Question for my reverse strawhat crew.

Originally I was only going to have Kunia use one sword, Wado Ichimonji.

I don’t see her as someone who would use three sword style.

But should I have her pick up a second sword?

I’m almost done with Thriller Bark (I know it’s taken me 500 years to do so) but with Zoro getting Shusui and seeing what a power up and how it will effect the story going forward (and the role Shusui and Enma play in Wano)

I don’t want her to put down Wado, so…

Part 2 of I got my co-worker to watch one piece.

But first I had him guess some popular characters. He was guessing if they were friend or foe and what their personality is.

(I have told him nothing of Sabo yet. He was very excited to be told he was right on both accounts)

Oh god what. Thats a foe. He looks like a Pinocchio from my nightmares. I know he’s probably a friend but he’s going to haunt me.

I have convinced one of my co-workers to watch one piece!

We have been playing games where he asked a me who wins 1 v 1 fights or crew vs crew and I’ve given enough background for him to finally decide to watch.

Today I started the game. Showing him a picture of a character and asking him to describe their character to me and if they are friends or foes. Mind you he has watch approximately 1/2 of the 1st episode so far.

My mind says for but so far you’ve told me everyone is a friend (I’ve been telling him how right it wrong he is without to many spoilers!) so I’m going to go friend. But he’s a bada** and I’m guessing he’s like a Warlord or something (he knows about warlords and emperor status not who is who)

That’s a foe! He’s conceded and he thinks he’s the best. Better than he actually is. Defiantly an enemy. And he’s not as strong as he thinks

(“This is Shanks” he was shocked. Me telling him about Shanks is what finally convinced him to watch. “That’s not what I pictured him to look like AT ALL!” He was shook. I had to pull up other pictures of Shanks to help him process.)

That’s a foe. And he looks like he just ripped a gigantic fart. Is that his superpower? The power of gas? Is that his devil food? No that’s not it, devil fruit!

He a friend. He looks like a barbarian. Like he’s super strong and friendly but not the smartest.

I’m going to go friend. She has a sweet face. Ya I bet she’s super sweet and innocent. (I told him that I would text him in a few weeks to ask if he still thinks Nami is sweet and innocent)

Oh he’s… neutral. Not a friend not a foe. He is a bada** to. He’s on a different crew. And he’s strong. 1st mate strong.

She is a friend. I feel like she is on a different crew. I thinks she on that female warlord crew. Who was that Boa? Ya she’s on Boa’s crew. Not first mate but second mate. Ya that feels right. But definitely friends

I'm glad Zoro is continuing to fight in the Spades Save Ace newest post I don't quite know where you're going but I don't want him to lose the nothing happened moment it's his best. You pointed out something important to the crew we knew about to finish thriller bark and go to Sabaody are not ready for the new world!

No it’s really important to me to not take any moments from the crew.

I want Zoro to have that moment with Kuma. I neeed to watch the episode to know how I want to play it. But it’s very important to me to not take any of the straw hat accomplishments from them. Ace and the Soades are there to help not to take the spot light.

At least until after Thriller Bark.

I know where I want this to go. Ace has seen the Strawhats fight a warlord now. He knows how strong his crew was going into the grandline

they weren’t, Ace carried his crew a lot but they also had more members. They also eventually joined the Whitebeards, which saved them in all honesty. Yet he knows Luffy. He’s not going to join another crew, he wants to be King of the Pirates. He can’t do that if he’s under another captain.

But the strawhats aren’t ready. And somehow Ace has to tell them that.

I already know what I want to do.

Ace is going to have a ‘talk’ with Luffy about this while the spades talk with the rest of the crew. Mihar is logical he can talk to Robin, Nami, and Sanji. Skull has a lot of knowledge but is also eccentric, he’s talking to Usopp, Chopper, Franky, and Brook. Deuce though Deuce is talking to Zoro. First mate to first mate.

Now none of the Strawhats are going to back down unless Luffy does first. But they are hard conversations the crew needs to hear which sets us up for Sabaody.

The Whitebeards are suppose to meet up with Ace and the Spades. But with the news of someone’s capture and then Kuma’s arrive any plan Ace or Luffy has kinda flies out the window.

I’m being a little vauge on perlite because most of this will come out in detail in the next update. But I need to watch the episodes to feel them out before I add my two cents in.

But it’s really important that the Strawhats still get to shine. It is their Journey. Ace and the Spades have just hitched a ride (for now) they still get to shine in their own ways and they are changing the journey. But there are certain things the Strawhats need to do. (There is no way I’m taking one of Zoro’s best moments from him)

In the reverse strawhat AU... where is Luffy buried? Ace was buried next to Whitebeard, but maybe Shanks would prefer to take his body to Foosha village.

