Actually crunchyroll couldn't air several openings because of copyright reasons!!! There actually are unique openings that fit the arcs much better tonally. Its a shame cause theyre actually some of my favorite openings in the series.
Sabaody arc Opening
Impel Down arc Opening
Marineford arc Opening
One thing I really wish the producers did was give One Piece more opening songs….like it’s so fun listening to this happy, fun, lively song while watching Ace getting lead to his execution…which is inching closer and closer with each episode.
READ THE ROOM😭😭
IM STRESSED OUT!!

It's okay, Jinbe passed the vibe check, and there's nothing as reliable as a Luffy vibe check.

The thing that Iva doesn't know is that Luffy is perfectly aware how strong Warlord and Admirals are, and he just doesn't care.
I've talked a little about the hope Luffy brings to the hell of Impel Down, but I'm not sure that's a strong enough word for how Luffy goes about doing things. His resolve is so strong it doesn't let in room for any sort of doubt or scenario where he doesn't succeed. He will become the King of the Pirates, he will save Ace. There is no alternative, because he'd rather die than fail, but even as he runs face-first into poison he doesn't think about dying because he still has to save his brother. Luffy's built this reality around himself where there really is no other option, and I think that's the key to the feeling that Iva is experiencing now, something that's so intense that it becomes tangible. I also see it as the key to Luffy's charisma and the reason why he has Conqueror's Haki, and it's built on this foundational aversion to regret.
This unshakable belief allows Luffy to move mountains, but without a grounding force like his crew it leads to the increased recklessness we've seen in him since Amazon Lily. There's no universe where Luffy is strong enough for Marineford, but through sheer bullheadedness he's almost able to pull it off. And at the end of the day Luffy wouldn't have been able to live with himself if he didn't at least try.

I've always thought Inazuma had a really cool devil fruit for how minor a character they are

Another thing we don't talk about nearly enough is that Luffy absolutely has some serious tendencies to self-destruct, ESPECIALLY if he's alone. The scene of him repeatedly slamming his head into the ground on Sabaody after Robin disappears is ingrained in my fucking psyche.

Now, let me tell you something that I noticed and that is gonna wreck you, just like it did me.
Shanks was Luffy's first friend and taught him friendship
Luffy before Shanks was a lonely child. We do not see him much before Shanks, but what we do see is quite lonely.
We Only see him interact with the adults of the village. He doesn't have kids to play with.
So when Shanks goes and calls him a friend, you can see how it touches him deeply in the panel. It's soft and discreet but it's beautiful.
And I think it's when he thought "Oh. That's what I want. I want friends"
Tumblr media Tumblr media
JUST LOOK AT HOW MUCH IT MEANS TO HIM.
He obviously already cared about Shanks, given he defended him earlier in the chapter.
But I'd argue it was a question of what Luffy knew. What Garp, technically his only family, taught him. It was a question of honor and being strong.
You can see how Garp treats Luffy when he comes around. And as a young lonely child, Luffy only knows this.
He respects and thinks of Shanks as a mentor, and his grandpa taught him that to advance in the world you must be strong. In his misguided ideals of strength he went and defended him.
And then, Shanks declares him a friend. He sets himself at the same level as Luffy, and says ' Whatever you do, even if it doesn't please me. I don't care because we are friends and that's what Friends do.'
Not only does he defend Luffy, but he also sacrifices his arm without a second thought.
LIKE I GET why that changed Luffy's life.
Luffy who has an absent grandpa, no parents, who is a lonely, friendless child. Luffy who we only see interact with adults of the village who, even if they like him, still have a sort of responsibility to care for him.
Luffy now has a friend who doesn't owe him anything.
What does he see from that friend? Sacrifice, generosity.... An arm, a hat. Just endless, love.
Yet still honest and strong in his own personnal belief ( as we see early in the chapter when he refuses to take him on his adventure. He would love Luffy with him but believes that a child cannot come on the seas.)
Which, I don't know if you've noticed, but is how Luffy is with everyone from that point on! Anyone who is a friend, and anyone who he wants to be his friend, he gives them everthing he has.
Just like Shanks showed him.
So yeah that's all I wanted to say. Shanks taught Luffy how to be a man, a pirate but also a friend.

something which never fully leaves my mind is the scene where garp punches marco in marineford, and how they parallel each other in that moment.
garp’s involvement in ace’s death is regularly summarised as omission; he sat and watched it happen. however, him punching marco turns his involvement into something much bigger. that small moment means garp wasn’t guilty by omission, he was guilty in an active way. an abettor. garp helped kill ace not just by doing nothing, but by voluntarily and violently stopping an effort to save him. and that was shown through marco which i always found so interesting.
garp is a man who chose his job and professional affiliation over his family. marco is a man who values his family over everything and ultimately ended up retiring as a result.
in that moment when marco was depicted racing towards ace with tunnel vision, there is no world that could’ve made him anticipate garp as an obstacle in his path. marco values family so preciously that for a moment it became a flaw- not realising ace’s grandfather would value family any different.
garp, directly after, commented how if whitebeard & co ‘want to get past him, it’ll be over his dead body.’ promptly followed by ace putting his head on the ground and saying he doesn’t want to die. he heard his grandad loudly threaten his loved ones that he will personally ensure his execution will be carried out.
marco and garp parallel each other so horrifically in that moment. marco was punched to the ground after rushing towards ace, and after noticing his pops’ health concerns from across the battlefield, that moment of weakness allowed him to be shackled in seastone.
garp punched marco to the ground, and unflinchingly threatened that he will fight anyone who tries to save ace, and simply gritted his teeth while ace cried that he still wanted to live.
family is both of their weaknesses, and we see two sides of the same coin in their short altercation. marco’s protectiveness is directly to his own detriment (and indirectly to his family’s as he can no longer defend them in the aftermath of momentarily losing his edge). garp’s passiveness is directly to his family’s detriment (and indirectly to his own due to the mental torment he inflicts upon himself in opposing them, furthermore losing them).
they are action and inaction, protectiveness and passiveness. they have a shared, main weakness of family in exactly the opposite ways. it is so interesting to me

