Seong's biggest fear is being irrelevant and Gwi-Ma knows/uses that fear in order to control him, which is why he will make sure that the Saja Boys succeed, no matter the cost.

Gwi-Ma gave Seong part of his flame as part of a deal to give him power and influence as a war lord back in ancient times in return for his soul - and since then, said flame lives within him. That way, Gwi-Ma has even more control over Seong than he has over any other demon.

Whenever he feels like Seong needs a reminder of who is - and will always be in control, he burns Seong from the inside.

A few nights ago I dreamt about a forsaken fae character who steals fairy dust in order to regain immortality as well as the magic that was once taken from him by horrible force. In this universe a faes power / dust is stored within their wings and therefore he steals them in order to absorb the power stored within them. By stealing a fae's wings you automatically render them powerless and mortal.

NEXT GEN NOVEL - Pin/Ares/Rice/7723

Recently I found out that Next Gen has a novel that was released in China as part of their marketing for the movie. I went out of my way to translate it in order to find out more information on my favorite characters, mainly Pin, Ares and Rice.

Some info might not be entirely accurate as this information was translated directly from Chinese to English so I cannot promise there not being errors in translation.

ALSO - I am still not entirely sure what is true canon and what is not, as some elements of the book are different from the movie, so take all of this with a grain of salt!

• Pin was diagnosed with cancer and doctors told him he’d reached the terminal stage. However Pin would not accept this and he convinced Rice to perform a highly controversial procedure called "conscious uploading" - despite its many dangers.

• Pin transferred his consciousness into Ares‘ system 6 years before the movie’s events.

• Ares could only properly talk once his system was fully synced with Pin‘s consciousness. He is actually a robot that was used for fighting wars so speaking was not important, just following commands.

• Eventually Ares was the only one left of his kind, so Pin decided to keep him and make him his bodyguard - as Ares was the first AI him and Rice ever developed together.

• Ares was eventually the one in control as his system infected Pin’s consciousness, but he would purposefully not synchronize with Pin until the very end because he had to keep up false appearances. They became dependent on each other and were more vulnerable the further they were apart. They could not act well on their own, their movements and actions were slower. Ares only became quicker and more agile once he was fully synced with Pin.

• Every robot made and sold by IQ has a „back door“ by which Pin is able to control them. 7723 was built by Rice and therefore he didn’t have said back door - which is why Ares wants to destroy him.

• In the book, Pin shoots Rice in Mai’s home rather than at IQ headquarters like in the movie. At that moment 7723 realizes that Rice was almost like his biological father given that he was the one who created him so him helping Mai fight Ares/Pin is partly also to take revenge on them for Rice’s death.

OTHER INFO

• Mai was successfully able to hide 7723 in the garden shed as it stores tools Mai‘s father used for gardening - and ever since her mother Molly and him separated and he died she refuses to go there to avoid memories from resurfacing.

• Rice is apparently addicted to lollipops the same way others are addicted to smoking cigarettes.

• Pin and Rice‘s offices are on the administrative floor at the top of IQ headquarters. Said floor has a maze-like system, and therefore Pin‘s office is incredibly hard to find.

• In the scene where Ares thinks he crushed 7723 after the battle at Mai‘s house he did not realize that Mai and 7732 escaped through a hole in the ground that leads to the sewers. They were able to go all the way to IQ headquarters through the sewer system while remaining hidden underground.

• Like Pin, Rice also transferred everything he knew into 7723‘s consciousness - except for the reason for why he was built. He wanted him to learn and grow on his own, which essentially made him more human.

It’s so interesting to me that at first people assumed that Pin had gone insane and was controlling Ares due to their connection - but actually it was always Ares controlling Pin.

Pin & Rice’s Backstory- directly translated from the novel

Six years ago, Justin Pin‘s cancer was in the late stage, and doctors had sentenced him to death. However, Pin was unwilling to accept his fate, so he begged Dr. Rice to help launch a secret experiment: to upload his consciousness to Ares.

Ares was an armed robot that they designed and built for the military at the beginning. Later, Pin could not bear to see all of them destroyed, so he kept one as his bodyguard. Because Ares was the first AI Pin and Rice ever developed he was very suitable to be used as a transit station for Pin's consciousness.

On the surface, the experiment seemed to have been very successful. Pin appeared to be cured and he was more energetic than before. Under his leadership, IQ Robotics was also flourishing day by day. It's just that Rice found that Pin began to change and become cold and ruthless, completely lacking his usual ease and kindness.

The technology of "conscious uploading" is prohibited by law because of the great risks. Dr. Rice felt that it might be the side effects of the experiment that caused such earth-shattering changes within Pin. When he found out that he was secretly implementing the human removal plan, he couldn't help but secretly create 7723 to fight against Ares.

Dr. Rice looked at the scrapped chip thoughtfully, as if trying to see something from it. He and Pin had been friends for a long time. At that time, they also had a dream to perfect artificial intelligence and worked together for it.

It was just six years ago that Pin fell seriously ill. Although he miraculously recovered later, he seemed to have changed into a different person. Under his leadership, IQ Robotics was increasingly deviating from its original ideal.

Take the latest Gen 6 for example. Although the hardware design was all done by Dr. Rice, the software updates and upgrades were all done by Pin. As a result, Rice did not understand what functions the Gen 6 had received. Just like the small explosion that Pin demonstrated just now - It had never appeared in Dr. Rice’s design book.

The despair in Dr. Rice’s eyes was getting thicker and thicker. He held the burnt chip tightly, and felt the strength in his body draining away bit by bit.

POV you practically live in your best friend's garage by now and you have no idea when was the last time you slept properly because your passion project keeps you so occupied

Wanted to initially just draw Pin with open hair and a more casual look but then I realized how tired he looked so I started imagining a scene taking place during the process of Ares’ creation where Pin works on him day in day out, without any breaks.

And another little drawing exploring the process of Ares being made - I came up with this sweet little HC of Pin clinking his cup of coffee against Ares' hull each morning. Sort of like a ritual, despite Ares not currently being active.

So after almost 7 years (!) my Next Gen obsession returned full force so once more I want to make it my mission to make people aware of that movie's existence by drawing loads of art based on headcanons @emmacreatures and I came up with for Pin & Ares & Rice's backstory and making people believe they're the main characters. 💀🧡

To this day the backstory that was implied for them is one of my favorite tropes ever, I love thinking about it because most of it was left ambiguous. Two best friends founding a robotics company in order to make the world a better place only for the Al they created to entirely misinterpret its intended purpose of „making the world perfect" to take over his own creator's consciousness in order to eradicate humanity - which he sees as the imperfection he was always meant to correct? Amazing. Give me this prequel, I am begging.

It's crazy to realize that when the movie first came out I was still in art school and now I have almost 6 years of experience working on movies and games behind me ( massive thanks to Next Gen for being one of the pieces of media that inspired me to pursue my professional art career in the first place )
