Draco the wandmaker (Draco + any crafty profession = ❤️ ) I had some difficulties with this pic and went off it v v hard - but this evening I took a look and it’s grown on me!! This version is actually an earlier draft of my final submission for Erised 2018 - I’d decided Harry was all anatomically wrong and redrew him, but on reflection I much prefer this version!!!

Chubby Neville Fest is back!

Hello everyone! Welcome to the second Chubby Neville fest and thank you for your enduring support . This fest is created to celebrate and appreciate chubby Neville and encourage more fan creations of him.

Guideline

All submissions need to be Neville centric.

Neville needs to be portrayed as chubby in all works.

We kindly ask that the submissions are created in a body positive perspective. If you‘re unsure whether or not your idea fits, feel free to reach us.

This is not an anonymous or an exchange fest.

You have until the 9th of June 2019 to create and post your works for the fest.

Submissions can be of any length, detail, or rating. Explicit works are welcome but not a requirement.

Check out last years masterlist for inspiration. :)

All pairings are welcome! Including M/M, M/F, multi and gen works without any pairing. 

Please make sure you use appropriate tags and warnings.

Posting

Works should be posted to the Chubby Neville AO3 collection that will be available on the preceding Friday. Dear lovely person (or people!!) who nominated me in the drarry awards, thank you so much!!! I thought it was a certain friend but they’ve denied it, so to whoever it was, I’m so grateful, a bit awed, and a little embarrassed to tell the truth. <333 I have very complicated thoughts and feelings towards that comic but to know someone thought about it and remembered it is incredibly warming, so thank you <3

I was very specifically thinking about Draco in The Vanishing Department by @dictacontrion while drawing this. Starched collars, heavy robes and fastidiously polished buttons. All very very pleasing things.

I saw Tennessee Williams’ Summer and Smoke at the theatre last night and have been thinking about Alma and Johnny ever since. Or more specifically, Alma, as I hated Johnny. I didn’t find much to support or feel thrilled by in their relationship, (and was SO surprised by my friend who thought it was all terribly romantic!!!) was constantly worried for Alma, dreading her tragic end - which never really came, (though some might have interpreted it that way.) Maybe I’m just not a romantic? Actually, leaving for a wild night at the moonlight casino with a travelling salesman, getting closure from your heartbreak and not ending up married to an abuser is def def a happy ending. Well, Patsy Ferran was  i n c r e d i b l e  as Alma, (the whole show was incredible,) and though I don’t ship them, and though I find this moment from the program i’ve been drawing as very sinister and not romantic AT ALL, here’s some inky fanart!!

1 - Do I prefer traditional drawing or digital?

Traditional defs. While I’m excited by the possibilities of digital painting I’m not practised enough for it to feel as easy and intuitive as drawing traditionally, and as drawing is a language, a way of recording and communicating to others what’s around you or what you want to say, the easier it is to get what’s in your brain and on to the page the better.

18 - What are you currently trying to improve on? Gosh, hard!! I’m trying to find an illustration style that feels natural and real and interesting to me. I’m finding it so difficult! I’ve spent most of my life (and as u know, in my job,) trying to make art that looks like the thing, or an interpretation of something that exists... And it’s been a huge change over these past couple of years, since I started getting into fanart, of trying to invent a thing that stands on its own for its own sake. So yeah, i’m trying to improve my way of doing this... to find a way of approaching things/drawing style that isn’t too heavily influenced by other artists or photos, that is my own and that I feel proud of.

29 - How do you usually start on a big piece? Sooo lots of sketches! And when that doesn’t work lots of posing in selfies, or getting other people to pose, or trawling google images. Then I work on the composition in small thumbnails if there’s a background, and work out the final shapes of the figures, then I lightly sketch it all out in pencil, then maybe watercolour pencil if it’s going to be in watercolour, and then I start building up the painting gradually (and rub out the pencil as soon as I have the first layer of thin paint on,)
