Johnny Cash (Johnny Cash At Folsom Prison)
Folsom Prison Blues
I just had to choose the title track from this CD of Johnny Cash performing at Folsom Prison (and singing Folsom Prison Blues) You can hear the crowd cheering, can’t even imagine how it would have been to him come in and do this performance.

Aretha Franklin (I Never Loved A Man The Way I Love You)
Do Right Woman - Do Right Man
It was not easy to choose a favourite song off this CD with so many great songs.

Pulp
Help The Aged
This is a single CD - it’s got 3 songs but I’m guessing we bought it for the title track so not too surprising that’s the one I chose - I love this song.

Merle Travis (The Merle Travis Guitar / Walkin’ The Strings...Plus)
The Sheik of Araby
This was a LOT of Merle Travis to do in one listen - but I did! It was a long drive - his guitar picking and playing is impressive for sure but I’d recommend one small CD at a time.

Aiye-Keta (Third World)
Irin-Ajo
Not sure how this collaboration came about but this CD features Steve Winwood (which probably explains how we discovered it). I like the pipes on this track.

Ame Agari No Samba (Ryoko Moriyama)
this song was one of the few bossa nova tracks and it was my favourite on the CD

To Live Is To Fly
Only Him Or Me
I've listened to this CD way too many times - here's 2 of my favourite verses to speak for themselves:
From 'To Live Is To Fly'
We all got holes to fill / Them holes are all that's real / Some fall on you like a storm / Sometimes you dig your own / The choice is yours to make / Time is yours to take; / Some dive into the sea / Some toil upon the stone
From 'Only Him Or Me'
You're gonna drown tomorrow / If you cry too many tears for yesterday / Tomorrow's half of all you've got / So treat him good, 'cause when I'm gone he'll stay

Counter Culture 21 (Rough Trade)
Big Thief (Change)
My sister and I live almost as far apart as you can with 8 hours difference in our time zones but last year we came together to start the 5 month journey of helping my mother to die the way she wanted. It was emotional, difficult, comforting and, at times, joyful. So, when I woke up a couple of days ago after dreaming that I had died, it was no surprise to me that the people who were there with me in my dream were my mother and my sister, who I love like a sister and a best friend all rolled into one. The dream stayed with me all day, and when I got in the car to drive to work - I put this CD in to find this song come on about half way through. I’m not sure if it is meant to be about death - I think perhaps it’s a song about moving on at the end of a relationship - but it is beautiful and it played for me at the absolutely most perfect time...on a day when I woke up with thoughts of my own immortality and that familiar feeling of loss - I miss you mom xx
