i will always love first year kagehina. you follow tobio & shoyo become partners in their first year, growing stronger each game all the way to nationals. we understand that tobio has always been an incredible setter, but the human side of the game is something he has trouble understanding. making connections isn't what tobio is able to do at that point. shoyo on the other hand isn't as skilled as everyone else, sure he has a natural speed and jumping power, but compared to the "genius" players in haikyuu, shoyo is farther behind. however, their weaknesses go away once they play together. the two of them make each other stronger. they didn't know each other all that well and even started off on bad terms, but in just a few weeks they had a chemistry no one else could deny. it was like they were created to perfectly make up for what the other lacks. they became not JUST a duo but a match perfectly made.

i finished act 1 of wano!!!
i have been waiting to get to this arc since i started my one piece journey and so far I AM OBSESSED!!!! it feels like i have been waiting for this moment since wano was first mentioned in thriller park and again punk hazard.
the flashbacks with ace have been so beautiful!!!! from the first episode with him in it i was a crying mess. the parallels between ace and luffy are so perfect in everyway. literally couldn't have asked for anything better. seeing ace again, even in flashback form, is my favorite part of wano so far. ace is my favorite one piece character and being able to learn more about his adventures makes me so happy, I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!!
luffy has been amazing this arc! keeping ace's dream alive & he's going above and beyond for the people of wano. he's genuinely a kind person. he helps people not because he wants anything out of it or to look like a hero, but because ignoring justice isn't something he can allow. LUFFY IS FOR THE PEOPLE ALWAYS AND FOREVER!

i am loving zoro in wano!!!!! he is SO COOL. somehow he's even more awesome than before. he really fits wano so well. also love seeing law again!!! he's such a cool character and i love getting to see more of him!
the wano lore is so well written, the long history, the time travel, kaido & orochi's dictatorship; all of these things are done so well. i love seeing the story unravel every episode!
i'm excited to see more of the straw hats now that we have them all back in the show. i'm hoping they all reunite soon, i miss seeing then together!! but i also love seeing everyone work on their tasks, slowly getting their plan together!!
OVERALL, I LOVE ACT ONE!!!!! so excited to keep watching and seeing more!

the kagehina parallels saga continues. kghn first starting to count their losses as first years to them being professional players counting their wins in the 1000s is SO BEAUTIFUL TO ME. THEY NEVER FORGOT THEIR RIVALRY FOR A SECOND, IT DIDN’T MATTER THEY WERE IN OTHER PARTS OF THE WORLD, THEY WERE ALWAYS AIMING TO BE ON THE COURT TOGETHER!!! they always had each other in the back of their minds while on their journeys.

it didn't matter that several years passed by, the connection kagehina shared in high school would go on to get even stronger as adults. they are still the kagehina who counted their wins and losses, still the same kagehina who are INSANELY competitive when it comes to each other, and they ARE THE SAME KAGEHINA WHO ALWAYS PROMISED TO PLAY AGAINST EACH OTHER. NO AMOUNT OF TIME WILL CHANGE WHAT THEY HAVE.

since the moment i've started wano and saw ace's impact i have been a MESS!! ace's kind nature gave tama so much hope for the future. he had so many promises and things he wanted to do and one of them was going abck to wano. but even with ace gone, luffy is someone that can carry ace's legacy.
the parallels between ace and luffy are so incredibly beautiful. the flashback to ace saying the same exact thing luffy said was so moving to me. these two brothers are so alike in their desire to help people no matter what. everytime tama sees ace in luffy i start to cry…ace was such a beautiful soul. LUFFY WILL CARRY ON ACE'S DREAM!! LUFFY WILL BE THE ONE TO SAVE WANO!! <3

skip and loafer 72 thoughts
every new skip and loafer chapter gets better and better. i loved kanechika’s opening monologue in the beginning of the chapter, i thought it was a beautiful introduction to shima’s performance!
shima was incredible. frankenstein is one of my favorite novels ever so seeing shima perform as the monster was just amazing to read. from the moment shima first talks about getting the role, we’ve known he felt deeply connected to the monster’s emotions. the shima before was ashamed and upset with his current self but now, standing on that stage performing freely, he’s starting to become the person he always hoped to be.

so much development & care has been put into shima’s character. the writing is so beautiful and realistic. it feels like each chapter is leading us to shima’s fullest potential. i’m so proud of how far he’s come. shima’s performance has opened up so many doors for him to face the problems he’s been avoiding and i can’t wait to see how he pushes forward!

