How to Learn Arabic Alphabet
Among the number of foreign languages that you can study, why should you learn Arabic? It is not an easy language to learn and has nothing in common with English. Therefore, a speaker of English will have a difficult time to learn it. But looking at the positive side, learning Arabic can offer several benefits.
If you think of the advantages of learning Arabic, the effort and time that you would dedicate to learn the language would all be worth it.
Arabic is a Southern-Central Semitic language. It is spoken in most parts of the Arabian Peninsula, parts of Middle East and North Africa. In these regions, the languages with the most number of speakers, in chronological order are Arabic, Persian, Turkish, Kurdish and Hebrew. These languages belong to different language families. Turkish is part of the Turkic family. The Indo-European language family is represented by Kurdish and Persian. Hebrew and Arabic belong to the Afro-Asiatic language family. Aside from these major languages, people in the Middle East speak around 20 minority languages.
Arabic is a macrolanguage that has 30 modern varieties or dialects. Literary Arabic, which is also called Standard Arabic or Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), is used today in formal speech and in writing in the Arab world while Classical Arabic was used in Islamic literature of the 7th to 9th centuries. It is the language of the Quran.
The basis of the Modern Standard Arabic is the classical version and the differences between the two are related to simplification and modernization in writing and speaking styles. The MSA is used in the modern versions of the Qur’an and the modern editions of the novels and poetries from the Abbasid and Umayyad periods.
Why Learn Arabic Language?
Arabic is the fourth most spoken language in the world. About 315 million people in 58 countries speak the Arabic as their first language…
Learning     Arabic will make you stand out, as there are very few people from the West     that speak Arabic. Having command of Arabic will make you appear clever     and sophisticated.
Learning     a language is learning about the culture of the country where the language     is spoken. Arab culture is rich and interesting. Learning the language     will enable you to read some of the famous classic literature. If you are     a fan of Aladdin, Ali Baba and Sindbad the Sailor, imagine reading the     many stories in The One Thousand and One Nights (Alf laylah wa laylah)     or the poems of Ḥāfeẓ and Ahmad Shawqi in their original versions.
You'll     be able to benefit economically. Natural resources abound in the Middle     East and speaking Arabic will open many job positions for you.
You'll     be able to experience true Arab hospitality. Arabs are very proud of their     language. Unlike the Germans who are not impressed when foreigners are     able to speak their language, the opposite is shown by Arabs. Once a     native speaker of Arabic hears a foreigner speak a few words in Arabic,     they would be very eager and happy to help you learn their language.
When     you learn Arabic you'll be able to appreciate the region's unique way of     life, cuisine, literature, music and art. You'll open the door to their     rich culture that is not often exposed to the Western world. You'll     appreciate their cultural practices and products and understand the values     that matter much to them, such as hospitality, dignity and honor.
You'll     be able to understand Islam better if you're able to read the     Qurʾān and understand its teachings.
You'll     have an edge over competition even if you are in the West. The demand for     people fluent in Arabic is quite high and only a few people from the West     attempt to learn Arabic. The     secret services in the U.S. need people who are fluent speakers of Arabic.     There are many businesses, including translating and interpreting that are     in need of Arabic speakers. Other fields that need Arabic speakers include     intelligence and foreign service, consulting, banking and finance,     education and journalism.
When     you know Arabic, you'll be able to have an easier time learning other     languages spoken in the region, such as Farsi or Persian, Turkish, Urdu     and even Hebrew. Most of the vocabularies of these languages are derived     from and similar to Arabic words so you will be able to quickly grasp the     semantic and grammatical concepts of the other languages.
Traveling     to the Middle East would be easier. A good number of Arabs are able to     speak English but the larger part of the population only uses Arabic as     their primary language. Even if you can only speak common words and phrases,     it is better to speak the local language. It would help you appreciate the     traditional villages and other points of interest.
If you     are an American, you might avail of the financial incentives the U.S.     government grants to people who are interested to learn Arabic. The     government has declared that Arabic is a language that has strategic     importance and the National Strategic Language Initiative promotes the     learning of several languages that are critical to the foreign policies     and relationships of the government. It provides learning opportunities     and scholarships for those interested to learn a critical language. The     support covers course from beginners to advanced levels, professional     development, teacher exchanges, opportunities for intensive instruction     and study abroad programs. You can check the scholarships available from     the Critical Language Scholarship Program, the Boren Awards of the     National Security Education Program and the Arabic Overseas Language     Flagship Program.