Okay so I have three ideas

One, He’s buried in Foosha

This is the most likely Senario as it is where Shanks met Luffy. It is the boy’s home and where his family is. Luffy never left the island in this au so he never made friends outside of the island.

This is home.

And it’s heartbreaking that the boy who was always to big for this sleepy island is eternally trapped there. His only adventure and execution walk.

But it’s easy for Ace and eventually Sabo to find him.

Idea 2 monument at Foosha but buried at sea.

Luffy who always loved adventure deserves to adventure forever.

While they honor him in Foosha he’s free.

Idea 3 cremation, Shanks brings the ashes to Laugh Tale.

Luffy was always suppose to be the next king of the pirates. To make it to Laugh Tale. And Shanks is going to make sure he gets there. Even if it’s in a box. Whether someone else claims the title or not, Shanks knows who the second king of the pirates was always meant to be.

Anyone else who makes it to Laugh Tale will know it to.

I’ll probably go with the first idea as it is the most practical but the idea of Shanks keeping Luffy’s ashes with him until Laugh Tale makes me emotional

The Spades save Ace Thriller bark part 3

Im going to push Ace and Deuces arrived back until after Luffy crushes Ora’s spine. After Moria absorbs the Shadows.

I want Ace to show up just in time to see Luffy get trapped in that shadow box.

I want Ace to watch as Moria punches Luffy through the wall and then stomps on him repeatedly.

Ace will lose it. Rushing Moria to get him away from Luffy. He’s about to burn the man to the ground when Luffy emerges from the box.

Luffy tells “This is my fight Ace.” And Ace knows that. Yes both of their crews are at risk but Luffy started this fight. And no one is going g to respect Luffy as a captain if his Big Brother finishes all of his fights for him. Ace knows all of this, and he hates it. He wants nothing more that to roast Moria like a thanksgiving turkey.

But he stands down, and puts his faith in Luffy.

Something much harder to do when Luffy’s crew members start yelling at Luffy about how his body can’t take the strain he’s putting it under, using second and third gear at the same time.

But Luffy does it. He beats Moria. As Moria goes down Ace sees Luffy go flying he shoots up to catch Luffy only to see how small Luffy has become. He’s so small smaller than when Ace first met him. And all Ace wants to do is get him out of here. He lands just as the shadows are released into the sky.

‘Thats it. Luffy did it.’ He thinks as he turns to face the rest of the crew Deuce running over to him. His best friend no doubt coming to check over Luffy and ease Ace’s worries.

But then the sun comes up. And everyone is screaming. Ace watches as the sunlight hits Deuce and he erupts into flames he starts to run forward but fells a sudden heat in his arms and realizes his movement brought Luffy into the sunlight and now his brother is burning to.

He can hear the others screaming for Mihar, Zoro, Sanji, and Robin.

what is happening? Luffy won. The shadows were released. Everyone should be fine! So why was Ace watching the two people he loved most burn before his eyes. He’s a fire man fire should never harm his loved ones.

But then just like that deuce stumbles forward the flames flying off of him to reveal that Deuce is fine. His shadow following him as he continues to run over to Ace. “That was awful. Remind me to never set myself on fire again.” Deuce tries to joke as he comes over and starts looking over the little Luffy in Ace’s arms. But Ace knows him well enough to see the true relief in his eyes that he’s not dead right now.

The cost of Luffy’s powers

The rest of the crew makes there way over with Chopper yelling at Ace to lay Luffy down so that they can get a good look at him. Right as Ace does Luffy reverts back to his regular size.

“Alright who wants to tell me what that-” Ace says gesturing to his little brother’s body. “Is all about.”

“I’d like to know myself.” Zoro confirmed as most of the crew looked between each other. Most of them had never seen little Luffy before.

Chopper explains what Luffy told him about gear three and its side effects.

Usopp voices his worries and concerns about how this is to much for Luffy’s body to handle and how the rest of the crew needs to start stepping up fast.

The Strawhats miss the looks that the Spade’s shoot around to each other. The same question bouncing in all of their heads. This crew is strong, but are they New World strong?

Ace already knows the answer.

Kuma’s arrival

The Thriller Bark Victims Club come over to thank them with Captain Lola proposes to everyone in the group. The group screens their “no” pretty loudly but then she starts pointing at each individual and asking again. She’s largely ignored until she points at Luffy which gets Ace to yell “he’s underage!” At her. (I wonder who else he might be yelling that at in the future)

Her underlings take over offering to “thank them properly” and Nami takes over the conversation once money is involved.

