a small teaser from my pitch for my storytelling class that i drew back in january! the challenge was to establish the premise, the dynamic between the two main characters, and the general tone of the story in as few pages as possible. the art looks a little rushed and i kind of struggled with translating the text from german to english, but i enjoyed the process. my entire pitch ended up being 30+ pages long LOL (which i will never post. sorry)

it's so wild when your parent changes when you become an adult. my dad is very cordial and non confrontational - he regularly helps me with adult stuff like changing the oil or providing insurance tips. he's always smiling when i call him on video and providing jokes when i complain about college

when i was a kid, i would have to tiptoe around his anger issues often, sometimes running quietly past his work table until he got his own place completely separate from our family, locked away for days. every so often he would start screaming in the car and trying to hit me or my brother for talking too loud while my mom attempted to calm him down as he swerved on the road. and now he, smiling, helps me with car insurance.

like oh, this is just who you are when you have power over someone, and this is who you are when you dont have power over someone. no wonder you can have a normal life, friends, work while scaring the shit out of your kids and wife. i see it now. i see why no one would have believed me. that, i think, is one of the core fears of trauma - seeing the outside of it from the perspective of other adults that brushed you aside, and understanding. of course, that understanding gives the opposite of solace; it just gives you more grief with nowhere for it to go

Today, I want to ask that you spare some time and attention for the Shamaly family @familymajed2. They have been fundraising to survive the ongoing genocide in Ghazzah for over a year now. Unfortunately, donations have been exceedingly slow, often stopping for days or even months on end. Because of this, they have yet to reach even 30% of their total goal.

The Shamaly family is large, and includes over 15 children. Some of these children are being taken care of by their aunts and uncles in the family, as their father was martyred, leaving them orphaned. These kids have had to grieve the loss of a parent while suffering through hunger and fear of bombing.

Necessities like food and shelter are extremely expensive in Ghazzah right now, and aid is very hard to come by. The Shamaly family needs your help to get necessities to stay alive. They deserve food, safety, life. I ask you to donate, help them to live and get what they need. Even a small donation can make a difference.

ICE is in Los Angeles conducting raids and arresting families and children on their way to their court dates and raiding workplaces. Trump has called the National Guard in to stop protestors and is spreading a false narrative about violence, raiding, etc. to distract from the fact that ICE is abducting children in a SANCTUARY CITY.

Do not look away, do not be silent. If you or a loved one is detained by ICE, stay silent except to ask for your lawyer. Keep your documents on you. Call legal aid foundations who are standing by.

If you are NOT in LA and want to help, you can contact rapid response networks and ask how to help or donate. Donate to ACLU, the Mexican American Legal Defense Fund (MALDEF), or the Immigrant Defense Project.