the ending of the chapter made me so happy!!! shima rushing into mitsumi’s arms is SO SPECIAL!!! we’ve seen their relationship start off slow, eventually dating, breaking up, and now shima accepting his feelings for her. it makes me so emotional to see shima acting how he wants instead of trying to act how others would prefer. i’m never getting over this!! it was the perfect ending to a perfect chapter!!!

it’s the best thing ever when you finally give a series you’ve been planning on watching/reading for the longest time and you fall in love with it. you obsess over the storytelling. you find yourself getting so emotionally attached to the characters. every chapter, every episode has you more invested. you genuinely feel like you had been missing out for so long. it feels like you finally found the one series you’ve been waiting to get into. I LOVE THAT FEELING. it’s embarrassing to admit but i love having a new series that takes over my life. i love connecting so deeply with fiction. it’s such a unique way of experiencing life. i hope to always find new media that will transform my world <3

i finished whole cake island!!!
this is so far the best post-timeskip arc for me. i LOVED IT. sanji’s backstory was so well written yet so heartbreaking. i always love the arcs that are centered on the crew’s relationships or show us a different side of their dynamics (ex, water 7, enies lobby, marineford, etc.)
wci was such an adventure! i always liked sanji’s character, but this arc made me fall in love with him. i’ve seen people talk about sanji vs luffy but i finally got to experience it for myself. i thought it was so heartbreaking, but i also loved how it showed the intensity of the straw hats friendship. sanji did what he thought was best for everyone, and luffy knew sanji would never want to live a life away from the crew. it was just beautiful to see sanji decide for himself that he wants to go back on the sunny and how the straw hats did everything they could to save sanji’s family.

sanji’s kindness was a topic throughout the arc, which i really loved. he was taught that his emotions were a weakness, but his mother & reiju believed it was what made him better than everyone else. it was amazing to see sanji become more confident in himself and his choices as the arc progressed. he had a place to call home and people who loved him. it was an emotional experience for me watching wci especially with sanji’s scenes.

big mom as a villain was incredible. she was genuinely terrifying to me. not to mention how she has several loyal followers who also happen to be her children. it added a new level to their loyalty. i thought big mom was crazy, considering her hunger pains and even eating her adoptive family…but she was also very entertaining! it exposed the true strength of an emperor of the sea!
katakuri vs luffy was AWESOME!!! there were a few times i thought the fight went on too long, but overall, i really enjoyed seeing luffy being challenged in a new way. it wasn’t just strength involved in the fight, but also sensing your opponent’s moves.

overall, i really loved this arc. the fights, the storytelling, the plot, the new characters, all of these things were so enjoyable. it’s made it into my top 6 arcs in one piece! i had so much fun watching and learning more about sanji! i think this arc made sanji so much more incredible because we saw just how awful his childhood was, but despite all that, sanji remained kind and caring. he followed his dreams and became stronger on his own, and even found the straw hats who would do anything for him.
i'm so happy i finally got to watch this arc!! it definitely lived up to the hype!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY HINATA SHOYO! <3
from the beginning of haikyuu, shoyo’s weaknesses have always been an important point of the story. we understood he was behind most of the players in haikyuu but despite that challenge, HE NEVER GAVE UP.
hinata shoyo had the courage to keep on growing and learning. he never felt embarrassed when he saw his shortcomings, he never became full of envy, and he never thought for a second that he wasn’t good enough.
shoyo kept on working hard. he even made the big decision to move across the world away from everything he knew in order to become a better player. everything he’s done, has been for the purpose of becoming better.
to me, shoyo is the human embodiment of perseverance. no matter what stood in his way, he never thought for a second about giving up. shoyo is such an inspiration for someone like me.
HE WHO WOULD CLIMB THE LADDER MUST BEGIN AT THE BOTTOM!

one of the best kagehina scenes ever. ever since he was shut out by his middle school team, tobio was always scared he would be alone on the court again. that he would never have someone WILLING to receive his toss. tobio LOVES volleyball and being a setter more than anything and yet, he knew if he wasn’t able to fix his habits he would continue to struggle with teamwork. however, shoyo didn’t care about what happened in middle school. he didn’t care tobio had a bad attitude, or that tobio couldn’t communicate well. all shoyo knew was tobio loved volleyball as much as him. he could care less how tobio was as a person, because to shoyo, no one else in the world is a better setter. so when tobio sets a toss, shoyo runs as fast as he can to receive it. no matter how terrified tobio was that he would be alone again, shoyo breaks through the noise with his presence alone. SHOYO WILL ALWAYS BE THERE FOR TOBIO 😭😭😭😭

sanji vs luffy was DEVASTATING. literally one of the most heartbreaking moments of one piece. the circumstances that led to this fight make it all the more upsetting. sanji is now trapped in a marriage he wants no part of. every single thing sanji holds dear is being used to blackmail him. there truly is no way out but to go along with his family’s wishes.