A Future Beyond War Starts With You 💙
My name is Naser. War took everything from me—
my mother, my sister, my home, and the life I once knew.
In a single moment, my world was shattered,
leaving behind only memories and the weight of loss.
But even in the darkest moments,
I refuse to give up. ✊
Because I still have something worth fighting for—
my three younger brothers.
🔹 One dreams of becoming a doctor 🩺—to heal others so they don’t have to suffer like we did.
🔹 Another wants to be an engineer 🏗️—to rebuild what war has destroyed.
🔹 And the youngest? He just wants to be a kid again 🧸—
to wake up in a safe home 🏠,
to laugh, to play, to feel peace.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
🏡 We need a home. We need education. We need hope.
Right now, we are not just fighting for survival—
we are fighting for the chance to live, to grow, to dream again.
We are fighting for a future where my brothers
can become the doctor, the engineer,
and the child who gets to have a childhood.
💙 This is where you come in.
I’m not asking for much—just a chance.
A chance to rebuild.
A chance to give my brothers a future beyond war.
Your support—whether through a donation or simply sharing our story—can make all the difference.
Even the smallest act of kindness can create ripples of change. ✨
🙏 Will you help us rebuild?
Together, we can prove that war doesn’t get the final word—
hope does.
Thank you for standing with us. 💙✨

🕊️ Please Take a Moment to Read Nadin’s Story
My name is Nadin. I never imagined I would write something like this. I’ve always been someone who kept her worries quiet, someone who believed that even the hardest days could be endured with patience and faith. But right now, I am reaching out — not because I want to, but because I need to.
I am a wife, a mother, and one of many women in Gaza trying to survive days that feel like they have no end. There was a short time — a brief ceasefire — where we thought things might start to heal. Where the sound of war faded for just long enough to let us breathe. But that moment is gone now, and the fear has returned louder than before.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My days are filled with uncertainty, and my nights with prayer. We have lost so much. Our home was damaged, our sense of safety taken from us. But through all of this, I try to keep going. I try to hold on to what little peace I can create with my hands, my words, and my love.
I am not asking for much. Just a little help to keep our lives from falling further apart. To fix the small things — a cracked wall, a leaking roof, the pieces of daily life that help us hold on to dignity.
This campaign isn’t just about survival. It’s about holding on to what makes us human in a place that keeps trying to take that away. It’s about showing my daughter — even though I won’t mention her name here — that the world didn’t forget us.
If you’ve ever felt powerless in the face of suffering, please know that even the smallest gesture can carry great meaning. A kind word. A shared post. A quiet donation. These things remind us that we’re not alone.
I am still here. Still holding on. Still believing that people out there — people like you — still care.
Please, if you feel moved, consider supporting or sharing this campaign.

Something I appreciate about Luffy and Vivi's moment on Drum Island when Vivi calls him out is that Luffy immediately gets it AND it makes sense that he does. I think he saw some of Shanks in Vivi in that moment, a different flavour of the same thing: pride doesn't matter, protecting your friends does. Don't escalate a situation unnecessarily.
He needed to learn that lesson but he was also already primed to learn it. This is why chapter 1 is so so so important.
And I really appreciate One Piece for not insisting on forcing the characters to go on a whole arc to learn a lesson even when it shouldn't be that hard for them. Luffy didn't need to have it demonstrated to him why Vivi was right, he's got enough wisdom of his own to understand, he just needed to be called out.
Of course this later backfires when Iceberg does it in Water Seven. Luffy tries to take it to heart but it goes very wrong. That's where we did need a whole arc, for both Luffy and Usopp, and frankly the whole crew as a whole. (I have complicated feelings about the conclusions but that's maybe just a me thing, and it still works very well in the story)
There are not that many moments of character growth for Luffy in One Piece, and even the stuff that's there is subtle (and I think that's a GOOD thing, for the record, Luffy's purpose in the narrative isn't primarily about his growth but the change he inspires in others) but when he has them they're so well done and hit so hard. Even the smaller moments like the one with Vivi.
I'm firmly of the opinion that Luffy actually didn't need to learn that much, he just needed experience. He's a bit of a dumbass, but he understands the important things, he has his priorities in order, and that genuinely makes him wise beyond his years.
Even in Water Seven I would argue that a lot of the problem stemmed from Luffy struggling to handle the pressure and the distress he was feeling. He decided to act in a very un-Luffy-like way (hiding his feelings) to try to cope with the stress, and it didn't go well. He was trying to be more mature and went about it the wrong way. He needed to find a more Luffy-ish way to be mature, and he did.
This got a bit rambly but I hope my points came across
