Just another blog about HaruChika a.k.a. that weird mystery anime/novel with a hilarious and odd love triangle featuring love rivals "flutist tomboy" Chika (♀) and "hornist Holmes" Haruta (♂) who pine after their "mysterious conductor/club advisor/teacher" Kusakabe (♂) who literally has no idea they're after his hot ass.

I am very close with the saxophone and clarinet players in the band at the middle school I work at. The students gave me a big surprise today with a Haruchika poster! They gave it to me because they knew I liked Hashimoto Kanna and have seen the film.
It’s moments like these that reinforce how lucky I am to have such a wonderful job that I love. As you can see, the poster now hangs in my apartment.

…I’m sorry to hear you didn’t like it. Though I can’t say I’m surprised given the source material. HaruChika is based on a mystery novel series, each volume containing several short stories. The novel is 100% about mystery solving, and the kids just happened to be brought together by the band. It’s really more of a background thing. There is an overall story… but the novel series is far from finished. This is why the plot with the teacher doesn’t feel resolved.
The novel is actually pretty good and entertaining though as a mystery story. It’s just not very suitable for adaptation.
overall thoughts on haruchika so far? personally i wasn't a fan. just seemed like a cross between hibike and hyouka, both of which are far better (flawed as hibike is) so i may as well just watch them.
haruchika had no overall story and it felt like it was written by someone who didn’t actually give a shit about band geeks or our unique state of being. :| thanks for sending the ask

First 'Haruchika' Anime DVD/BD Release Trailer arrives
First ‘Haruchika’ Anime DVD/BD Release Trailer arrives
Funimation is getting the marketing moving for another of their upcoming releases with the May 16th, 2017 debut of Haruchika as an anime DVD/BD combo. The set is going to be in its original Japanese language with English subtitles only and will include the clean opening and closing sequences as the only extras. Ahead of that, they’ve now launched their first trailer to showcase the show and get preorders rolling in for it.
The series adapts the Haruchika series of novels from Sei Hatsuno. It stars Sarah Emi Bridcutt as Chika Homura, Souma Saito as Haruta Kamijo, Natsuki Hanae as Shinjiro Kusakabe, Seiichiro Yamashita as Keisuke Katagiri, Haruka Chisuga as Miyoko Narushima, Nobunaga Shimazaki as Maren Sei, Asami Seto as Naoko Serizawa, Nobuhiko Okamoto as Sakaiyu Hiyama and Yuki Yamada as Akari Goto.
Haruchika was directed by Masakau Hashimoto based on scripts and composition by Reiko Yoshida. Namaniku ATK handled the original character design and Asako Nishda worked on the designs for the series. The work is based on the novels that began in 2008 with four out so far and a fifth in the works.
Plot concept: Haruta and Chika are members of their high school wind instrument club that is on the verge of being shut down. The two are childhood friends, and they spend their days practicing hard while also trying to recruit new members. When a certain incident happens within their school, they work together to solve it.

I don’t get anon’s logic either.
In the first place, the movie was made in order to draw in new fans (i.e. more people who buy the original novels)… Therefore the more people who see it, the better. People with no background in Haruchika are totally welcome to see the movie and have an opinion about it.
Why are you posting your opinions on the Haruchika movie if you never experienced the manga/movie? You're ill-fit to give an opinion. Why would you see it anyway?
Why’d I see it? Because I adore movies and it looked interesting!
By your logic, the only people who can see Haruchika are people who have enjoyed it in other mediums.
Also, as far as I know, it’s not really too similar to the manga or anime. So… who cares? Honestly.
Lastly, you wrote “manga/movie” when I believe you meant to write “manga/anime.”
#movie#imho the movie is aimed at fans of sato shori and hashimoto kanna#rather than existing fans of the novel#it's the same with the anime/manga#the anime was aimed at boys#and the manga runs in a shounen manga magazine

Just a clarification:
I’ve only watched the anime, and that spent way more time solving mysteries than on the actual band. Which was odd, but probably to try and hold off Hibike Euphonium comparisons now that I think of it.
It’s not. The anime was relatively faithful to the novels series, which started in 2008. It’s a mystery novel with very little focus on music. The band competition is more of a background plot thing. In fact, both the anime and movie have more music scenes than the actual novel (lol).
BTW The Hibike Euphonium novel was published in 2011. So it’s just a coincidence that the HaruChika anime started after Hibike’s.
Oh, so the HaruChika movie was more focused on the band aspect? I've only watched the anime, and that spent way more time solving mysteries than on the actual band. Which was odd, but probably to try and hold off Hibike Euphonium comparisons now that I think of it. That said, I enjoyed the series a lot so I'm looking forward to the movie :D
Yeah, the movie was solely focused on the band and the friendship between Haruka and Chika!
Actually, they never really solved any mysterious throughout the entire film. I didn’t even know that was a part of the story. I don’t know what Hibike Euphonium is, but it seems like Haruchika is different from that.
I think fans may like the film, but again it wasn’t amazing. It was just nice.

I saw the Haruchika Movie!
It was alright. Shori Sato and Kanna Hashimoto had great chemistry as friends. I emphasize that they were friends as this is not a romance movie. The story was about Haruta (Sato) and Chika (Hashimoto) working together to get a school band together and the students growing together as they approach their big concert.
The film greatly falters with focus and characterization. While Haruta and Chika are decent, the rest of the cast is not as deep. Moreover, the plot is simple but very sloppily told.
That being said, the film was pretty alright. Nothing spectacular, but it really emphasized the themes of friendship and music. If you have ever played in a school band then I think you can relate. There are some great shots too with one important scene taking place in a single, uncut shot. The humor isn’t bad either.
There was one touching scene that really moved me, but over all, the film isn’t spectacular. It’s good for what it is. A solid 5 or 6 out of 10.
I should also note that I have never read the manga or seen the anime.
