Beyond Birthday Music Playlist

Day 5- Wants

Because…y’all want a Beyond Birthday playlist, right? (I’m grasping at straws here) 

Also, this is a real playlist I’ve had before this week started, because Beyond deserves one.

I’m gonna be ranting about most of these, so if you just want the song names, they’re in bold for you to listen to.

Brutus by The Buttress- 

…come on, I had to. It’s one of like, the only two BB animatics on YouTube. If you guys haven’t seen it, go check it out. The song is full of jealousy, with hints of admiration.

Girls by Marina and the Diamonds-

Okay, this song is very BB coded. I imagine the first line he’s mentioning that he looks like L but thinks like a killer. In the song, it would go over how the successors were supposed to behave. But Beyond isn’t taking that. He’s just very sassy in this one.

(Also second verse “write such good stories, oh their mothers must be proud. Making money off your insecurity and doubt” is just B making fun of Mello writing LABB) And Beyond just wants the last laugh. Go listen to it, change some words in your head, it’ll be a blast.

Problems by Mother Mother-

This one is Beyond complaining that he’ll never be able to be as “perfect” as L is. Also a bit of a reference to A in this one. Also I love the line “I seem to find myself with the craziest of dames. They get the ball on me, not to forget the chains”. Like…how is that not Naomi? 

Himininn Er Ao Hrynja…. By Olafur Arnalds-

Sorry, it’s a long title, but just searching up that first word will help you find the song immediately. It’s that audio of the “how did I forget? How?” Basically, the song is a memory of him and A, who asks him what happens after death. B claims that you become nothing, one with Mu. This terrifies A, and Beyond looks at A’s numbers, promising himself not to let her die. But…it’s really depressing to look at the numbers so much, so he didn’t. He thought he’d remember when she’d try to die. But he forgot. And he was too late. She died despite still fearing Mu.

Friend, Please by Twenty-One Pilots-

I personally like to make Beyond scared to lose his best and only friend, and this song is all about him worrying about A’s depression. He keeps asking her to let him see her eyes so he can check what numbers she has. Beyond loves her so much and just wants her to know that. 

Abbey by Mitski-

Beyond is questioning why he was born with the eyes, and if he is really human. What does he actually need to survive? His only hope in life to be good enough to be the next L is tainted with his pessimism of not believing he’ll ever live up to anyone’s expectations. B finds himself longing, waiting and wishing that L will just die already. In all honesty, he wants to be free from the cage of Wammy’s House

Want You Gone by Portal 2-

Okay, this is a really silly, fun one. Au where L releases B from jail because he believes the successor program was a nightmare and made Beyond into who he was. Maybe B is supposed to help him in the future, maybe not.

But the whole song they’re just insulting each other lol. First verse is L to Beyond, hoping that maybe he’ll be left alone if he helps B out this once and everything between them will be buried.  Second verse mentions B’s shinigami eyes and he taunts L’s remaining life span. “Goodbye my only friend…oh, did you think I meant you? That would be funny, if it weren’t…so sad.” That’s Beyond taunting L, a little callback if you will to L telling Light he was his first friend. Honestly, this song is just fun to listen to.

Stalker’s Tango by Autoheart-

This one‘s fun too. B talks to L and Naomi in this one. He’s taunting, believes he has full control over the situation and that they’ll never forget such a case like his. Also, his repeated mantra of “love me” sounds like a demand but also sounds like a desperate plea. 

And that’s all I got for now. Hope there was something new for you guys.

Day 4- Mimicry

I had a lot of fun with where the eyes look lol. There’s tiny details depending on which character you watch, so I hope y’all enjoy that (The songs are Mind Electric, Mind Electric Demo 4 and Labyrinth, by Miracle Musical)

This was heavily inspired by Jacket_Pigeon’s “Doctor I can’t tell if I’m not me” animatic on YouTube. Please check them out, they have hardly any views despite great animation.

Impressions

(Day 3, Prompt- False idols)

Beyond and A try to convince L to talk to them by giving him cake. They succeed.

(I’m only half joking. Also, this chapter comes right after the baking chapter I mentioned in a previous post)

Beyond watched the plate in A’s hands shake as she stared at the plain spruce door in front of them. B reached out, acting as if he meant to stabilize it when in reality, he was trying to scoop some of the strawberry glaze from the cake into his mouth. Despite the trembling, Atlas was quick to realize what he was doing and smack his hand away before he even grazed the plate.

“This is for L, B. We can’t just walk in there empty handed and expect him to like us.”

“You’re the one who wants L to like you,” Beyond rolled his eyes, his hands retreating into his pants’ pockets. “I never try to impress anyone I don’t know. Even Wammy, and he was nice! So why would I try to please some stranger who probably went to the University of Cambridge and got a stuck-up attitude out of it?”

“You tried to impress me with your grades.”