If you     are planning to join a trading firm, an import-export company or engage in     business yourself, many opportunities are available in the Arab nations.     Its population is growing and with a huge GDP, it is a prime market for     export of services and goods. Learning Arabic and the culture of the     people who speak the language will make it easier for you to negotiate and     conduct business.
Nations     that speak Arabic contributed significantly to global civilization. Many     Arabs contributed to the advancement of philosophy, medicine and science.     They have vast libraries that preserved the learnings from Byzantine,     Roman and Greek cultures. You can explore the world of architecture,     astrology, navigation, mathematics and literature in their first language.
Learning     Arabic can make you an ambassador for your home country. Many people in     the U.S. view Arabic speakers negatively because they only get to learn     about them from mass media and movies. The situation is the same in the     Arab world. If you are studying or working in the Middle East, you'll be     able to help break up the misconceptions the Arabs have about the     Americans and the United States.
You     gain vital language skills when you learn Arabic. It is easier to learn     French or Spanish and these languages will allow you to travel or work in     various countries, especially in Europe. However, you have more     competition because there are more learners and speakers of these     languages. If you learn Arabic, you are sure that there would be a great     demand for your language skills as the supply is scarce. Further, if you     learn Mandarin Chinese for example, your career focus would only be in a     few countries, whereas if you learn Arabic, your opportunities are wider     as the language is spoken in 58 countries.
How to Learn Arabic Language?
1- Decide which form of Arabic you want to learn
There are many types of Arabic. It is the mother tongue and official language of nearly 30 countries in the middle east and northern Africa. There are different accents and a variety of local pronunciations. If you’re planning to spend time in one area, you’ll want to choose the variation that pertains to that region.
One such example is Egyptian Colloquial Arabic, which is the most widespread regional Arabic dialect and is most often used in television and movies.
However, brand new students should also consider Modern Standard Arabic, the official language of 22 Arab countries and one of the official languages of the United Nations.
2- Start with the basics
It’s easy to fall into the trap of trying to learn Arabic by transcribing words instead of learning the Arabic alphabet first. Think about how we learned English back in school. First, you learn your letters, then you form those letters into words, then you learn how to form sentences, and then you learn more about proper syntax and grammar. Taking shortcuts will only slow you down.
3- Learn to use the Arabic dictionary
This task is not as easy as it sounds. In an Arabic dictionary, words are generally organized around three-letter roots. To look up a word, you need to know what the root is and what letter the root starts with – which is not necessarily the first letter in the word. Using the dictionary takes practice, but the sooner you learn it the better. It will make the entire process easier and more enjoyable.
4- Immerse yourself in study and practice
This is a critical step in learning any language, but doubly so when learning Arabic. The best way to learn a new word is to see it, hear it, write it and speak it, so combine those activities as much as you can.
One way for beginners to practice a foreign language is to watch children’s television programs in that language. The vocabulary is simpler, and the educational nature of those programs can be extremely helpful to new students of any age. As you gain proficiency, another tactic is to watch movies in the foreign language with English subtitles on. That way you gain a better “ear” for listening, and the subtitles give you the translation for what you’re hearing. Eventually, you’ll be able to switch off the subtitles and still understanding what is being said.
5- Speak the language
Seeing and hearing isn’t enough, however. It’s critical that you converse in Arabic with other people. It can be difficult to find a conversational partner if you’re not acquainted with native Arabic speakers. Thankfully, modern technology can do a lot to solve that problem.
There are many groups for students to learn Arabic online, and it’s become much easier to find tutors who will coach you and help you in your studies. Take advantage of these resources. The more you practice, the faster you will learn.
6- Never stop learning These steps are just the beginning. It’s easy to begin the journey of learning Arabic but challenging to see it through.
Mastering the Arabic language
will require years of study, but gaining conversation skills can come quickly if you dedicate yourself to the pursuit.

Muslim Prayer (Salat) - Second Pillar of Islam
The five pillars of Islam represent the foundation of Muslim life and Muslims are required to observe them with utmost devotion. Just like a building lacks stability without strong pillars, a believer’s relationship with Allah lacks focus without observance of the five pillars of Islam. These pillars form the foundation and starting point for all other good deeds and acts of worship to Allah.
