all I see is skin trying to hold back decay.

Armor over a corpse that just won’t drop.

I sleep, yet I don’t rest.

I eat, yet I taste ash.

I fuck, yet I feel nothing.

I put the rifle in my mouth, and it fit—like it belonged there.

I even tasted metal.

And then I hear it,

his fucking voice.

I’m aware of it.

I carry guilt like it’s stitched to my spine.

I’ve forgotten how to feel anything but tired.

Not the kind of tired sleep fixes.

The kind of tired that makes your bones hum with the wish to disappear.

I think about letting go every day.

Not dramatically.

Not with a scream.

Just quietly.

Like snow falling.

Like sand slipping out of a broken hourglass.

Maybe then I could finally rest.

AOT Babysitting Headcanons Pt. 3

Reiner

At first, he wouldn't think that you were being serious about asking him to watch your baby.

I think he would legitimately start panicking just a little bit because he would not feel prepared for this at all. 

He definitely would be super nervous about it, and he would try to push it off onto someone else.

He would probably cry the first time he held your baby.

But I feel like he would be so gentle. The baby would actually be super calm with him, and he would gain just a little bit of confidence after he calmed down a little bit.

Honestly, I don’t think he would sleep the entire night. He would be too nervous for that, not wanting to miss anything, and he would be scared that something bad was going to happen. 

He would make sure to follow your instructions to a T; your baby would be very well cared for. 

Bertholdt

Bertholdt is quiet and calm, and I think that your baby would be able to sense this immediately. 

The second you handed the baby over to Bertholdt, I think they would just be chilling in their swaddle, struggling to keep their eyes open. 

Similar to Reiner though, I think Bertholdt would be super nervous to babysit.

He would re-read the instructions you left him about 3 times, making sure that he didn't miss anything.

And then he would text you as well: It says to feed the baby every 2 hours but they didn't want to eat until 3 hours after the first time - is that okay? It says that they should be in their crib asleep by 9:00 but they are still awake at 9:15 - is this okay? I don't think there are enough diapers to get us through the night - where do you keep the extras?

And although the whole point of hiring a babysitter would be to ease the mental workload of caring for a child, you would appreciate how invested he was in making sure everything was done right. 

Annie

She would act super disinterested, but she would actually take the job super seriously.

Annie comes across as cold and closed off, but she would actually be super gentle toward the baby, and the baby would love her.

I feel like the baby would fall asleep on her chest and she just wouldn't move the rest of the night.

Then you would get home and see her still sitting in the rocking chair. You would ask, “Did you stay there the whole night?” and she would do that thing where she just dismisses you and tries to make it seem like not that big of a deal, saying something like “Shh, you’re going to wake them up.”

She would never admit it, but she actually enjoyed watching your baby.

And even though she would act like she couldn't care less, she would always agree to help babysit if you needed her.

The ways Annie and Reiner were raised are so apparent when they get into confrontations, because Reiner gets so passive-aggressive and guilt-trippy actually, and Annie gets physical.

I love Reiner bc he is three mental breakdowns in a trenchcoat who was tasked with fixing a millennia long war at age 12. And he predictably failed, miserably. Thats my favorite doomed failure guy! He sucks <3

I’ve seen different explanations for why Bertholdt is always side-eyeing Reiner. Someone said it’s because he’s always waiting for instructions from Reiner, and someone else said he’s just stressed about Reiner’s unstable mental state betraying them. (Which yeah definitely plausible)

But here’s the thing… it’s never explicit why Bertholdt stares at Reiner like this, so I think it can be interpreted any way. And if one interpretation is Bertholdt staring at Reiner is romantic because it’s been established that Bertholdt stares at people he’s attracted to, then I think that’s valid too!