“Completely different situation,” Beyond waved his hand in the air as if to brush away the idea. He went to try the doorknob when A grabbed his hand, shaking her head with a fierce look in her eyes. With a loud inhale and exhale, she let go of B, reached up and knocked in the pattern she had seen Mr. Wammy use.

Sure, Beyond was curious of what L actually looked like, but his attention was focused on Atlas’s reaction instead of the doorway. He didn’t dare to turn his gaze, not even when he heard the click of a lock being undone and the creaking of the opening entrance. B had expected a bit of shock, then maybe a mix of awe and relief upon finally being able to meet the one who set in stone what their futures were supposed to be. But A’s eyes were wider than he expected, the shock never diminishing, long enough that Beyond finally gave in and looked at who answered the door. A sense of bewilderment overtook him. 

It was a kid. Sure, he looked maybe a year or so older than Beyond, but B was only fifteen. And the way L dressed…it was less of an expensive suit and tie like B had imagined and more like the typical plain clothes provided for children at Wammy’s house if they didn’t ask for anything different for their birthday or Christmas. His hair was unkempt and his posture was horrendous. Beyond’s mouth hung open, but he couldn’t find a word to say. 

He’s…like us? I actually have a chance of surpassing him?

L seemed just as taken aback as A and B had been (that, or his eyes always looked gaping). He simply took one step back from the door, retreating a bit further into his room, and attempted to shut the door on them. Snapping out of her stupor, Atlas blocked the door with her foot. 

“Wait! We just want to talk to you about a few things! Ask some questions…about our studies.”

“You are not Quillsh Wammy, and you are not permitted to enter,” L spoke from behind the door in a low mumble, still pressing harder against it despite the obstacle. B’s jaw clenched slightly, as he nudged Atlas away and shoved the door back enough for him to slip halfway into the room.  The curtained windows and lack of lights besides a few glowing computer screens made the room quite dark despite it only being four in the afternoon. 

Beyond glared down at L, who he wasn’t sure would be taller or not if he actually tried to stand up straight. 

“Well, Wammy and Roger know all about us. We’re your successors.” L’s firm grip on the door handle loosened before his hand fell to his side. As he stared at B, Beyond realized that L hadn’t blinked once.

“Successors…” the detective muttered, putting a finger up to his mouth and slightly biting its nail. A pit began forming in Beyond’s stomach before he could even conjure up coherent enough thoughts to understand why. Luckily, his “hero” answered for him. 

“I have successors…?” B’s heart thudded in his chest, the sensation rising up into his ears as he inhaled sharply. 

Atlas peeked her head in, offering meekly, “We have cake?”

“Well, this…is new information.” The smartest detective in the world currently had his knees tucked up into his chest, holding a fork only with his thumb and pointer finger as he poked gingerly at the slice of strawberry pound cake in front of him. A and B sat across from L in two lavish arm chairs. There didn’t seem to be any sort of sofa in sight, but there were many chairs scattered about. For a secret room on the fourth floor, it sure was big. 

Atlas seemed happy to just be allowed to sit in L’s presence. And while Beyond had began to feel a bit relieved that he didn’t have to deal with another adult, he was mostly frustrated by the fact that L hadn’t been informed of the successor program. B thought the two of them had been special. He had been training for eight years now, and the person he had been becoming didn’t even know of his existence?

“How does that even happen?” Beyond asked, his fingers digging into his pants as his eyes burned holes into the table.

L gave a shrug, finally piercing the piece of cake with the utensil and shoving it into his mouth. While the detective didn’t smile, the wrinkles that had been appearing on his face as he pondered the tale told to him finally smoothed away. 

“I try not to leave my abode too often. It’s quite dangerous for the smartest man alive to show his face to others, especially tattling children.” So maybe he was stuck up despite staying at Wammy’s House. “That, and to be honest, I just haven’t had much luck when it comes to connecting with other people.”

“Why’s that?” Atlas leaned forward in her chair, empathy leaking into her voice. B felt a spark of jealously before deciding to keep his focus on L. Of course she would care. He should too. But…it would be nice if A gave Beyond a little more concern here and there. It felt…nice to be worried about. Especially when people like Roger didn’t seem to care much about feelings. 

L glanced up from his dessert, a smile finally tugging at his lips. It looked forced, like he was specifically doing it for their sake instead of his own. His monotone voice took on a bit of a more playful tone. “I may or may not have beaten up most of the other children at the orphanage when I arrived. But to be fair, they did attack me first. It was justice.” Although Beyond probably should’ve added that to the mental tally he was keeping about L’s possible arrogance, he let that one slide because he knew exactly how that felt. It was awful trying to interact with other kids who began to separate themselves from a child who was constantly either screaming or crying about numbers and names. 

The intrusive thought now in his mind, Beyond didn’t even have time to stop himself from shifting his gaze up above L’s head.