1. The Profession of Faith—The Shahada
The Profession of Faith, the shahada, is the most fundamental expression of Islamic beliefs. It simply states that “There is no God but God and Muhammad is his prophet.” It underscores the monotheistic nature of Islam. It is an extremely popular phrase in Arabic calligraphy and appears in numerous manuscripts and religious buildings.
“There is none worthy of worship except God (Allah) and Muhammad (pbuh) is the messenger of Allah.” This declaration of faith is called the Shahadah, a simple formula that all the faithful pronounce. The significance of this declaration is the belief that the only purpose of life is to serve and obey God, and this is achieved through the teachings and practices of the Last Prophet, Muhammad (pbuh).
2. Daily Prayers—Salat (Salah)
Muslims are expected to pray five times a day. This does not mean that they need to attend a mosque to pray; rather, the salat, or the daily prayer, should be recited five times a day. Muslims can pray anywhere; however, they are meant to pray towards Mecca. The faithful pray by bowing several times while standing and then kneeling and touching the ground or prayer mat with their foreheads, as a symbol of their reverence and submission to Allah. On Friday, many Muslims attend a mosque near midday to pray and to listen to a sermon, khutba.
Prayer is the name for the obligatory prayers that are performed five times a day, and are a direct link between the worshipper and God. There is no hierarchical authority in Islam and there are no priests. Prayers are led by a learned person who knows the Quran and is generally chosen by the congregation.
Prayers are said at dawn, mid-day, late-afternoon, sunset and nightfall, and thus determine the rhythm of the entire day. These five prescribed prayers contain verses from the Quran, and are said in Arabic, the language of the Quran Revelation. Personal supplications, however, can be offered in one’s own language and at any time.
Although it is preferable to worship together in a mosque, a Muslim may pray almost anywhere, such as in fields, offices, factories and universities. Oftentimes visitors to the Muslim world are struck by the centrality of prayers in daily life.
3. Obligatory Charity—Zakat
The giving of alms is the third pillar. Although not defined in the Qu’ran, Muslims believe that they are meant to share their wealth with those less fortunate in their community of believers.
An important principle of Islam is that everything belongs to Allah, and that wealth is therefore held by human beings in trust. The word “Zakah (Zakat)” means both “purification” and “growth.” Our possessions are purified by setting aside a proportion for those in need and for the society in general. Like the pruning of plants, this cutting back balances and encourages new growth.
Each Muslim calculates his or her own obligatory charity individually. This involves the annual payment of 2.5% of one’s capital, excluding such items as primary residence, car and professional tools.
An individual may also give as much as he or she pleases as voluntary charity, and does so preferably in secret. Such charity is not limited to financial giving.
The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said, “Even meeting your brother with a cheerful face is an act of charity.” The Prophet also said: “Charity is a necessity for every Muslim.” He was asked: “What if a person has nothing?” The Prophet replied: “He should work with his own hands for his benefit and then give something out of such earnings in charity.” The Companions of the Prophet asked: “What if he is not able to work?” The Prophet said: “He should help the poor and needy.” The Companions further asked: “What if he cannot do even that?” The Prophet said: “He should urge others to do good.” The Companions said: “What if he lacks that also?” The Prophet said: “He should check himself from doing evil. That is also an act of charity.”
4. Fasting during Ramadan—Saum (Sawm)
During the holy month of Ramadan, the ninth month in the Islamic calendar, Muslims are expected to fast from dawn to dusk. While there are exceptions made for the sick, elderly, and pregnant, all are expected to refrain from eating and drinking during daylight hours. Children begin to fast (and to observe prayers) from puberty, although many start earlier.
Although fasting is beneficial to health, it is mainly a method of self-purification and self-restraint. By cutting oneself from worldly comforts, even for a short time, a fasting person focuses on his or her purpose in life by constantly being aware of the presence of God. God states in the Quran: “O you who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed to those before you that you may learn self-restraint.” (Quran 2:183)
5. Pilgrimage to Mecca—Hajj
All Muslims who are able are required to make the pilgrimage to Mecca and the surrounding holy sites at least once in their lives. Pilgrimage focuses on visiting the Kaaba and walking around it seven times. Pilgrimage occurs in the 12th month of the Islamic Calendar.
The pilgrimage to Mecca (Hajj) is an obligation only for those who are physically and financially able to do so. Nevertheless, over two million people go to Makkah each year from every corner of the globe providing a unique opportunity for those of different nations to meet one another.
