update
Hello all! This blog has been inactive for ages for a couple of reasons, which I will share just in case any of you were wondering why I haven’t been active lately. I took an entire year off of school. This was for health reasons. I just felt as though I couldn’t keep up with running a studyblr if I wasn’t doing any actual studying, so I shelved this blog.
I am now feeling much better health-wise and am once again enrolled in university, majoring in computer science.
I might pick up this blog again if I can come up with original content. (My handwriting is trash so aesthetic pictures of my notes are out of the question.) I might post daily accountability text posts, not that anyone would read them but -- it might help me get things done just knowing that my to-dos are out on the internet.
So, yeah. That’s where this studyblr is at right now. If you followed me before and liked my blog, let me know what type of content you might like to see. I’m completely clueless as to what I could post, so any suggestions would be welcome and appreciated.

Everything Is Awful and I’m Not Okay: questions to ask before giving up
Are you hydrated?  If not, have a glass of water.
Have you eaten in the past three hours?  If not, get some food — something with protein, not just simple carbs.  Perhaps some nuts or hummus?
Have you showered in the past day?  If not, take a shower right now.
If daytime: are you dressed?  If not, put on clean clothes that aren’t pajamas.  Give yourself permission to wear something special, whether it’s a funny t-shirt or a pretty dress.
If nighttime: are you sleepy and fatigued but resisting going to sleep?  Put on pajamas, make yourself cozy in bed with a teddy bear and the sound of falling rain, and close your eyes for fifteen minutes — no electronic screens allowed.  If you’re still awake after that, you can get up again; no pressure.
Have you stretched your legs in the past day?  If not, do so right now.  If you don’t have the spoons for a run or trip to the gym, just walk around the block, then keep walking as long as you please.  If the weather’s crap, drive to a big box store (e.g. Target) and go on a brisk walk through the aisles you normally skip.
Have you said something nice to someone in the past day?  Do so, whether online or in person.  Make it genuine; wait until you see something really wonderful about someone, and tell them about it.
Have you moved your body to music in the past day?  If not, do so — jog for the length of an EDM song at your favorite BPM, or just dance around the room for the length of an upbeat song.
Have you cuddled a living being in the past two days?  If not, do so.  Don’t be afraid to ask for hugs from friends or friends’ pets.  Most of them will enjoy the cuddles too; you’re not imposing on them.
Do you feel ineffective?  Pause right now and get something small completed, whether it’s responding to an e-mail, loading up the dishwasher, or packing your gym bag for your next trip.  Good job!
Do you feel unattractive?  Take a goddamn selfie.  Your friends will remind you how great you look, and you’ll fight society’s restrictions on what beauty can look like.
Do you feel paralyzed by indecision?  Give yourself ten minutes to sit back and figure out a game plan for the day.  If a particular decision or problem is still being a roadblock, simply set it aside for now, and pick something else that seems doable.  Right now, the important part is to break through that stasis, even if it means doing something trivial.
Have you seen a therapist in the past few days?  If not, hang on until your next therapy visit and talk through things then.
Have you been over-exerting yourself lately — physically, emotionally, socially, or intellectually?  That can take a toll that lingers for days. Give yourself a break in that area, whether it’s physical rest, taking time alone, or relaxing with some silly entertainment.
Have you changed any of your medications in the past couple of weeks, including skipped doses or a change in generic prescription brand?  That may be screwing with your head.  Give things a few days, then talk to your doctor if it doesn’t settle down.
Have you waited a week?  Sometimes our perception of life is skewed, and we can’t even tell that we’re not thinking clearly, and there’s no obvious external cause.  It happens.  Keep yourself going for a full week, whatever it takes, and see if you still feel the same way then.
You’ve made it this far, and you will make it through.  You are stronger than you think.

study tips/hacks for mental health struggles
an ‘about’ blurb
Now, before I get into this post, I just want to assert that obviously if you are having really bad mental health you should seek help. Trying to manage by yourself is just going to hurt you :)
These are things that have helped me (subjectively. some of these may not help you) study a lot better w/ untreated mental health problems (which if you read my last post is probably bipolar disorder) and honestly they’ve been an absolute lifesaver for me. These ‘hacks’ are the only way i’ve been functioning/able to get anything done honestly. I really hope they can help you. also please dont judge my bad grammar. it’s intentional because tumblr is not a blog for ‘formal’ posting. xoxo
pomodoros
Tumblr media
The pomodoro technique is an absolute godsend. if I do study-sprints with other people, I’ll sync up 25 min work times/breaks with them and check in with them every large break. Accountability. Otherwise, if I’m doing pomos alone, I have found that longer pomodoros are wayyyyy more productive for me. The website https://web.5217.app/ has 52 minute pomodoros with a 17 minute break. I get a lot more done in those 52 minutes than I do in two 25 minute sessions. also, the 17 minutes are nicer for preventing burnout (for me) because i have time to close my eyes and let my brain rest for a few minutes and I have time to get a drink of water, check my phone, check Discord, scroll through my dashboard, get a snack, use the bathroom, etcetera. I recommend you start with the standard pomos and then gradually increase to longer ones until you find what works best for you
writing a to-do and sharing it to other people
Tumblr media
I know what you’re thinking. “why would sharing it to other people make a difference? I’m too depressed to work before I write the to-do and I’ll be too depressed to work after I write the to-do. For whatever reason, it just majorly satisfies my brain to write out a nice list. You can buy a to-do pad, or type it out online. Even more odd, it’s hugely motivating for me if I try to be accountable to other people. They can check in on me, ask how my work is going. I always get a lot more done. I’m really not sure why. I just do.
physical self-care
When I’m in a rough spot w/ mental health it’s honestly p tough to take care of myself. I might skip meals for days, neglect to wash my face, not shave for days, etc. If i’m in this state, it’s really difficult for me to do schoolwork as well (believe it or not.) However, if I can get myself to at least wash my face, I’ll notice a HUGE improvement in my mood. It’s crazy. I will force myself to get off my ass and at least wash my face with a cloth and some warm water. Might use some cleanser. and then once I wash my face I just emotionally feel a lot more motivated. For you, this can look like the above example. Or, it might look like drinking a glass of water, grooming/brushing your hair, taking a bath, etc. Whatever makes you feel good and motivates you.
study-motivation online communities
Tumblr media
Spending time on my studyblr or study discord server is honestly really motivating. Seeing other people being productive/talking about being productive is great! Additionally, I have the mobile apps on my phone - which means that no matter where I am I can always pull them up. Just browsing the #studyblr tag or seeing people chat about their grades is insanely motivating. really helps me get into the productivity mindset and kick depression in the ass. actually using my planner
Tumblr media
If you have a planner, use it! Whether you’re using spreadsheet, some software, a bullet journal, a physical planner from target, a planner is going to help you declutter your mind and stay focused on the priorities. (if I don’t use a planner I’m prone on spending all my hours of time on a small side assignment instead of working on, say, a midterm assignment, solely because of my brain’s arbitrary whim. Using a planner helps me sort out what to prioritize.)
xoxo.

