I live in Tel Aviv. I live in Tel Aviv, about 3 minutes away from the place where terrorist killed two Israelis

Yesterday was my parents’ first date anniversary so they went to the restaurant. I decided to invite my friend over. Whole house just for ourselves, you know. We were chilling, just talking and having fun when we heard shots and screams. We exactly knew what happened because this is our reality - the reality of every Israeli. When you live here you know how it looks like. But we panicked. I started calling my parents but at first they didn’t answer. I panicked more. My hands were shaking so hard. After a few tries they finally picked up the phone. Fortunately they were far away from the place of the terrorist attack. They were asking if me and my friend were okay, if we are safe. Fortunately we were. Fortunately my parents were also safe. Fortunately my friend’s family was also safe. But so many Israelis weren’t. Two of us lost their lives yesterday. May their memory be a blessing.

Then we heard sirens. My parents came back home about 40 minutes after. My friend’s mom called her to ask if she was safe. She also asked if her daughter could stay overnight. She didn’t want her to be outside. My friend stayed with us for night and today her dad picked her up.

That night was the scariest moment of my whole life. I have never been so terrified as I was then. And still I am. We all are. Scared for us, our families, and friends. If you don’t live here, if you don’t experience the fear we experience keep the whole conflict out of your mouth. Just shut the fuck up and realise how huge privilege you have to life in an area where your life is not all the time in danger.

I know I’ve said the next part of it would be short but then I decided to rewatch Encanto (for the 182628th time) and wrote down all of the things I was be able to notice about Colombia and my culture and yeah it turned out there is so much more to say and I may do part 5

Once again I want to say that I know that some of those things can also appear in other cultures but please avoid comments like “it’s not Colombian thing it’s [here a country/ethnicity] thing” etc because now we are focusing on the Colombian aspects of the movie plus such comments make me uncomfortable

I would also be grateful if you could avoid commenting about Raya and how you are mad because Disney disrespected your culture and how they only cared about Colombia and not South Asia. I understand you are mad and you have absolutely right to be but please don’t do it under my post

I have this Encanto headcanon about Bruno, Dolores and Christmas

So I think Bruno loves Christmas. He loves the atmosphere, he loves praying the novena and in general praying with his family, he loves the Christmas dinner

And when he left he was still celebrating it. When the rest of the family was eating the Christmas dinner together he was sitting behind the walls and eating with them, when they were praying he was praying with them, when they were singing he was singing with them (well he was more like whispering to himself) - obviously no one knew, only Dolores

So she started visiting him on Christmas. After the Christmas dinner she was coming to him, they were eating all of the leftovers, praying together. And she was doing it ever year. And Bruno loved that

so yeah that’s it I got myself into the Christmas mood after I read that there may be an Encanto Christmas special

Encanto characters and how they would act during global pandemic (my opinion obvi)

(also let’s ignore the fact that no global pandemic would ever happen in Encanto because Julieta would cure them all)

Dolores - she would be that type of person who carries a sanitizer everywhere she goes she would also wear double masks I kind of feel like she would panic a lot

Camilo - he wouldn’t really care, he would often forget his mask, he would love online classes tho

Mirabel - she wouldn’t like wearing a mask but she would always wear one because of Julieta, she would love online classes too but only to some time, then she would start to miss going to school

Luisa - she would be that kind of person who thinks there is no way she could get sick because she is just so vital so healthy so strong etc etc but she would always wear a mask (also kind of because of Julieta)

Isabela - she would be responsible about it, always wear a mask, carry a sanitizer but in contrast to Dolores her attitude towards it would be rather normal and healthy

Bruno - well I think he would panic but also he would be extremely happy because he doesn’t like leaving the house and in the global pandemic he could just stay at home all the time and his reason when somebody asks would be “you know we are in the global pandemic I prefer not to risk”

Julieta - the most responsible of all of them of course, she wouldn’t hesitate to get a vaccination, always wear a mask. she would also give the mask away to the people who can’t afford it and she would in general be really helpful

Agustín - he would be just like Julieta, really helpful etc, he wouldn’t really believe it’s that serious but he would never say it out loud

Antonio - he would miss going to school a lot

Pepa - she wouldn’t really care, she would always wear a mask obviously, she would remember about keeping the safe distance but that’s all

Félix - same as Pepa I think

COLOMBIA (obvious one and not that small but I love it, also it’s in the colors of Colombian flag)

wax palms - the palms that grow in Encanto are national trees of Colombia (they are also the highest palms)

there is so much more cultural and Colombian details in Encanto but I am not able to show them all in gifs unfortunately

the flowers that grow on Isabela’s balcony are bugambilias - you can see them mostly in Cartagena de Indias. all of the flora and fauna showed in Encanto is typical for Colombia

all of the villagers (Madrigals also) are catholic - you can see the church and the priest - it’s an important part of our culture and traditions

there is a song called Colombia, Mi Encanto sung by Carlos Vives (I refuse to believe there can be Colombians who don’t know who he is)

so yeah that would be it

I think I won’t be doing more of this because it takes a lot of time and phone storage but I’m really grateful I was able to share those cultural facts about Encanto with more people

important reminder: if you are white (or have light/pale skin in general) and you want to cosplay as any Encanto character with darker skin tone than your own you do not need to paint your skin or/and make it looks darker

I saw so many white people painting their skin to make it looks like Dolores’ and it makes me feel sick please don’t do it

Wallflower

Dolores Madrigal is many things. Overlooked. Lonely. Astute and intelligent. She loves the sound of raindrops falling onto the windows and dripping on the rooftops - it brings her peace when she feels like she can’t do it anymore.

But if you asked her family they would say she is terrible at keeping a secret.

Secrets don’t exist for Dolores - she knows everything no matter if she likes it or no.

She is a wallflower - quiet and observant. But when you know everything about everyone it becomes difficult to keep all of it bottled away. It tends to spill out uncontrollably, randomly in sporadic bursts - words just form themselves on Dolores’ mouth at the dinner table and she can’t do anything about it.

Señora Natália was arguing with her husband earlier today. She said she wanted a divorce. Oh and Juana is pregnant. She is only 15. Her mamá went crazy

Dolores doesn’t know why she does it. A pathetic effort to be seen, perhaps. Pepa gasps and leaning towards her hija she asks her to tell more. To her disappointment Abuela cuts it off

I was speaking to Señora Guzman today. Isabela do you know she has a son your age?

Dolores can feel her heart starting to beat faster. Mariano Guzmán. The boy she thinks of at nights, before falling asleep, the boy she -

Yes I think I’ve met him before in the town. He seemed adorable Isabela’s sweet voice snaps Dolores out of her thoughts

Isabela Madrigal. Her older prima and the oldest Madrigal grandchild. Perfection in every sense of this word. At least this is what the family and Encanto thinks. Dolores feels washed up and dull living in her shadow. Her whole life she has been trying to be useful somehow - like Luisa or Julieta. Even Camilo’s gift is more impressive than hers. She doesn’t understand the point of it. What good hearing the whole town does? For the understanding of our Encanto and its people Abuela says. But Dolores hates her gift. Not only because of the constant and unstoppable noise - she got used to that but because of the fact that people don’t trust her. They are scared she will tell everyone about their deepest secrets. She knows it because she hears them saying it. She sees how they react when she enters a room or when she walks down the streets of Encanto. She somehow finds it funny because no matter how quiet their voices are she still hears them. She hears everything. And she just wishes people knew she doesn’t spill everything
