I just gotta say thank you so much for defending dubbing, it's really a form of art in of itself and it can very much make for a great experience!
People who refuse flat out to listen to dubs honestly don't know what they're missing but also all this talk of dubs does remind me of one of my favourite lines from the wano arc of one piece and its completely down to how the English va delivers it like just listen
As someone who is very passionate about translation and about to start an MA in Japanese translation this fall:
THANK YOU.
The subs vs dubs argument annoys the hell out of me. You’re completely right and you should say it
(Also, I love your art)
People seem to forget that dubbed animes aren't the same as they were 20/30 years ago when the people making them were less likely to have ever watched an anime before and just tried to treat it like any other western cartoon - the people making dubbed anime today are fans of anime, they're treating it more professionally as it's being taken more seriously they don't deserve to have their work dismissed just bc the people dubbing pokemon had to call a rice ball a donut back in the early 00s so they wouldn't confused the poor little white children who had never seen rice before
moderately intimidating but I'm mad about it or I'm moderately intimidating bc im mad? Either way funny how many little cats I got I guess you all are just kinda intimidated by me
actually i prefer mexican dubs to american english dubs because they're more faithful to the Japanese script (usually)
My friend you have missed the point doesn't matter if you are watching sub or dub or reading the manga unless its in the og Japanese your getting a translation English Spanish Portuguese Irish they're all very different from Japanese they all change things to make it make sense its also good to point out that it's not one translator for one language there are multiple people whose job it is to translate and they also deserve to be rated on their own merits anyway if you enjoy the Mexican dub over the American English good for you you don't have to try and justify it just enjoy the show how you enjoy it
But also yeah stop disrespecting professional voice actors just bc they don't sound exactly the same as the original language cast or bc you've not listened to a dub in over 20 years your not impressing anyone
The fact that the dub vs sub argument is still a thing will never not make me want to put my head through a wall bc sure I could go on about how it can be an accessibility for people like myself with dyslexia and adhd or talk about how the people working behind the dubs are also professionals who take pride in their work and deserve to be rated on their own merits and skills but at the end of the day it doesn't matter it just doesn't if you like a show better in dub good for you if you like it subbed good for you if you like to watch both sub and dub at the same time I may start asking questions but I digress just let people watch the thing how they want to watch the thing bc at least they are watching the thing
