“megumi,” you sang softly, head tilted like a cat ready to pounce. “hey, megumi~”

he didn’t look up from his book. “what.”

“that was a really dramatic sigh you let out just now,” you teased. “you okay, emo prince?”

he exhaled again—sharper this time. “you’ve called me that five times today.”

“correction: eight.” you twirled a couple strands of his hair. “and i continue to be kind.”

“baby, you’re not.”

“but i could be worse,” you said, eyes gleaming with mischief. “want me to start listing your weird habits? ’cause i have a running list in my notes app.”

“of course you do,” he muttered, flipping a page, still not looking at you. “why am i dating you again?”

you blinked. the grin faltered—just for a second. then you folded your arms and leaned away from him with a pout.

“…rude,” you mumbled.

he finally glanced over, catching the way your lips tugged downward and your shoulders sunk.

“and who started this, baby?”

and just like that—peace shattered. you wouldn’t talk to him for the next ten minutes. maybe fifteen (if you were really dramatic about it.)

“i don’t know how someone so annoying can still expect kisses.” megumi adds. of course, to rile you up.

silence.

you stared at him for a second, stunned. “…i was joking.”

“so was i,” he said, chuckling lightly.

you were still pouting with your back to him. perhaps a bit excessive, but who wouldn't after receiving such a severe threat? (the severe punishment in question is "no kisses." how dare he!)

“mhm, okay baby. you still dont wanna face me?” he said, wrapping an arm around you. “guess i’ll go kiss someone else then.”

you whirled around, eyes wide. “don’t test me. don’t you dare.”

he grinned. “there she is.”

“come and give me a kiss, baby.”

and just like that, you forgot you were ever mad—except you’d absolutely bring this up tomorrow. probably for an hour. again.

panic growing in his chest, nanami looked at the clock. he murmured to himself, "i'm going to be late," and picked up his briefcase.

you fold your arms. "aren't you forgetting something?"

nanami’s expression changes to one of confusion as he raises an eyebrow.

he searches his memory to see whether he has forgotten anything important.

then he realizes something. he approaches you with a knowing smile on his face.

he leans in and plants a slow, intense kiss on your lips without waiting another second.

his lips sweep over yours with a possessive, but gentle, dominance.

his hands glide down to your hips, clutching hard as he intensifies the kiss, his tongue pushing beyond your lips to tangle with yours.

as though he's attempting to commit the taste, the sensation, and the very soul of you to memory, he kisses you as if it were the last time.

nanami starts to back away, but you grabbed his tie and pulled him back toward you with a playful twinkle in your eyes before he could move.

“you're not leaving yet." you said.

your lips met his once again, relentlessly and urgently. as he kissed you back, his hands paused and then moved to your waist, the warmth of your breath sending a shiver down his spine.

“seriously, honey," he whispered between kisses, his mind screaming that he was already running out of time. "i really have to go."

you weren't listening, though. you made it hard for him to break away as you intensified the kiss and slid your fingers up to his shirt collar, pushing it open.

his warm breath ghosts over your skin as he briefly breaks the kiss and then trails his lips down to your neck.

he attempts to collect his disorganized thoughts and recall the reason for leaving.

he sighs, "darling, I—I really have to go," in a strained voice. "this is just making it worse. i'm gonna be so late."

you smiled, finally releasing his tie, your fingers lingering on his chest. "i’ll be here when you get back," she whispered, her voice full of promise.

he nodded, gave her a final, lingering kiss and withdrew.

her laughter followed him as he eventually left the room. (yes, her lipstick stains are smudged all around his lips. but he doesnt have to know that)

he leaves smiling and with a day that would be difficult to concentrate on.

megumi, still stubbornly facing away from you, huffed a small sigh before reluctantly facing your way.

"are you done sulking?"

"yes, i'm done sulking," he admitted, his voice low and sincere. "in fact, i think i've been teased long enough. now, give me my kiss please."

“just… reading,” you say, holding up the book. it’s upside down.

for one horrible moment, you’re sure he’s going to check the closet.

it’s nearly 3 a.m., and you find yourself waking up alone in bed. with a sigh, you realize nanami must still be working, pouring over those endless papers.

quietly, you slip out from under the covers and tiptoe down the hallway, where you spot the soft glow of his desk lamp spilling out from his office.

peeking around the door, you see him—head bowed, brows knit in concentration, completely lost in his work.

you can see the fatigue in his eyes, the slump in his shoulders, and it tugs at your heart.

without a word, you step inside and walk up behind him, wrapping your arms around his shoulders.

he startles just a little, and then looks up, his expression softening when he realizes it’s you.

“come to bed,” you whisper, brushing your fingers gently across his back. “you’ve done enough for today.”

nanami hesitates, mumbling about the work left to do, but you only smile, guiding him to stand. “shh, it’ll keep until morning.”

back in bed, he nestles into your arms, finally letting his exhaustion take over.

you hold him close, running your fingers through his hair, feeling his breath slow as he drifts to sleep.

and as he settles, resting his head on your chest, you close your eyes, feeling the warmth of his presence, knowing he’s exactly where he belongs.

“i love you, darling.” he mumbles.

“i love you more.” you say as you kissed his forehead.