so when sanji sees luffy running towards him WITH HIS FAMILY RIGHT NEXT TO HIM, what can he do? there’s no way sanji can leave. his hands will blow up, zeff will die, and the straw hats will be killed. all sanji can think to do is fight his captain, hoping that he will leave with the straw hats.
it’s the last thing he wants. after so much suffering, sanji’s finally living a life that he wanted. he found a father figure, learned how to become the best chef possible, and is now sailing the seas with his best friends. everything has been going so well for him, and now it’s all being threatened. fighting luffy is the last thing he would ever want to do. going against the same man who showed him the world and let him be himself without judgement.

BUT LUFFY WON'T GIVE UP ON SANJI. even after being beaten brutally, luffy won't have anyone be the cook on his crew. he'll stay waiting for sanji, promising not to eat anything. THE SAME MAN WHO CAN'T GO A MINUTE WITHOUT FOOD IS PROMISING TO STARVE. the love luffy has for sanji is so strong. he understands sanji so well. from the moment sanji started the fight, luffy knew that wasn't what he wanted. when sanji called the straw hats "miserable, inferior pirates," luffy knew that he didn't mean that. luffy knows just how kind sanji is. after the fight, all luffy knows is that sanji is in more pain than anyone else. this fight shows just how much sanji & luffy love each other, despite how brutal it was. sanji, fighting so the straw hats can live, and luffy, standing tall, saying he won't give up on sanji.

after sanji finds out the truth and makes his way back to the spot, luffy says he'll be waiting. sanji finds a hungry luffy. while sanji is finding it hard to forgive himself, luffy just smiles so happily, glad that sanji found his way back to him. although the fight was brutal, luffy didn't hold any grudges. it shows just how genuinely kind luffy is as a person. all luffy wanted was to eat sanji's food again. even though the food was all muddy and was rained on, luffy ate it like it was the best thing ever.
what i love most about this scene is how, even though sanji said he couldn't go back to the sunny JUST yet, luffy was more than willing to help sanji save his family. it didn't matter that it was a difficult task or meant that sanji wasn't officially a member again; all that mattered was that sanji found his way back to luffy.
sanji and luffy's friendship in this arc was incredible. i loved how, despite their fight, they still cared deeply for one another. they had a lot of obstacles to overcome to become crew members again, but because they truly loved one another, they were able to sail on the sunny again. it broke my heart to see them fighting and how difficult sanji had it in this arc, but i'm so happy that luffy never gave up on him.

since i started whole cake island, i had been waiting to see sanji’s backstory. i always really liked his character and found him to be sweet & silly. but seeing his story in wci made me so much more attached to him. as a kid, he was so kind and compassionate. his love for cooking was always there, even as a kid. he loved his mom and always wanted to make meals for her. he loved animals, even goes as far as to cook for them. these are all such amazing traits that make sanji so much special. however, i had no idea how his kindness would make him a “failure” to his family.

from the moment sanji heard the name vinsmoke in zou, he had been incredibly anxious. watching him be so reserved & angry was so unusual considering he’s always been very happy and caring. but then i found out just how horrible life was for sanji and it made my heart break. being kind would normally be a great trait to have but being in the germa family, it was considered a weakness.
sanji was labeled a failure because he couldn’t perform like his other siblings. he felt emotions, he didn’t have super human strength, and his interest was cooking which was a “peasant” activity. he was abused by his brothers, ridiculed by his “father”, and was constantly belittled. the only times where sanji was treated with decency was when reiju would take care of his wounds and when he could see his mother. every other time was hell.
instead of being treated fairly, sanji was forced to be hidden away in a jail cell with that helmet on. judge didn’t have the decency to treat him like family but because he saw sanji as an embarrassment, he locked him away for no one to see. what makes this worse is, when sanji was able to cool freely away from judgement, his brothers found him and abused him everyday. even in isolation, sanji wasn’t free. he was always going to be treated like a failure as long as he lived in that castle.

it makes me so upset to see how awful life was for sanji. judge was unnecessarily cruel to him. even when sanji had the courage to run away with reiju’s help, judge tells him that’s better for everyone. HE TELLS HIS OWN SON HE’S BETTER OFF AWAY FROM THEM. sanji wasn’t treated like a human even when he was leaving the family. it was like judge lived off of tearing sanji a part.