The annual Hajj begins in the twelfth month of the Islamic lunar year. Pilgrims wear special clothes: simple garments that strip away distinctions of class and culture, so that all stand equal before God.
The rites of Hajj, which are of Abrahamic origin, include going around the Kaaba seven times, and going seven times between the hills of Safa and Marwa as did Hagar (Hajira, Abraham’s wife) during her search for water. The pilgrims later stand together on the wide plains of Arafat (a large expanse of desert outside Mecca) and join in prayer for God’s forgiveness, in what is often thought as a preview of the Day of Judgment.
The close of Hajj is marked by a festival, the Eid al Adha, which is celebrated with prayers and the exchange of gifts in Muslim communities everywhere. This and Eid al Fitr, a festive day celebrating the end of Ramadan, are the two holidays of the Islamic calendar.

Holy Quran Tafseer
Tafsir Al Quran or Tafseer Al Quran attempts to provide elucidation, explanation, interpretation, context or commentary for clear understanding and conviction of Allah’s will. The word Tafsir (Tafseer) is derived from the Arabic word fassara, which literally means to lift the curtain, to make clear, to show the objective, and hence by analogy tafsir is the body of knowledge which aims to make clear the true meaning of the Qur'an, its injunctions and the occasions of its revelation.
Types of Tafseer (Tafsir)
1- Tafsir bil-riwaya (also known as Tafsir bil-mathur)
Tafsir Bil-Riwaya includes the interpretation of the Qur'an by Quranic verses and use of the explanations of the prophet and his companions. Books of this class of Tafsir include those attributed to Ibn Abbas, Ibn Abi Khatim, Ibn Habban, and that of Imam Suyuti known as Al-Dur al-Mansu, tafsir by Khatir and al-Shukani may also be included in this group.
2- Tafsir Bil-Ray (or Tafsir Bil-Dirayah)
Tafsir Bil-Ray is not based directly on transmission of knowledge from the past, but on reason. Exegesis is derived through opinion based on reason and Ijtihad or Qiyas. In this area we find tafsirs like al-Kashaf by Zamakshari (d. 1144).
3- Tafsir bil-ishara
Tafsir bil-ishara goes into the detail of the concepts and ideas associated with the words and verses of the Qur'an. This kind of tafsir is often produced by mystically inclined authors. The most famous are those by al-Razi and al-Khazin.
The 6 Sources of Quranic Exegesis
1. The Quran
The first source of the knowledge of tafsir is the Quran itself. Accordingly, it happens very often that a certain point which is brief and requires explanation is invariably clarified by some other verse of the Quran. For instance, in the following verse of Surat al-Fatihah, “Guide us on the straight path, the path of those on whom You have blessed…”, it is not clear here as to who are those whom Allah Almighty has blessed. But, in another verse, they have been identified very clearly where it is said:
So, these are the people whom Allah Almighty has blessed, being the prophets, their true followers, the martyrs (in the way of Allah) and the righteous. (4:69)
Therefore, when commentators explain a Quranic verse, they first check to see if a tafsir of the verse is already existent elsewhere in the Quran itself. If such an explanatory verse exists, they elect to adhere to it as their first choice.
2- The Hadith
The words and the deeds of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) are called Hadith, and as it has been stated earlier, Allah Almighty sent him with the Quran solely for the purpose of explaining, openly and explicitly, the correct meanings of the Quran to people. Consequently, he discharged this duty with grace and excellence both by word and deed. In fact, his whole blessed life is, after all, a practical tafseer of Quran. It is for this reason that respected commentators, in order to understand the Quran, have laid the greatest emphasis on the hadith as the second source of tafsir and it is in the light of hadiths that they have determined the meanings of the Book of Allah.
3- Narrations of Companions
The noble Sahabah, or Companions (may Allah be pleased with them all), had received their education directly from the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). In addition, they were personally present on the scene when verses were revealed, and they had themselves witnessed the circumstances and backgrounds of the Quranic revelation. Therefore, naturally, the recorded statements of these blessed souls are far more authentic and trustworthy in explaining the Noble Quran. Hence, in the case of verses the explanation of which is not found in the Quran or Hadith, statements recorded from the noble Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) are given the highest priority. Consequently, if there is a consensus of Companions on the explanation of a certain verse, the commentators follow just that and explaining it in any way otherwise is not considered permissible.
