The CreativeAfricaNexus event happening at the Intra-African Trade Fair in Kwazulu Natal, Durban, South Africa has been nothing short of excellent. Critical discussions around the African creative ecosystem are currently going on and they are indeed are timely and of the utmost importance. I had the absolute pleasure of moderating a critical panel discussion with the theme - ‘Monetizing Social & Digital content’. The panel had @alexokosi @jonsavage @danilo_acquisto @sheldonzam @kizitosamuelsaviour & Leigh Carter. 2 really important things resonated from that session : 1. Audience intelligence - As content creators you need to know and define who your audience are. This is first step on the ultimately monestizing your content. 2. What is your ‘why’ ? - Why is this content you are creating important to you and why are you doing it? Once you can answer this question, it will keep on track and focused. The 10th Anniversary edition of the @afriff kicked off with a celebratory bang last night at the @filmhousecinemas Landmark. Clearly there’s ‘a new sheriff in town’ - @amazonprimevideo and we absolutely love it. It’s another testament to that fact Nigerian and African content by extension, is indeed now and the future. This is huge for our hard working filmmakers that have continually churned out films despite all odds. I like the approach of engaging the industry and having broad conversations about the needs of filmmakers whilst also making their ambitions known. It’s a win win! I also love the idea of doing different kinds of projects and not the regular run-of-the-mill films and shows that have become sort of the standard. There are much more genres to be explored. It’s time to really dig deep and tell resonating stories, taking audio and post production to new heights for once cast away the fear of ‘being like others’ or having ‘FOMO’ because you are not doing what everyone else is doing. I love November because it’s Art season! The biggest Art fair in Africa, @artxlagos has become a mecca for the Arts on the continent. Each year, the fair has showcased some of the most talented artists, curated by some of the best galleries in Africa. This year was no exception. It was nice to see a great showcase of traditional arts with notable and new names. I must really comment on the showcase of digital Art/NFTs - it shows how the Art space is quickly evolving and how vast opportunities are created by this digital medium. There’s much more room for growth and exposure in this space. The video Art showcase made me smile. This is something I’ve been pushing for sometime now and it’s absolutely great to see 2 big Screenings - ‘Iyabo’ By Adeola Olagunju & ‘One Africa, Three Futures’ by @davidalabo @artxlagos ends tomorrow and you should go see the show.