knowing that sanji WAS able to find people who truly love him makes me feel so emotional. he suffered so much, but was able to meet zeff who became a father figure. cook all he wanted at baratie with his chef brothers. he even found the straw hats, who he now loves more than anything. sanji’s life had meaning and was full of love. yet, even when sanji KEPT THE PROMISE TO NEVER LIVE WITH THE VINSMOKE NAME, his family forced him back home.
this makes me so upset. sanji did what judge wanted. he ran away and never told anyone who he was related to, yet judge didn’t have an ounce of respect to do the same. since sanji isn’t seen as an individual to his family, it’s easy to marry him off. they had three other sons to marry pudding to, yet they chose sanji because he’s easy to throw away. it’s so disgusting.
to make EVERYTHING worse. sanji is being blackmailed in this marriage. if sanji runs away, his hands blow up. if sanji doesn’t marry pudding, zeff will die. if sanji refuses to the marriage, the straw hats wills die. all the things that make sanji who he is are being threatened. what else can he do but to agree? his family had used every possible card to keep sanji as their tool.

it’s just so frustrating to see sanji stuck in the place that caused him so much pain. he ran away like judge wanted. he never mentioned the vinsmoke name or germa 66. HE KEPT HIS WORD. he pursed his passion, he learned from his chef family, and he is now living his best life on a ship with his best friends. everything was going well for sanji and it’s all being ripped away from him.
his backstory is so well written and painful to watch. i can’t believe someone so kind grew up in that horrible castle. it just makes me so proud to see how sanji never lived his life with resentment. he did everything he wanted to and was still loving despite all the trauma. i just love sanji so much!

started my haikyuu rewatch/reread, and i just got hit with the biggest wave of nostalgia. it makes me so emotional to see tobio & shoyo at square one after knowing how far the two made it in the ending of haikyuu. tobio not knowing how to interact with others, while shoyo has to catch up to everyone on karasuno. they both had their flaws and weak points, but the moment they started at karasuno, daichi, suga, and tanaka did their best to welcome them in. watching the members of karasuno start to form their team bond makes me so happy because THAT'S ALL TOBIO AND SHOYO WANTED. KAGEHINA MAY HAVE LACKED IN DIFFERENT AREAS, BUT MEETING AGAIN AT KARASUNO OPENED UP A WORLD OF POSSIBILITIES. KAGEHINA MADE UP FOR WHAT THE OTHER LACKED. it didn't take long for the two to become a duo; it was as if everything they'd been through beforehand had happened so they could meet again. i just can't get over the beginning of season 1 no matter how many times i rewatch or read it.

i finished zou!!
i really loved this arc!! so much information about gol d roger’s crew, learning about the samurai from wano, & finding out that kaido is controlling everything in wano. this was such a short arc but it added so much to the world of one piece which i loved a lot!! it was a lot of fun!

i really wish sanji didn't have to leave but i've been wanting to see his backstory so long i can't help but to look forward to it! i was also sad about the straw hats separating again but it makes me even more excited for wano!!!

i really loved this arc and can't wait for what's next!!

i finished dressrosa!!
this arc was incredible!!! learning about what REALLY is going on behind the scenes of dressrosa was so interesting. I loved how, at first, you are introduced to a country with living toys, tournaments, and smiling faces, only to find out it's all a lie. i always love seeing luffy fight for people's freedom; it's the best thing about one piece for me.

i switched between the anime and the manga because of pacing and animation issues, which i think was the best move. i enjoyed the arc with no problems whatsoever!
one of the best things about this arc were finally seeing sabo again and learning about what he's been doing over the past decade. seeing him reunite with luffy after finally remembering about him and ace was so beautiful. although sabo went through a lot of pain, realizing ace was his brother the same day he died, i'm glad he finally made his way back to luffy. I was so glad that sabo was the one to win ace's fruit; it felt like everything fell into the right place. even though ace is gone, it's like sabo winning ace's fruit was a way to connect all three brothers together.
law's backstory was both heartbreaking and beautiful. corazon thought of him like a son and did everything he could to save him. i really loved how their story was written. these two characters are on my list of favorites so far!! i love how corazon looked terrifying and mean at first, but was a sweetheart who wanted to save law no matter what. law is very resilient for being able to become so strong despite all the challenges he faced as a young boy. just such an amazing plotline!!