4- Narrations of the Successors
After the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) come the Successors (Tabi‘in). The latter learnt the tafsir of Quran directly from the former. Therefore, their statements too have great importance in the science of tafsir, although a difference of opinion among scholars exists on whether the statements of the Successors are considered decisive in tafsir. Their importance, nonetheless, cannot be denied. (al-Itqan, 2:179)
5- The Arabic Language
Since the Quran was revealed in the Arabic language, in order to accurately explain the Quran, it is necessary to learn Arabic language and master it. There are several verses of the Quran for which there happen to be neither any attending circumstance of revelation nor any related juristic or scholastic question. Therefore, in their explanation, neither the sayings of the Holy Prophet nor the statements of the Sahabah or Tabi‘in have been transmitted. Hence, the only means through which such verses can be explained is the Arabic language, and it is on the basis of language alone that they are elucidated. Additionally, should there be some difference in the tafseer of a certain verse, then also the science of linguistics is used to run a test of veracity between varying opinions.
6- Deliberation and Deduction
The last source of tafsir consists of deliberation and deduction
. The subtleties and mysteries of the Quran are an ocean with no shore. Therefore, the more a person who has been blessed with insight into the
Islamic sciences
by Allah Almighty deliberates into it, the more he discovers ever-new mysteries and subtleties. As a result, commentators do present the outcomes of their respective deliberations as well, but the mysteries and subtleties so described are found acceptable only when they do not contradict the five sources mentioned above. So, should a person, while explaining the Quran, come up with a subtle point or independent judgment which is contrary to the Quran and Sunnah, Consensus (Ijma‘), language, or the statements of Companions and Successors, or stands in conflict with another principle of Shari‘ah, then it will have no credence. Some mystics in the past sought to describe such mysteries and subtleties in tafseer but investigative scholars of the Ummah did not consider them trustworthy because the personal opinion of any person that contravenes the basic principles of the Quran, Sunnah and Shariah have obviously no weight. (al-Itqan, 2:184)

Tajweed
Tajweed or Tajwid Quran is a set of rules for the correct pronunciation of the letters with all its qualities and applying the various of recitation. When applied to the Qur’an, it means giving every letter of the Qur’an its rights and dues of characteristics when we recite the Qur’an, and observing the rules that apply to those letters in different situations. We give the letters their rights by observing the essential characteristics of each letter. We give them their dues by observing the characteristics of each letter that are present in them some of the time and not present at other times.
The Qur’an was revealed with Tajweed rules applied to it. In other words, when the angel Jibreel (Gabriel), may Allah exalt his mention, recited the words of Allah to the Prophet Muhammad (PUBH), he recited them in a certain way and he showed the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), the ways in which it was permissible to recite the Qur’an. So it is obligatory upon us to observe those rules so that we recite Quran it in the way it was revealed.
At the time of the Prophet (PBUH), there was no need for people to learn Tajweed Quran because they talked with what is now known as Tajweed, so it was natural for them. When the Arabs started mixing with the non-Arabs and as Islam spread, mistakes in the Quran recitation began to appear, so the scholars had to record the rules. Now, because the everyday Arabic that Arabs speak has changed so much from the Classical Arabic with which the Qur’an was revealed, even the Arabs have to study Tajweed.
Tips to Learn Quran with Tajweed (Tajwid)
1.       Renew your intention every time Learning the phonemes of any new language is very difficult for an adult. Therefore, you need a lot of stamina and will power to accomplish this. Often you might get discouraged when despite continuous efforts you fail to produce the right sound. During these times, remind yourself why you’re doing this.
2.       Don’t be afraid to make mistakes Many of us have this notion that it is haram to recite Quran if you don’t know how to do it properly. This belief is not just wrong; it is in fact harmful as if prevents us from reciting the Quran.
3.       Over-stress in order to achieve the right stress If you have particular difficulties in producing the ح ق ع sounds. So what you should do at first, is to put extra stress in these words at the beginning, and once you could produce the stressed sounds with ease, stop stressing them. Then you could produce the correct sounds for these letters. Try and see if it works.
4.       Practice Keep practicing. You don’t need a fixed time and place to practice makhraj and sifaat. Just try pronouncing them whenever they come in mind – while daydreaming, having a break from work, or watching TV. Just try producing those sounds, just like a baby does. A baby blabbers whenever he/she feels like, not caring what others think, not getting embarrassed, just enjoying what he/she is doing and learning a language at the same time.
