedic and writer with a decade of experience, 10 BS Medical Tropes covers exactly that: clichéd and inaccurate tropes that not only ruin books, they have the potential to hurt real people in the real world.
Maim Your Characters: How Injuries Work in Fiction: Increase Realism. Raise the Stakes. Tell Better Stories. Maim Your Characters is the definitive guide to using wounds and injuries to their greatest effect in your story. Learn not only the six critical parts of an injury plot, but more importantly, how to make sure that the injury you’re inflicting matters.
Blood on the Page: This handy resource is a must-have guide for writers whose characters live on the edge of danger. If you like easy-to-follow tools, expert opinions from someone with firsthand knowledge, and you don’t mind a bit of fictional bodily harm, then you’ll love Samantha Keel’s invaluable handbook

How to get to know your characters better?
(feel free to add your own thoughts to this list, hope it helps!) req by @miricalebabyy44 <3
what will your character be like if they were in your shoes?
is your oc the mom friend or the dad or the childish one in their friendgroup ?
do those "poet, king, soldier" quiz for your oc. im being fr
do the "36 questions to fall in love" quiz as your oc.
ik your ocs trauma have an impact on their character, but how would they be like, if they hadn't gone through that experience?
does your oc have similar tastes as you do? (music, art, fashion, coffee/tea etctetc)
will they "i only live once so I'll do it for the plot." or will they "i only live once ffs, i don't wanna die." ?
what is your ocs opinion of love? how is/was their love life on a scale of 1-10?
will your oc let go of someone precious to them when they know they're putting them at danger?
around whom does your oc lets their guard down?
are they romantically constipated or a hopeless romantic?
what type of music does ur oc like?
write a lot about your oc if you're struggling to get to know them. find a drabble prompt, and write what they'd do.
do they trust others easily or do they get trusted by others easily?
what is something your oc will never talk to anyone about? (their answer can be deep, like some emo trauma or like smthng like back when they shit their pants or smthng yk)
do they give off golden retriever energy, or a black cat energy? (or both?)
what will THEIR opinion be on YOUR current life? will they be ur friend? will they trust you?
will your oc survive in a fantasy setting, a war setting, a dystopian setting, a futuristic setting, a medieval setting? will ur oc survive after getting stranded on an island, or a forest?
does your oc like their parents, do they like how their life is, do they feel like they're born in the right gen?
if they are ever to get one wish definitely granted, what would they wish for?
how did they react to their first kiss? (if they have had it by now lmao)
what's an ideal day for your oc?
lastly, who does your oc go to when they've fucked up?

Touch Starved Prompts
It was strange to touch each other without one of them dying, but maybe touch was also something for the living.
Like magnets they moved together, pressing into each other's warmth.
There always needed to be a reason, an excuse for their bodies to touch.
Being touch-starved and needy was really starting to mess with their reputation as a tough guy.
It was like their skin was calling out for the other's gentle touch.
They didn't like to be touched by just anyone. But that didn't mean they didn't also crave it sometimes.
A coldness took over their body that only the warmth of another person could erase.
They wanted to be touched, to be missed, to be loved. Was that too much to ask for?
Leaning onto each other, just being close, was enough.
Their bodies fitting together like they always were intended to become one.

