Assignment 4 in mentorship class:
I was instructed to choose 2 characters from my previous "gesture" homework, then: - give them some basic form (but no *lighting* per se) - do 3 design iterations of each Iterations are completely new territory for me, and my painting is still slow and nooby, but I enjoyed having license to push funky shapes and proportions.

Assignment 3 in mentorship class: Mentor wanted me to specifically push my gestures. After analysing references, I decided to generate poses by starting with “flow” lines, then designing forms around them. Still finding it awkward, but I think I did learn a thing or two.

Assignment 2 in mentorship class: Mentor's feedback on Assignment 1 was that my designs are awkwardly stuck in uncanny valley (the no-mans-land between realistic and stylistic); so my next assignment was to "pick a lane" and push in that direction. Now here's a bunch of designs attempting to look more obviously stylized.

I'm a student in a 1-month, intensive character design mentorship. 1st assignment is to create 20 thumbnail designs. Trying a new method of starting with silhouettes instead of line sketches, then blocking in tones and trying to achieve good graphic read. I chose a theme of "shapeshifting tribes".
5 groups: 1) birds 2) ungulates 3) dragons 4) felines 5) aquatic

“Annual Visitation” I'm trying to learn how to do environments, with focus on mood and storytelling rather than design or rendering.

--- Tenuous Escape --- Inspired somewhat by a D&D game in which we fought harpies :D Also inspired by my need to work on scenes, storytelling, and lighting... gotta break my tendency to turn everything into a portrait or character design sheet. xP

(VERY SKETCHY, I’M SORRY. Playing with new software.)
Oanna in her younger days, when she loved practicing the waterspout technique at twilight, in her favoriate lagoon. A nostalgic memory held dear during the later years of constant warfare.

Someone posted a cutesie unicorn pic and said that's what I look like (cuz of my rainbow hair). This was my response.

Trying hairstyles on one of my most beloved characters ^^ ...Altho actually his hair mostly defaults to boring / slighty-dweebish because he just can't be bothered doing anything with it.

Haven't touched coloured pencils in years, so came back and just wanted to have fun with blends and vibrant colour combos. No idea what I drew, but now it’s spawned a whole new tribe of characters in Hidden Wings 8)