5.       Listen and imitate Listen as much as you can of Quranic recitation. For beginners it is best to select a slow monotonous recitation, e.g. Husayri (rh). Listen and try to repeat after it. You’ll find that soon you’re getting the hang of it.
6.       Take each rule one at a time When you learn one rule of recitation, practice it and get the hang of it first before starting on the next rule. If you try to master too many rules at one go, there is a chance that you’ll get overwhelmed and might even feel like giving up. So make it slow and sure.
7.       Don’t be ashamed to use them in conversation Once you have learned how to pronounce ayn, don’t hesitate to use it the next time you say assalamu ‘alaikum. When you learn Ha, say alHamdulillah correctly. Don’t be shy of others. Don’t be scared of receiving praise, rather let it remind you of the blessing of Allah. Correct pronunciation is a gift from Allah, and we must use it in order to please Him.
Main Tajweed Rules
1- Manners of the Heart
The first part of the rules of tajweed concern the outlook of person reading the Quran, also called ‘Manners of the Heart’. These include:
Knowing     and believing that the Quran is not the word of man, but the speech of     Allah.
The     student must clear his, or her, mind of all other thoughts before     beginning to learn     Quran with tajweed.
The     reader must full understand the meaning and significance of the words and     Ayahs (sentences) of the Quran being recited by him, or her.
The     reader must be a person of humble nature since the beauty and depth of     meaning of Allah’s speech are only revealed to the humble soul.
One     should feel that every message in the Quran is meant personally for the     person reading those messages of the Quran.
And,     of course, one should understand the proper pronunciation of the Arabic     alphabet.
2- External Manners
The second set of rules of tajweed concern ‘External Manners’, such as:
Purity     of one’s body, clothes, and the place where one is reciting Quran.
One     should preferably face the Qiblah (the Ka’bah in Makkah) while reciting     Quran.
One     should pause after reading an Ayah which carries a warning by seeking     Allah’s protection.
One     should also pause after reciting an Ayah which mentions Allah’s mercy by     praising Allah for all the favors that He has bestowed on us, as well as     to beseech Him to always have mercy on us.
The     student should be careful to only use pure classical Arabic dialect and     pronunciation, called ‘Fussha’ without mixing any foreign accent or     dialectic with it.
3 - Makharij-ul-Huroof
The third part of the rules of tajweed concerns Makharij-ul-Huroof or ‘the emission points of the letters’. These emission points of letters are the various regions and places in the mouth, of the lips, and in the throat, from where the sounds of the different letters of classical ‘Fussha’ Arabic are emitted.
4- Sifaat-ul-Huruf
The fourth part of the rules of tajweed concerns the characteristics of the letters. These are called Sifaat-ul-Huruf, These refer to the different attributes of the letters, or the ‘manner of articulation’ of the letters.
5- Noon (The Noon Sakinah and Tanween)
The fifth set of rules of tajweed while reciting Quran concerns the letters Noon and the related Tanween. The Noon Sakinah and Tanween (vowels that produces a "nnn" sound immediately after it) can be pronounced in four different ways.
6- Meem (The Meem Sakinah)
The sixth set of tajweed rules while reading Quran concern the letter Meem. The Meem Sakinah can be pronounced in three different ways.
7- Muddud
The seventh rule of recitation with tajweed concerns prolongation [Muddud]. These rules refer to the number of beats that are pronounced when a vowel letter is followed by a Mudd letter.
8- Laam(Qamariyya and Shamsiyya)
The eighth rule of reading Quran with tajweed concerns the letter Laam. The Arabic word for "the" is ‘al’ (the letters Alif and Laam). The Laam in ‘al’ is pronounced if the letter following the al is "Qamariyya" (lunar), but silent if the letter following the al is "Shamsiyya" (solar). Qamariyya and Shamsiyya refer to the shape of the Arabic letters.
9- Thickness and Thinness (Tafkhim and Tarqeeq) The ninth and final set of tajweed rules concern the thickness and thinness of pronunciation of the Arabic letters. Some of the Arabic letters are always pronounced thick with a heavy accent (Tafkhim), while some letters are pronounced thin with a light accent (Tarqeeq).

Hafiz e Quran
Quran Memorization or Hifz Quran is the mental process of committing the Holy Quran verses to memory for later recall. Muslims believe that whoever memorizes the Qur'an and follow its instructions, Allah will reward him/her and honor him/her greatly for that, so that he/she will rise in status in Jannah to a level commensurate with what he memorized of the Book of Allah.