Ace is happy to let her do so until Nami freezes and starts to tell them “there’s another warlord on the island.” Ace tenses as he remembers Kuma’s presence as well.

Thats when they hear Kuma’s transponder sail.

They all turn to look as Nami tells them about Kuma. Ace jumps in as well. He explains that he was fighting Kuma while they were fighting Moria.

They hear every word of the transponder snail. Especially the order “eliminate the Strawhat crew and everyone else on Thriller Bark. Leave no one alive.”

Usopp and Chopper start freaking out. It took everything they had to beat Moria. They are all worn out.

Ace steps forward. “You all run. I’ve got a score to settle with Kuma.” The man had ran his all over this island with neither of them able to land a hit on the other. He could drag this out long enough to let the others escape.

But Zoro steps up right next to him. “I don’t think he’s going to let us leave.” He says as he walks to stand next to Ace. “The rest of you stay back. We’ll handle this.” He’s panting and beat half to death but there is nothing in this Earth that he will let by him to touch his captain and his crew.

Ace is impressed with his loyalty and strength but now isn’t the time for that.

They stand shoulder to shoulder ready to fight Kuma.

When the man disappears.

He reappears behind the Strawhat crew and attacks the Thriller Bark Victims Club. Showing off his power. Ace had already seen what this man could do but the brutality he put into struck such obviously weaker men is still a shock.

Then Kuma is gone again. Appearing behind Zoro and Ace. Both men turn to face the giant.

“Pirate Hunter Roronoa Zoro and Fire Fist Portagas D. Ace. Should I start the extermination with the two of you?”

I honestly find it kind of funny that when you read the novels for Ace we find out that Deuce left home because of having bad grades in medical school and instead was wanting to be a writer by adventuring out to sea. Yet in some twist of fate he ends up being a doctor anyway

Honestly I have mixed feelings about this.

Because it is both funny but also sad and sweet at the same time.

He was a medical school drop out. He left his family, his past, his name, even his face behind because of the disappointment his family had in him and his dream. I’m sure he has a lot of hurt feelings tied to the field of medicine. Especially if his family were doctors, they don’t seem to be the kindest people to him.

I’m sure he left because he felt he could never measure up. He could never match them in skill. Never live up to the expectations and never be excepted for dreaming something different.

So he leaves it all behind to chase his dream.

And almost immediately dies.

If Ace hadn’t arrived of Sixis could Duece have found a way off?

But that doesn’t matter because Ace comes. And sure it’s a rough start but in the end Deuce leaves with the person who will change his life (whether you see them as romantic or not Ace changed his life forever) even giving Masked Deuce his new name. And he gives him the opportunity to chase his dream. To seek adventure and write his novel. And Deuce has to be so excited

But being a pirate is dangerous. People get hurt. And suddenly Deuce is in a position where instead of knowing the least about Medicine he knows the most. And that has to be terrifying for him. He’s a medical school DROP OUT he shouldn’t be trusted the patients! And yet here Ace is trusting him with his life and the life of their crew.

It has to be equal parts touching and terrifying to have that trust. Trust he feels like he can’t live up to. His family never would have believed in him like this, and yet they were also right not to do so. (In his point of veiw) a drop out should have patients.

Yet when they join the Whitebeards he is put under Marco in the medical division. If he was truly a failure as a medic they would have moved him. So either his skills improved with the Spades to the point where he only needed some guidance from the Whitebeards or he was never truly a failure he felt he was in the first place. And maybe he just needed a different environment to learn in. Maybe the Whitebeards were better at teaching then his previous school. But either way there has to be so much resentment and self doubt in that field.

But also he left being a doctor behind to be an author. It’s his dream. Yet he puts it on the back burner for Ace. For their crew(s). I’m sure he still writes but that’s not his title on the boat. Imagine if Zoro’s goal was to be the world’s greatest swords man but he was known as the watchman because of how much time he spent in the crows nest. If that’s the only way the crew referred to him. How enemy’s saw him. Not the swordsman of his dreams but the job he did for the crew. It’s hard to sacrifice for the people around you. Especially with something that Deuce must have trauma with.

It’s so fascinating and I wish more people would dig into him. He’s a great doctor. But his history with it and his conflicting dream make him fascinating to me.

Amazing job as always!!

Its been a while since I last made one, but here is my design for Iceburg in @one-idea 's reverse strawhats AU.

At 35 he is mostly similar to his canon appearence. His clpthes are made to look like a secretetary or an assistant rather than a mayor, since that's his job here.