GEAR 4 LUFFY!!!!! i have been waiting for this moment for so long, and i'm so glad i finally got to it! it is, so far, my favorite gear; I just love how there are so many components to it! luffy is bouncy yet strong, yet stretchy, yet fast. just so COOL!!! the fights between doflamingo were amazing; i had such a great time watching!

it just makes me so happy to see luffy fight so hard to help people. he doesn't do it for fame, money, or glory, but simply because he wants to help his friends. luffy builds such strong connections so quickly that it's normal for him to do anything to help his new friends. he doesn't think about it or hesitate; he just goes all in.
overall this arc was really amazing!! there are some things i would change, like rebecca's design, and i wish the anime wasn't in such poor quality throughout the arc. i still really enjoyed the story, and i'm glad i finally got to it!

skip and loafer 71 thoughts
WOW. another beautiful chapter. i love where the story is going with shima's character!! finally, we're starting to unravel all the parts shima has been hiding away. compared to the last cultural festival, shima has made significant progress by taking small steps to become someone he can be proud of. along those steps, he is finally addressing the issues with his mother. for so long, shima has put on a facade to please the people around him, but slowly, he's starting to become his own person. one thing he has to finally face is his relationship with his mother.

after so long, we finally get to see what his mom has been thinking. we understood that shima's relationship with his mother was perfect, but he constantly felt pressure to please her, which ultimately caused a rift in their relationship. seeing her point of view shows us she truly wanted the best for shima but came about it the wrong way and ended up selfishly wanting things to work out for HERSELF. shima just wanted to make her mother proud, and her mother wanted shima to become a star, no matter what the cost. being a single mother is difficult; no one can truly understand that position unless they have lived it themselves.
however, it's clear that even if her intentions were pure, deep down, she wanted to use shima to prove to herself that all her sacrifices were worth it. motherhood requires a lot of sacrifice. you constantly do what's best for your child and even put their needs before your own. i emphathize with shima's mother. it's understandable to do everything you can to give your child the best opportunities. however, sometimes parents put all their hopes and dreams onto their children without meaning to. shima's success became more than what was best for him; it also became his mother's only hope.
the contrast between shima's family dynamic and mitsumi's family dynamic is so well done. in the past few chapters, we've seen how supportive and close mitsumi is with her family. you could easily tell from how confident she is that she grew up with a lot of love. shima, on the other hand, grew up constantly feeling the world on his shoulders. he did all he could to make his mom proud, and all that pressure eventually broke him down. the theme of family is handled exceptionally well in skip and loafer; i love seeing how different dynamics impact the characters.

acting caused shima a lot of pain. parts of it were fun and even fulfilling, but the stress of trying to be the best actor and the best son made it unbearable. even after not acting for so long, shima still felt pressure to act "perfectly. He spent so long doing what he believed everyone wanted that it caused him to lose sight of what he truly wants out of life. he put acting on hold; he didn't have many meaningful connections with people, and he hadn't properly dealt with his mother. but now, all he wants to do is his best. after meeting mitsumi and growing a beautiful relationship with her, shima understands that he wants to stand beside her.
it takes so courage to change the way you've lived for so long. the moment shima decided that he WANTED to be on stage again was the beginning of his journey. i'm so excited to see how shima performs in the next chapter! i am incredibly proud of all the progress he has made. each and every chapter, shima is steadily working to become the person he's always wanted to be. it makes me so emotional to see how far he's come from the beginning of the story. i hope shima has a talk with his mom because I believe that once he clears the air and speaks honestly from the heart, he'll feel much more confident in his self-discovery journey.
i LOVED this chapter!!!!!! i am so in love with this story, and each chapter just reminds me of how beautiful skip and loafer is. i'm so excited for what's next!!

vinland saga 219 thoughts
this chapter was so beautiful! although things didn’t work out, everyone can learn from this battle & either improve or let it cause more issues. as karli said, even though things went wrong, it doesn’t mean that thorfinn’s way of thinking is flawed. they can always try again. it takes a lot of effort, courage, and strength to want to try again, but i believe thorfinn and his followers can make it work.

it makes me so emotional to see how einar finally understood what thorfinn was talking about. not just einar, but hild and cordelia could see what thorfinn meant. using an excuse like “i was backed into a corner, i had no other choice” doesn’t solve anything. if you choose to act out in violence, only pain & misery will follow.

thorfinn's understanding is incredible. he doesn't get mad at einar, but in fact, he is glad einar understands him. for so long, thorfinn's journey has been lonely, even with people beside him; no one truly understood what thorfinn had to go through to become this peaceful. but instead of being bitter and resentful, thorfinn takes this as a teaching moment. einar's death was heart-wrenching, but it was beautifully written. if einar, who despises war so much, can hold a weapon, then what does that say for everyone else?
i don’t know where thorfinn will end up or what he plans to do, but i believe he has so much more to offer. if he chooses to push through and start again, i believe thorfinn could make something amazing happen.