Hafiz (Arabic: حافظ‎) is a term used by Muslims for someone who has completely memorized the Quran while Hafiza is the female equivalent.
Huffaz are highly respected within the Islamic community. They are worthy to use the title "Hafiz" before their names.
Also, they are tested for this knowledge. For example, they are asked to continue the recitation of a passage taken randomly from the Quran. As they do not know which passage will be chosen, they must know the whole text in order to be sure of passing. Another test, a would-be hafiz might be asked to recite verses containing a specific word or phrase.

3.       Use Writing Visual learners learn best with fun, visual aids. Try using mini-whiteboards to larger boards specifically for memorization purposes and keep them in place you will see throughout the day. Write down the verses in Arabic or transliteration. Use many different colors to make them visually appealing! When testing yourself, erase it and rewrite off memory.
Quran Memorization Techniques for Reading/Writing & Kinesthetic Learners
1.       Listen to the Verses you want to Memorize on Loop Many Quran apps have audio looping functions. Simply select your favorite reciter, pick the verses you want to memorize, and play it on loop. As an auditory learner, listening to the verse repetitively is an effective way to memorize.
2.       Record Yourself and Listen Back Using your phone or Quran Companion’s recording feature, you can record yourself reciting from memory. Play it back while reading the verse to check for mistakes and to check your accuracy for Tajweed and makhraj.
3.       Teach Someone Else Teaching someone else what you’ve learned utilizes both speaking and listening, which work best for auditory learners, as well as reinforces your own revision. So it’s like a double win! You can teach your kids, your spouse, or your friends. If you don’t have someone you can regularly teach and practice with, just pretend to teach someone!
Quran Memorization Techniques for Auditory Learners
1.       Write down the Letters of Each Verse Linking verses is one of the common challenges people face when learn memorizing the Quran. Writing down the first letter of every word on a separate sheet of paper as you read or recite the verses is an effective way for reading/writing and kinesthetic learners to connect the verses in memory.
2.       Trace the Letters with Your Finger as You Read/Memorize Incorporating movement reinforces memory for kinesthetic learners. Quran Recitation for Kids
In Islam, Qira'at, which means literally the readings, terminologically means the method of recitation. Traditionally, there are 10 recognized schools of qira'at, and each one derives its name from a famous reader of Quran recitation. It is a corpus of recitation.
The Noble Quran is a book of guidance and a sea of knowledge for those who take inspiration from it. As the word of Allah revealed to the Prophet (PBUH), it contains historical parables, jurisprudential information, ethical advice, and values which we need to instill in our lives. While the Quran is meant to be a guide for all of humanity, regardless of creed, identity, cultural background, age, or gender, we have more potential to learn from its guidance and knowledge if we purify our hearts. Allah states, “There is no doubt that this book is a guide for the pious.”
Importance of Quran Recitation
Let us look at some of the benefits of reciting the Quran on a daily basis with understanding so that we can get closer to the majestic words of Almighty Allah. Each benefit acts as enough encouragement to Muslims that they should recite the Quran daily with understanding. A Muslim gets to know about the real purpose behind the revelation of the Quran it should not like that when a Muslim is in some difficult situation then open the Quran and recite it. This purpose of Quran revelation is mentioned in Quran in the following way: “A Book (the Quran) which We have sent down to you, full of blessings that they may ponder over its Verses, and that men of understanding may receive admonition.” (Quran, 38:29)
It is clear from the above verse that the purpose of the Quran is to bring blessings to a person and it brings about the spirit of monitoring in the readers. Therefore, if one does not read the Quran on a daily bases, he or she is actually missing a chance of getting inspiration to examine all the things Allah has created and all the matters of life. Therefore, in order to gain religious reward, a Muslim needs to learn recite Quran on a regular basis.
