Sometimes I’ll go and see people post about how much certain shows are terribly written or something and I’m like “okay sure” but then remember that I have no right to judge since I’m involved in quite a few fandoms people could consider “poorly written.”
So I thought that even if a show has a terrible ending or was just bad, I should focus on the good parts since there’s already going to be people complaining about it. It’s like with Arc-V. I know the show has its flaws, but I still love it. And you can’t be angry for too long when fix-its exist.

Everyone should stop kink-shaming Tadashi. Everyone likes what they likes and if it works for them, then whatever. There’s a difference between being kinky and legitimately thinking you’re a dog. Also, Tadashi is such an under-appreciated character so I need more Tadashi content.

Banana Fish destroyed me. I had a really deep Sk8 the Infinity phase right before, which was a terrible mistake. Sk8 was supposed to be the cure for Banana Fish, so I guess I’m screwed. It hurts to know that the directors for the two shows are the same, and that there’s so many parallel shots.
My Banana Fish experience was pure pain and depression the whole way through. The only times I laughed or had any ounce of joy was episode 11 and the arc where Ash is stuck in the mental institute. I laughed more during AOT than this, if that says anything.
Ash didn’t deserve any of the things that happened to him. He and Eiji should be living together in Japan. Or at the very least, it should’ve ended with Ash heading to the airport.
I actually made a fix it fic on Ao3 after finishing the show to help process my feelings about it. It’s called We’ll Be Safe Now. It’ll make you feel better about what happened.

I love that my precious boys are smiling! I've waited so frickin' long for them to have their happy ending! I'm glad that Duel Links is repairing the ending to Arc-V.
I'm so excited for Ruri to come into Duel Links and to see her and Yuto interact. I need more of Yuto's blushing sprite in my life!

Overanalyzing High School Musical 3
One of my guy friends and I watched High School Musical 3 together, and we both have a habit of pausing every 10 seconds to analyze what's going on. We both like to overanalyze characters and find interesting things about their personality/development, whether it was intended by the writers or not.
I found myself projecting onto Gabriella, and it started with me explaining to him about the relatable feeling of existential dread and not wanting to grow up. But then it spiraled into me explaining to my guy friend about "feminine rage" and the girlhood experience of growing up.
His reaction? He's a good listener, and I think he found what I had to say interesting. And that's more than I can say for most other boys I know. Then again, the fact that he loves High School Musical as much as I do probably makes sense.

Leopika Symbolism
Tumblr media
Not enough people mention this, but the symbolism/parallels in Leorio in Kurapika's relationship is incredible. So you know how both of their backstories are really depressing, with how they both lost their best friends and people that they care about and felt helpless? How their main goal was inspired by their survivor's guilt?
We learn in Phantom Rouge that Kurapika left his village to find a doctor for Pairo's eyesight. Early on in HxH, we learn that Leorio tried to find a doctor for his best friend who was fatally ill.
It's just so poetic that Kurapika ended up finding a doctor in the end; it wasn't the way he intended, nor at the right time, but it was what he needed. Someone who could stop his self-destructive tendencies by healing him physically and emotionally. Kurapika found the doctor he needed, and Leorio found a new best friend (and possibly more) that this time, he had the chance to save. Leorio and Kurapika may have lost their best friends, but their journey led them to each other. And I think that's really beautiful.

Hear me out: I think my favorite kinds of series/movies are the ones that are depressing but have a happy ending.
Because happy shows with happy endings are predictable.
Depressing shows with depressing endings leave me unsatisfied even if the ending is done well.
And happy shows with depressing endings are the same.
I think for a well written story you have to have enough trauma and pain in there to get in your character development and stuff, but you also don't want to leave your audience too disappointed by the end. Plus, the emotional whiplash and range you get when you have humor in a depressing show/movie is amazing.
Example: Kingdom Hearts 2 starts with the hella depressing prologue with Roxas and how he and the player slowly learn that his life is a lie, his existence meant nothing, and coming to terms with his death. (With the metaphor for death being his summer vacation ending!) In the EXACT SAME GAME, we get:

Yeah, you get the point. The emotional range in Kingdom Hearts is incredible.

THIS SCENE RAISED MY STANDARDS FOR ROMANCE SO HIGH
Tumblr media
The fact that Yuki noticed that Machi was uncomfortable and just casually broke it for her??? While looking like he was doing work? I know this is just raising my already unrealistic expectations of men and making it worse but still! THIS SCENE.

Basically Yuya and Yuto's dynamic:
Yuto: Has been traumatized by war, lost his girlfriend, doesn't have a home, and is literally fused inside another guy who won't listen to his REASONABLE anger toward the duelists who KILLED HIS PEOPLE.
Yuya: "I can fix them!"
In all seriousness, I'm strangely passionate about Arc-V and how I would make things better. Yuto's the real hero here. Yuya's so insensitive to the XYZ characters and gaslights Yuto into thinking that he's the unreasonable one for wanting revenge against Duel Academy. You know, the people who committed mass genocide.