things said: assortment.
a meme about things said in a variety of situations, for when you want to get that feeling. some light trigger warnings apply for implications of death, injury, arguments, pregnancy, and sexual situations.
things said: in the moment.
❝ i will never forgive you! ❞
❝ we have to go! we have to go now! ❞
❝ why can’t you see that all i want is you?! ❞
❝ you have entirely bewitched me. ❞
❝ get out of my sight! ❞
❝ i slept with someone else. ❞
❝ come here. ❞
❝ you are terrible and awful and perfectly horrid and – and mine. ❞
❝ it never meant anything to me anyway. ❞
❝ you broke my soul, ___. ❞
❝ i regret every moment that we spent together. ❞
❝ hate me as much as you wish, ___, but i will never stop loving you. ❞
❝ then marry me, for god’s sake! ❞
❝ now look what you have done! ❞
❝ i despise you! ❞
❝ what the fuck does it matter what they think? you’re the only one i love! ❞
❝ there’s no time for this! ❞
things said: the morning after.
❝ thank you for staying with me, last night. ❞
❝ mmmh, i think i’ll stay here for a little while longer. ❞
❝ i don’t want to get up just yet. ❞
❝ breakfast in bed? gosh, i am lucky. ❞
❝ beside you, i slept better than i ever have on my own. ❞
❝ i liked what you did when you – ❞
❝ i don’t regret a second of what we did together, just so you know. ❞
❝ so much for being ‘just friends’, haha! ❞
❝ i’m going to be late for work, but i don’t want to leave you. ❞
❝ thank you for seeing me. the real me, underneath. ❞
❝ i was just thinking how beautiful you are. ❞
❝ do you want to – y’know. go for seconds? ❞
❝ where’s my shirt? i don’t know where i dropped it. ❞
❝ soooo. what next, hmm? are we together now? ❞
❝ what are we going to say to everyone about where we went? ❞
things said as they turn to leave.
❝ i’m sorry! i didn’t mean to say it, it just came out! ❞
❝ don’t come back until you’re sober. ❞
❝ can you pick up some milk on your way back, love? ❞
❝ have a good day at work! ❞
❝ you’ll be fine, i know it. ❞
❝ wait, there’s something i wanted to ask you – ❞
❝ just promise me you’ll come back in one piece. ❞
❝ please, let’s just talk about this! ❞
❝ oh no, you are not wriggling out of attending this party so easily! ❞
❝ what do you mean, you’re going out? ❞
❝ hey, you’ve forgot your keys again! ❞
❝ aren’t you forgetting something – like the lunch i’ve made for you? ❞
❝ you are not leaving this house dressed like that, are you? ❞
❝ why do you always walk out when we have a fight? ❞
❝ don’t expect me to still be here when you come back. ❞
things said when you can’t bear it.
❝ there’s something i haven’t told anyone. ❞
❝ i couldn’t keep it a secret any longer. ❞
❝ i’ve held my silence for all of these years for your sake! ❞
❝ it was ripping me apart inside. ❞
❝ i’ve done something terrible. ❞
❝ i think you might need to sit down for this. ❞
❝ they didn’t make it. i’m so sorry. ❞
❝ i really, really need to tell you something. ❞
❝ please don’t be mad at me, but – ❞
❝ it was meant to be a surprise. ❞
❝ so, i have to tell you what happens in episode 5 – ❞
❝ there’s something hanging over my head and i have to tell someone, so here goes – please don’t hate me, but – ❞
❝ do not tell them i told you! they swore me to secrecy!! ❞
❝ darling, what i’ve been meaning to tell you is – i’m pregnant. ❞
things said when time runs out.
❝ what do you mean, only one of us can leave? no, no, i’m not going without you! i can’t leave without you!❞
❝ you said we would always be partners in this. what’s changed so suddenly, huh? am i not enough for you anymore? ❞
❝ but i loved you with every bit of my heart. did you ever love me? ❞
❝ no, no, stay with me! tell me what happened, tell me how i fix it! ❞
❝ what are you saying? are you – are you breaking up with me? ❞
❝ woah, that was rough, wasn’t it? ___? ___!!! ❞
❝ s– sorry, __. ❞ ( collapses. )
❝ just go, don’t worry about me, okay? the most important thing is you get to safety while you still can! ❞
❝ don’t forget me, ___. ❞
❝ it’s just a scratch. ❞
❝ how long have you been hiding this from me? no, come on, stay awake, it’s alright – you’re going to be alright – ❞
❝ you were meant to be my happy ending. ❞
❝ please stay with me. please, please stay. ❞
❝ you made my life worth living. ❞

USEFUL WEBSITES FOR WRITERS
Writing With Color: Helps with writing about culture, ethnicity, and religion. Overall, it gives advice on how to write about diversity.
Name Generator: As the name says, it helps you build names for your characters. Very useful if you cannot think of names for your characters!
KathySteinemann: The 'archive.pdf' section helps you with synonyms in case you struggle to find the right word for your sentences (also to avoid using redundant words).
Spwickstrom: Similar to the previous one, this one provides grammar tips. Extremely helpful when finding phrases, verbs, conjunctions, adjectives, and so on.
Servicescape: The perfect website if you're experiencing writer's block. It provides writing prompts. It helps you spark creativity when it comes to writing.

make 'em swoon
eyes meeting from across the room
reaching out, grabbing their hand
a subtle wink
licking their lips
a hug that gets deeper
"hi" *raspy voice*
falling asleep on each other
coming back for another kiss
pressing their foreheads together
smile that makes their eyes soften
brushing away their hair
putting their hand on the other's neck
holding them close by their hips
pulling them on their lap
smirking in a way that suggests more
drawing with their fingertips on their skin
hugging them from behind
a kiss pressed to the neck
lips brushing against their ear
whispering to them like they're alone in the world