The     Quran will intercede for us on the Day of Judgment: The Prophet Muhammad     (PBUH) said that: “Read the Quran, for verily it will come on the Day     of Standing as an intercessor for its companions.”(Muslim)
Cleansing of Heart: When a Muslim recites Quran, it affects the heart and purifies it by cleaning it from all the impurities that stick on it. Allah Almighty says in the Quran: “O mankind! There hath come to you     an admonition from your Lord and a healing for the (diseases) in your     hearts and for those who believe a Guidance and Mercy.” (Quran,     10:57)
Be from the best of the people: If you want to be the ones who are best in the eyes of Allah then teach Quran others and learn it too. In     hadith, our beloved Prophet (SAW) said: “The best of you are the ones     who learn the Quran and teach it to others” (Bukhari)
Ten     Rewards for each letter recitation from Quran: Hadith related to this is stated in a way that: “Whoever reads a letter from the Book of Allah, he will have a reward. And that reward will be multiplied by ten. I am not saying that “Alif, Laam, Meem” is a letter, rather I am     saying that “Alif” is a letter, “laam” is a letter and “meem” is a letter.” (Tirmidhi).      So increase the recitation of Quran to get these rewards.
Knowing about matters related to daily life: The Holy Quran does not just comprise of teachings about the past nations but also encloses life transforming instructions and guidelines from the Gracious Lord. In the Holy     Quran Allah stated that: “And, we have certainly presented for the     people in this Qur’an from every [kind of] example – that they might     remember.” (Quran, 39: 27). From this verse, we can say that the     Sacred Book Holy Quran consists of such examples which are very crucial for one to remember in order to seek constant guidance. So from the Quran, we can get any kind of guidance for our daily life problems and all kind of matters.
Chance of Communication with Allah Almighty: Quran recitation can be made attractive and in doing so it can initiate a sort of conversation with Allah Almighty. The example of which can be seen in the form of the     way Prophet (SAW) read Quran: “And when He (Prophet) recited the     verses which referred to the Glory of Allah, He glorified Him, the Great,     and when He recited the verses that mention supplication, He supplicated,     and when He recited the Verses that mention seeking Refuge of the Rabb He     sought (His) refuge” (Muslim).
You will get the position in Paradise on the basis of Quran memorization in this life: If you want to get higher rank in Paradise then memorize and recite Quran effectively. The Holy Prophet (SAW) stated related to it as: “It will be said to the companion of the Qur’an:     Read and elevate (through the levels of the Paradise) and beautify your voice as you used to do when you were in the dunyaa! For verily, your     position in Paradise will be at the last verse you recite!” (Abu     Dawood)
Quran will lead to Paradise: Quran recitation will lead all of them who recited it regularly to paradise. Our beloved Prophet (SAW) stated that: “The Quran is an intercessor, something has given permission to intercede, and it is rightfully believed in. Whoever puts it in front of     him, it will lead him to Paradise; whoever puts it behind him, it will     steer him to the Hellfire.”
Fulfillment of Religious Duty: The most merciful has commanded all the Muslims to reflect on the Quranic Instructions not only to appreciate their significance for it is a Divine Book that leads towards righteousness and morality. It is our religious duty to recite the Quran with understanding.
Daily recitation of Quran brings reward from Allah; it can also bring other benefits in the form of the cleansing of the heart, a chance of communication with Allah and thus becoming a better Muslim every day. The Holy Quran is a highly admired Book of Allah that requires proper understanding.

Quran Tajweed Rules Course
Tajweed Rules Course is designed for learning how to pronounce the letters in the words correctly such as when a consonant letter is silent or not, etc.
What is Tajweed? The word Tajweed linguistically means “doing something well”. It comes from the same root letters as the word ‘Jayyid’ in Arabic (meaning “good”): Jeem, Waw and Daal. It refers to the rules for learning how to recite the Quran. The Quran was revealed with Tajweed, because the angel Jibreel (as) recited the words of Allah (swt) to the Prophet Muhammad (saw) in a certain way and the Prophet (saw) recited it in the manner it was permissible to recite the Quran.
Is it necessary to learn Tajweed? If a person is not aware of the attributes of each letter of the Quran, there is a possibility that the reciter of the Quran will change the meaning of the words in the Quran recitation. We must strive to give every letter of the Quran its rights and dues, by observing the essential characteristics of each letter of the Quran. The result of doing this would be that we would learn to recite the holy Quran as close to the manner in which the Prophet (saw) recited it in sha Allah.
How can I learn Tajweed online? Arabic letters have Makhrij (exit point) from the mouth or throat. They also have Sifaat (characteristics). Knowing the Makhraj and Sifaat of each letter is the basis of Tajweed.
Through one-to-one live sessions with native Arabic tutors, it will be very easy for the Quran student to learn Tajweed for Quran.
