About Bill/Chip

I have been hesitant to make this post but I do think it's something worth talking about, because of how common this ship is and the fact that it has been encouraged by a crew member. In a fandom with mostly minors, I think it's important to be clear about the potential implications with pairings like this so that young people can make informed decisions.

This is NOT an attack on anyone who likes this ship, nor is it intended to make anyone feel bad about themselves. I also ask that people please not harass people that do ship this. I'm only making this post in hopes that I'll encourage people to think critically about their own behavior, and assess whether or not they feel comfortable with this ship after considering my points.

Here are the reasons why I think Bill/Chip shippers may want to reevaluate how they see this pairing.

Chip is an adult man who is obsessively stalking a child, a child he has attempted to murder on multiple occasions. And Bill is that same child's primary guardian.

Chip is also stalking Bill himself and has tried to murder him more than once. The only time Bill trusted him, it was purely due to a manipulation tactic so that Chip could violate that trust just for the sake of hurting Bill's family.

There may be an implied age difference. I list this reason last because it is implied, not explicit. We do not know Chip's canon age (we do know that Bill is around 40 according to the timeline of Greens' Acres). But we do know that Chip is young enough to canonically flirt with Gloria, a character that is also young enough to canonically be Bill's surrogate daughter figure. One could argue that maybe Gloria is 30, Chip is 35, and Bill is 40, and so they're still all technically within similar age ranges. But the fact that it's a gray area is something worth considering to people who ship this, as others may view it as an age-gap relationship. Bill has also referred to Chip as "son", which isn't something men his age generally do with peers.

Again, this is not an attack on any shippers, nor do I want anyone to harass shippers or crew. This is just me offering another perspective in hopes that people will think a bit more critically about the implications of this ship, and whether or not they feel comfortable normalizing dynamics like these in communities filled with impressionable minors.

first let me just get my few minor complaints with this special out of the way,,

i think this episode really wouldve benefited from a slightly longer run time, like the pacing in the first half of the episode felt like everything was happening a *bit* too quickly

and also like. what was the point of evil family if they werent really going to do much in chips revenge. they shouldve had at the very least like one episode between evil family and chips revenge or somethingggg

putting that aside i actually really enjoyed this episode !!! i was worried about how it was going to go after evil family but it was insane in the best way possible and i feel it was a great way to end the whole chip arc whatever:3

GOD seeing cricket repeatedly go into rage throughout the episode made me so. how do i even explain it. like thats a 10 year old. a little boy. and hes This affected by the Grown Ass Man whos been tormenting and traumatizing him :((

hey so has anybody else thought about the implications of this scene Sorry to my friends who have already heard me talk about this specific scene like 20 times today but it genuinely will not leave my head like its already fucked up that they broke into and trashed the greens Entire house but the implication that they Specifically broke into the bedroom of two children. two Young children. just to trash and wreck it is like,, oh my god . PLUS I DIDNT EVEN REALIZE UNTIL I REWATCHED THE CLIP THE GUY SAYS THEYRE GOING BACK FOR ROUND 2 WHICH.. DAWG

that + the scene where babe tortures bill tilly and alice like those scenes were funny but ALSO HELLO SHES TORTURING AN OLD WOMAN AND A 12 YEAR OLD !??

this episode didnt make me cry but the ending when cricket blows up the chip statue Did make me emotional like ough.. its finally over <3

cricket and remy's plot was also super fun with the giant chicken HEHE was nice to see gwen again too :3 also enjoyed how simple bill's plot was in comparison to the other two

this show genuinely means so much more to me than i can put into words and its so awesome seeing how far it's come. like holy shit. 100 episodes.. thats so cool <3

ive liked this cartoon since i was like 9 / 10 around when it started, got fixated at 14 like a Month before we had to move to a whole new state which is really funny to me bc. why This show of all things at That time. and now im almost 17 like i am Never escaping this show am i

this was a really fun way to celebrate how far this show has come and i loved the callbacks to prev episodes !!

Ok so can we talk about poor Cricket?

The poor guy was mortified when he found out Chip was alive and was coming for him.

And that's putting it lightly. He flat out gets paranoid that if he doesn't do his best to hide, Chip will kill him and his family.

Now to be honest, I thought a paranoid role like this was going to go to Bill.

I thought that Bill's hinted anxiety would come to the surface and that he'll be paranoid because he wants to protect his family.

But no, instead they gave it to Cricket. (Which BTW, I'm not complaining, I like the angle they're going for, because angst)

I mean of course Cricket would be terrified of Chip coming back, the last time he saw him, Chip was literally about to do him and his family in with a helicopter. Twice.

It even gets to the point that he begins seeing things that aren't there.

I also find it interesting because at first, we're led to believe that Cricket wasn't that affected by Chip since in Chipped Off we see him literally dance in relief knowing he's dead on TV. But no, they brought it to attention that deep down he's terrified of Chip because at the end of the day, he's still a kid.

Like I never thought I'd say this, but I think Cricket needs to join the traumatized children's corner with Hunter, Luz, Marcy, Dipper, and Mabel. Then got to therapy with Sasha.