At 38 and 40 he went back to that nice shipwright wibe from when he was younger. I feel like he would wanna go back to his roots. Speaking of roots, he swoly goes grey and also gets more wrinkles as time goes on. And thats all due to being the only responsable and mature person on this crew made out of bunch of teenagers, a reeinder man, and a goverment chased assassin.

I think his day to day life is something like this:

"Kuina, Rejiu! Stop trying to kill eachother!"

"Hiriluk don't do that shit you'll blow up the entire ship!"

"Ace, don't cook eggs on your tits thats a fire hazard!"

"Nojiko don't kill anyone!"

"Olvia don't say that stuff you're freaking me out!"

"Kaya... actually you're good. Keep going."

This man deserves a raise. (Also the star on his shirt is a memento to Franky. Lose 1 annoying sibling, gain 6)

I'm the same Wado au anon thank you so much for the response I loved reading it, I hope Thriller Bark and the war saga are threatening you well! something I forgot to ask is if you have any ideas about playing into something in the story that interests me, Luffy has the voices of all things do you think he would hear or understand something from Wado especially now that she likes him a lot and will spend a great deal of time near, it would be interesting to think of as it doesn't come to him the same way living things do but messages do get across,, for example I know enough American sign language to get across short sentences because of a deaf coworker. Thank you for indulging me.

I was already planning something like this once the crew is back together in Sabaody. Since Luffy spent the two years apart training his Haki.

I think he can get cage feelings from the sword in the beginning since Wado has a bigger personality. Even as early as Shell town. But at the time Wado was very angry at anyone touching her since she didn’t know that Luffy was taking her to Zoro.

He thinks she either A) dislikes him or B) begrudgingly accepts him as Zoro’s captain. But again he’s not in tune to the sword or knows that it has a full spirit. He’s just going off of the vibe he got when he first touched it.

Pre time skip I think he would only be able to feel her if he was touching her. Which is very rare.

Post time skip he’s got much better at observation and listening to the voice of all things. He can hear her far better. Again he can’t hear everything or hear her all the time. The closer he is to her the clearer her voice is, but he won’t hear her 100% unless he’s touching her. He gets vague feelings and hears certain cry’s/sayings. It’s like listening to people walking by you. You hear snippets of the conversation but not the whole context.

Her devotion to him is both surprising and not. It’s Zoro’s oldest sword of course she would feel like him.

The question is does Zoro know that Luffy can hear his sword? She calls Luffy “their king” because all of Zoro’s swords reflect him in some way shape or form. But Wado reflects his dreams and desires, his heart. And she calls out to Luffy a lot. And I don’t know how he would respond to thinking that Luffy can hear the sword.

Cause youn know Luffy will bring it up casually like “your sword talks funny sometimes”

And Zoro is left to wonder if Luffy heard the whole conversation? Has he heard every conversation?

No he heard Wado call an enemy a mean nickname (probably one he came up with) and then talk about how they had to win for “their king.” He approved of the whole exchange but that the only part he heard.

About the reverse strawhats AU!! I am absolutely in love with it, it's so interesting. I haven't read all the posts yet, but I got a question: what about Garp? In canon, he took a step back in marineford because Ace made the choice to become a pirate, and Ace accepted his coming execution. He didn't like it, but he respected his choice. (Stupid men and their stupid honor). But here, Luffy hasn't even set sail yet! He is still, technically, "innocent" of any crimes other than being his father's son! So how will Garp react to it?

Oh this is so tough!!!

I’m not here in the anime yet, so I can give a better answer later.

But my guess is Sengoku knew that there was no way Garp would let the World Government execute his youngest grandson. Especially when that grandson hadn’t committed any crimes (yet)

Luffy’s execution is so different than Ace’s. Everyone can tell this is wrong. This is a 17 year old with no record and they were going to kill him over his father’s crimes and the hat on his head (and maybe a devil fruit, there’s a lot of reasons for them to want the kid dead) and the public can’t wrap their heads around this.

But we are here for Garp.

I think Sengoku took one look at Luffy and the orders to execute him and knew he had to hide it from Garp of it would never happen.

I think Sengoku has sent him out on some mission in the East Blue. (Garp’s excited because maybe he’ll run into Luffy and convince him to be a Marine before he does anything to illegal, he doesn’t know he’s already locked up in a cell in level seven of Impel Down. This also allows him to pick up Kolby)

I don’t think Garp knows. I don’t think he finds out until the televised execution starts and he’s in one of the blues and knows he can’t get there in time to stop it.

I think this might be what finally shatters the old man’s faith in the Marines. Because how could his friend hide this from him? Who could his co-worker murder his grandson for no reason other than the blood in his veins?

I don’t know if he’d leave the Marines.

If he’d retire

I can’t see him joining Dragon no matter how hurt he is, I can’t see him taking that hard of a turn

I can’t see him as a pirate

Maybe as a liberator. Going to places he knows tha marines are doing wrong and trying to stop them but not fully joking the rebel cause.

Or maybe he just leaves a floats around teaching his brand of justice to the next generation and causing problems for everyone, the government, the revolutionaries, and pirates.

I will have to wait until I see this part in the show. But the circumstances are so different. And Luffy isn’t a criminal yet. So I can’t see him being able to justify his death in any way. And I can’t see him being idol in it or complicit.

I think he has to be removed from play somehow m. I just don’t know what will be the reaction besides overwhelming sadness and grief.

Sorry I don’t have a more detailed answer. Once I get here in the show I’ll take this again.

Are you going to use the designs fans sent you of the reverse strawhats as "canon" in your AU? Or will you change them up a bit?

Yes and no.

I love all the designs that people have sent in and if you want to draw them please do!

I am using a few ideas from the designs that fans have sent in but putting my own twist in them. I have an idea in my head of what each character will look like. If you see them differently I would love to see them.

I’m working on Kaya right now and I’m just making some basic designs that I can use to visualize them in different arcs. Nothing overly fancy.

Here’s the start of Kaya’s reference sheet. I’ve only made it through Drum Island with her wardrobe.

I love her stupidly big hat she’s shown wearing in all of her flashbacks so I wanted to include it. The first two are renditions of her flashback outfits while the second two follow that fit with her more current color scheme.

The actual strawhats, while assigned colors still have a variety of colors in their wardrobes. I want her early wardrobe to reflect her youth and statues as well as the fact she’s not a trained fighter yet.

I love a fancy hat and flowing skirt and it definitely fits her vibe.

I also wanted to show her youth and innocence in her color palette giving her mostly pastels.

@majestickdoodler had some great ideas for her designs. My favorite idea that she had was that Kaya always carried a ribbon on her that was a gift from Usopp. And I love that idea. But I changed it to the necklace she’s wearing around her neck (I hope that’s okay), it’s a ring that he tied a sting around (bonus points if you can guess who the ring belonged to originally)

Kaya was hesitant to take it at first but Usopp said he wanted her to have it because she would have to give it back to him someday. “You can give it back to me once we’re both brave warriors of the sea.”

It’s a promise that they will see each other again. (And they are sickly in love)

But I’m planning to go through each arc and make a spin off outfit for this crew, but that will take me a while.

Im working on Kaya right now and we will see where we go from there.

Heya! I just read your other post and I think that would happen (especially thatch being traumatized) also I've been wondering- what deuces favorite food?

Oh you’re asking me the hard questions now because I don’t know.

I want it to be a meal that is a labor of love to make. Like a ridiculous amount of steps. But also something that is comforting.

I also want it to reflect the fact that Deuce grew up well off. It’s not something everyone has heard of.

Maybe something like handmade ravioli. Cause making pasta from scratch. Getting it to the right thickness. Cutting and preparing. Then Prepping filling. Plus sauce and other veggies that go in as well.

Not the fanciest thing, but not something Ace would have encountered.

And technically difficult to make when you are making the dough, filling, and sauce from scratch. Thats a lot of different skills to have that take a long time to learn and master.

But pasta always makes me happy and it’s a good warm and comforting meal while being fancier than some other options.

I don’t want it to be to fancy that it can’t be made on a ship and I also don’t think Deuce would get comfort from something that is ultra fancy when he left that life behind.

But what do you think? I’d love to know your thoughts.

Okay so I’m almost done with my paintings of Franky and Brook and I have Ace started.

I’m planning to do Sabo and Jinbei

But I’d like to do some other colors too. I just am struggling with picking who and what colors to use as their backgrounds.

The Stray hats have pretty set color palettes and a signature color.

Luffy - red

Zoro - green

Nami - orange

Usopp - yellow

Sanji - sea blue

Chopper - pink

Robin - purple

Franky - light blue

Brook - black/grey

Even Ace (dark orange) and Sabo (dark blue)

I’m struggling to pick a background color for Jinbei. Do we do a blue? Or an orange?

But also Shanks like do I do his red like his hair like that makes sense. Nami’s background is the same color as her hair.

But what color do you pick for Mihawk? Like black? Then I’ll have to use a different color to outline him and he’ll look super different then everyone else
