Unsettling Stories for Uncanny People: The Mandeer In The Backyard
Tumblr media
The Mandeer In The Backyard: Chapter 1 - The Mandeer Lurks
In the quaint town of Eldridge Hollow, where the trees whispered secrets and the streets were lined with the remnants of forgotten histories, a peculiar occurrence began to unfold. The residents were used to the usual oddities of life, but nothing could prepare them for the arrival of the Mandeer.
It all started when Clara Jenkins, a solitary woman in her late thirties, moved into a dilapidated house on the outskirts of town. The house, with its peeling paint and overgrown garden, had been abandoned for years, but Clara saw potential. She was an artist, seeking inspiration in the eerie beauty of decay, and the creaking floorboards and shattered windows spoke to her in ways that modernity never could.
One fog-laden evening, as Clara worked late on her latest piece—a haunting landscape of the town—she heard a rustling noise coming from her backyard. It was a sound unlike any she had heard before, a blend of soft footsteps and an almost melodic hum. Intrigued, she set down her brush and peered out the window, her heart racing with a mix of fear and excitement.
What she saw sent chills down her spine. Standing in her backyard was a creature that defied logic—a hybrid of a deer and something far more sinister. Its body was slender and covered in mottled grey fur, but its head was unmistakably human, with hollow eyes that glimmered like black stones. It swayed gently, its gaze fixed on Clara as if it were studying her.
Clara's fascination outweighed her fear, and she stepped outside, clutching her paintbrush like a talisman. The creature remained still, its hum growing louder, vibrating through the air like a haunting lullaby. As she approached, the Mandeer's eyes seemed to pull her closer, wrapping her in a trance. She reached out a trembling hand, but just as their fingertips were about to meet, the creature vanished into thin air, leaving only a whisper of its song lingering in the cool night.
Days turned into weeks, and Clara became obsessed with the Mandeer. Each night, she would wait by the window, hoping to catch a glimpse of the enigmatic being. It became a ritual, her only connection to the outside world. The townsfolk began to notice her growing reclusiveness, their whispers echoing the age-old tales of the Mandeer—a creature said to lure people into madness with its enchanting song.
One fateful night, driven by an overwhelming urge to find the truth, Clara ventured deeper into the woods behind her house. The moon hung low, casting an ethereal glow that illuminated her path. As she walked, the air thickened, and the trees seemed to close in around her, their branches reaching like skeletal fingers.
Suddenly, she heard the hum—the Mandeer's song. It beckoned her forward, and Clara followed, her heart pounding with a mix of dread and exhilaration. The melody led her to a clearing, where a circle of ancient stones stood, their surfaces etched with cryptic symbols. In the center, the Mandeer awaited her, its gaze piercing through the darkness.
"Why do you seek me?" it asked, its voice a haunting echo that resonated in her mind. "What do you desire?"
"I want to understand," Clara whispered, her voice trembling. "I want to know who you are."
The Mandeer stepped closer, its form shimmering like a mirage. "I am the keeper of lost souls, a guardian of those who wander too far into the void. You have called me forth with your art but be warned: the path you tread is fraught with peril. To know me is to know your deepest fears."
Clara's heart raced, but her curiosity burned brighter. "Show me."
With a chilling smile, the Mandeer extended a slender hoof, and Clara grasped it, feeling a surge of energy coursing through her veins. In an instant, the world around her dissolved into darkness, replaced by visions of her past—the haunting memories she had buried beneath layers of paint and canvas. Each fear, each regret, played out before her eyes, and Clara felt herself drowning in the weight of her history.
When the darkness finally receded, Clara found herself back in her backyard, the Mandeer standing before her once more. "You have seen what lies within you," it said, its voice now a whisper. "Embrace it, or let it consume you."
As the sun began to rise, casting warm rays over the chilling night, Clara understood that her encounter with the Mandeer had changed her forever. She returned to her art, pouring her soul into each stroke, blending the beauty of her fears with the light of her resilience.
But as the days turned into months, Clara noticed the town growing restless. People whispered of her madness, of the strange paintings that adorned her walls—depictions of shadowy figures and haunting landscapes that seemed to pulse with life. The Mandeer had not just shown her her fears; it had awakened something deep within the town itself.
One evening, as the sun dipped below the horizon, Clara stood in her backyard, her heart heavy with the weight of her newfound knowledge. The Mandeer appeared once again, its eyes reflecting the twilight. "You must choose," it said. "Will you share my song with the world, or will you silence it forever?"
Clara hesitated, her mind racing. The Mandeer's song was a melody of darkness and light, a siren call that could either inspire or destroy. With a deep breath, she made her choice.
"I will share it," she declared, her voice steady. "But I will do so with caution."
And with that, the Mandeer smiled a hauntingly beautiful expression that sent shivers down her spine. It vanished into the night, leaving Clara alone with her thoughts.
Clara penned the tale of the Mandeer, a warning and a celebration of the darkness that dwells within every soul. The townsfolk, drawn to her art, found themselves captivated by the stories she wove, unaware that the Mandeer was always watching, its song echoing in the shadows of Eldridge Hollow.
The Mandeer in the backyard was only the beginning, a whisper of the uncanny that would haunt them all.

WTF even IS Splatexodus?
In layman's terms.......an crazy-ass Avengers: Endgame-esque fanfiction where after disaster strikes, some of our might Nicktoon heroes(and maybe some live-action characters, and I may or may not throw either Herb Scandell, Geraldine Laybourne or Fred Seibert in) have to save their (now combined) universe....and the entire network, from certain destruction.
Coming soon.
Splatexodus
Ok, so I have this crazy-ass fanfiction idea for Nickelodeon.
To sum it up: Massive crossover, destruction, lots of references and maybe network death......
What? I'm a crazy individual.

HOLY COW OWL HOUSE CREW ARE ANDI MACK FANS CONFIRMED!!!!!!!!!
I just started watching the new Owl House episode and I noticed this and it made me so, so happy!
It probably wasn't even intentional, but Luz saying the words "Later, taters" to her friends right before kissing her girlfriend Amity on the cheek, felt like such a blatant "Fuck you" to Disney and its homophobia.
Let me explain why:
One of Disney's most groundbreaking shows "Andi Mack" was cancelled in 2019, most likely because of its diverse cast (a female Asian lead whose best friends were a black girl and a gay jewish boy) and the topics discussed on the show (teen pregnancy, homosexuality, mental health, disability, racism, gun safety, ...., only to name a few), which Disney didn't like.
"Disney's" first openly gay character from this show, Cyrus Goodman, who even got to use the word "gay" to describe himself, paved the way so Luz and Amity can exist as a couple on a Disney show today.
His last line on Andi Mack was:
