Lhon: Dega: The locals call this monument Lhon: Dega, meaning Stone Temple. Built in around Malla Era, the interior of this monument is made of stones while the exterior is made of bricks, thus the name. Children in the days of yore used to play guchha and climb up the stairs. However, there is no deity inside the monument, there used to be a sculpture of Shesh Narayan but it no longer exists now. Swayambhunath Temple: The Swayambhunath Temple premises suffered damages after the April 25th #nepalearthquake. Some monasteries and Anantapura, an iconic Shikhar-styled temple similar to one you see in the left of the photo collapsed. But the stupa and other temples in the area are still standing and this view is still as it is, once you enter the premises from the western corner. The stupa is also one of the oldest stupas of the valley. Want to help #Nepal recover from the earthquake? Come here for a vacation! #Tourism employs millions in Nepal. Layaku Restaurant: The buildibg that houses the famous Layaku Restaurant of Mangalbazaar is originally a guthi chhen of Bhaidega, the white temple whose restoration to its original form was about to start when the earthquake occured. The buildibg was last renovated in the 90s, probably, along with Patan Museum, based on the sketches of Oldfield, a British Resident in 1800s. The Shrestha's Home: This old house built after the nabbe's earthquake is where I have lived for the large part of my life. The story is that my grand father used this house as a warehouse. He was a trader (most likely in Tibet) and a metal utensil merchant. Apparently, he built this house from the 'Rs. 300' British Aid that was given to people after the earthquake of 1934. My grandmother moved her family to this house after my grandfather passed away. This house came in her bhag after the property was divided into shares among five brothers. My dad, mom, bhai and I lived in this house till six years backwhen we were forced to move out when cracks started appearing during the demolition and construction of the old home next doors. It took us years to get used to not have new road noise punctuating our lives and get used to the quiet of suburba area of Lalitpur.