my study planner
~ 08/08/18 ~
heyo!! last school year i spent absolute ages composing and perfecting my study planner/motivator and it’s a Google spreadsheet - so i reckon that I can share it here for y’all to use at your leisure??
Tumblr media
work-time logging, pomodoro and point calculation
- the main function of the sheet is time logging
- basically, you log the number of minutes that you put into your assignments from a course, and the sheet does the rest
Tumblr media
- the calculator takes the combined total of minutes done for each class, and uses it to calculate pomodoros, hours, and “points”
- “points” are calculated by number of minutes + 10 bonus points for every hour spent working
Tumblr media
a nice assignment priority sorter
- helps you keep track of end dates and prioritize each assignment
- color codes based on priority
- can be configured to automatically sort by priority, date, etc
Tumblr media
a to-do list for odds-n’-ends, chores, etc
- has two columns, default for daily/weekly but can be customized to your liking
- you can check off each item every day
- totally up-to-you if you use this, i find it helps to have my todo and my planner in one place
Tumblr media
a reward-store for your ‘points’
- you can put pictures of items you want + their price in a little ‘reward’ section, and it organizes them and creates a point-price! (i bet you wondered where the points would come in!)
- your points + the item points are graphed so as to easily keep track of where you are at point-wise!
- this has motivated me the most honestly so it’s worth a try
Tumblr media
automatic chart graphing for work-time per each class’ assignments, and pts!
- the sheet automatically inputs your work time into a nice pie-chart!
- the colors of the any charts can be changed at will, as well as fonts, etc
Tumblr media
i know you’re probably thinking, “bro i want a copy of this planner right now!!”
you’re in luck - the planner is absolutely free, no cost to you whatsoever, and i require no validation. none of that “follow my blog for a link” bullshit - nope! just follow these instructions:
1) you can find the sheet ~ ~ ~ here  ~ ~ ~
2) once you are viewing the sheet, click file > make a copy. (this will make a copy of the sheet in your Google drive)
3) open sheets.google.com and open your copy of the sheet. Clear out the examples, customize it to your liking.
NOTES:
- you should read the instructions page in the sheet.
- please do not download the sheet, make a copy in Google sheets instead - all of the formatting and fonts will have to be redone if run in a program other than Google Sheets. The fonts used are Sofia and Alegreya.
- you can open the sheet from mobile, laptop, desktop, any operating system - because the Sheets app is available on your phone, and everything else can be opened in your browser. Good for adding to your planner on-the-go.
xoxo

today’s to-do
~ 08/08/18 ~ today i am volunteering at church - cleaning the place - so I will have to do these things after my cleaning! (does volunteer work count for 100 days of productivity?? yeesh) academic-related - get a schedule put together - clean up my school planner, start adding my courses to it - 10 pages of something?? or a combination of things - practice guitar 10min, study circle of 5ths odds and ends - tidy up bedroom/workspace (it’s a huge mess right now, I wrecked it a few days ago during my SU binge haha) - organize my music stuff (my metronome comes today!) xoxo // study discord | my blog

picture it now. the life you want to have. the smells, the colors, the people. the smiles and the accomplishments. where you’ll live, where you’ll relax, where you’ll study or meet new people or just discover. allow yourself to dream, and aim high. disappointment is a part of life, and whenever someone succeeded, they allowed themselves to dream, to expect, and then to fail. and then try all over again, until it worked out.

100 days of productivity
~ 08/07/18 ~ Ugh oh boy - after a long period of blog-silence I’ve finally decided to hop on the bandwagon and try out the “100 days of productivity” thing i keep seeing so much?? what is 100 days of productivity? the name is almost self-explanatory, but to put it simply - i try to be more productive than I would be otherwise, for 100 consecutive days. what will I be doing to be more productive? i have chosen not to set any large, looming goals - just a few small things instead - so as to keep consistent. every day, I will aim to: - organize and clean my workspace (even just decluttering!) - go through and review my notes, even if it’s just a little glance. - spend 10 minutes each day on my studyblr (motivation!) - spend 10 minutes each day studying music theory/practicing (even just reviewing the circle of 5ths) how will I document the experience? posting here, on my studyblr! I will try to snap images of anything visually-documentable, otherwise I will just leave little status updates and whatnot each day! nothing major in the way of posing, just as long as I do it and give smol status updates i think it shouldn’t be too bad??