With a small gasp, he clenched his teeth together and dropped his eyes to the ground again. Don’t do the math, just don’t do the math. He knew how the numbers worked, but that was something he learned to keep to himself. The only thing that kept Beyond from going insane was when he stopped looking people in the eyes and triggering their numbers to appear, which later became an allowance to look at people as long as he didn’t look above them or accidentally solve the math. It was such a force of habit ingrained into him from his youth after watching his parents die, wondering that if he did the math and figured out when people died, could he save others’ from their fate? No, he couldn’t, and that destroyed him. The best thing to do was live in ignorance, like everybody else. To do that, he tried to bring his attention back to the conversation between A and L, who were discussing how annoying it was for adults outside of Wammy’s to not treat them seriously when it came to solving cases. 

“…so when I’m in here, I remain safe.” L finished, both his reasoning for hiding away and the slice of cake. Without even needing to ask, A began to cut him another slice. Beyond didn’t know if it was because of her big heart or knowing that it would get L to talk. Maybe a bit of both. After all, Atlas had been the first to suggest the theory that L loved sweets when she showed B one of the shopping receipts which had numerous desserts labeled despite the other kids only receiving maybe one or two of them. 

“I will say,” L shoved a larger chunk of cake into his mouth than before, and continued speaking with his mouth full, “ I am disappointed that Watari never said anything to me about the two of you. Successors, labeled Alternative and Backup, A and B, just to follow my title and positioning.” Beyond scoffed, folding his arms and leaning back in the chair while shutting his eyes. If the world’s greatest detective was going to sit like that in front of them barefoot, B doubted he would be scolded for leaning back this way.

“Imagine how we feel.”

“I do.” Beyond peeled his eyes open and met L’s steady gaze. There was still a lingering cloud of irritation that enveloped him, but B began to realize that his resentment wasn’t actually directed at L. Rather, it was towards Roger and Wammy. While it was easy and felt in his nature to blame Roger for this, this sort of behavior from Wammy sort of hurt. Despite being the first adult at the orphanage to greet you, the kids hardly saw him. He was still kind and caring when you did see him, but it was maybe once a month for five minutes, or maybe hearing him give a group of kids instructions for an upcoming event but have no one on one time with him.

Yet, while there was a bit of jealousy towards L for numerous reasons, meeting him in person made B begin to feel a sort of kinship towards him that he hadn’t felt before. If the adults were smart, doing these meet and greets with L would actually boost kids’ desires to do better. Although…in retrospect, maybe it was best that wasn’t the case, seeing how L had been intimidated by the sight of even seeing another person around his age. 

Beyond felt an arm wrap around his left and immediately knew it was A. As much as she would slap him softly for things she didn’t like, she would hug and latch on to him for comfort. L’s eyes shifted between the two of them, his gaze furrowing, as he opened his mouth to say something. He clicked it shut again when he saw the look in Beyond’s eyes, begging not to bring it up. With a sigh, L simply finished the rest of the cake. 

“So…do they teach you about crime cases then? Since you’re following in my footsteps?”

There was a flicker in Atlas’s eyes are she straightened up, gripping B’s arm tighter. It was like she had been waiting for this question. Come to think of it, she most definitely had been. 

“Yes, B and I have helped solve seventy-eight cases so far as well as our instructed classes about criminology. On top of that, I’ve been studying psychology and biology.” 

L nodded and looked at B, expecting him to list what he was good at as well. Instead, Beyond just shrugged with a fake smile. 

“And B,” A added sharply when she realized Beyond wasn’t going to speak, “is good at math and physics, as well as understanding and creating puzzles, which was helpful for messed up criminals who played games with the police involving their murder victims.” Atlas then dropped her shoulders with a sigh, admitting, “We’re both trying to be good successors, but I have no idea how far behind you we are.”

The detective bit his fork, narrowing his eyes at his plate. “Well, you don’t need to worry about that. Not yet anyway. I don’t plan on dying anytime soon.”

“I didn’t mean to offend you!” Atlas stood up abruptly, releasing B and bowing deeply. She slowly rose back up, looking to the side at one of the computers. “It’s just…you have to understand, we’ve been spending our lives trying to be you, or at least good enough so that people won’t realize when you’re gone. Which…sounds kinda bad when I say that out loud,“ A trailed off with a nervous chuckle. Beyond frowned at L’s shifting gaze which dissected something that B couldn’t see. 

“Well, I’m going to talk to Watari about this, but you two should probably get going,” the detective stood up with a huff. A familiar disappointment was brewing within B. He thought they would’ve had more time to chat. He slowly rose, debating with himself for a moment, before sticking out his hand for L to shake. 

“Thank you for speaking with us.” Atlas seemed a bit surprised by B’s behavior. He wasn’t usually so cordial. To be honest, Beyond was more so doing this as a test. But neither of them needed to know that. L looked at B, at his hand, grimaced, closed his eyes and inhaled slowly, before exhaling with open eyes, smiling, and shaking Beyond’s hand. The detective had passed. 

“Sorry for bugging you, I didn’t mean for us to leave on a bad note,” A picked up her plate and  gripped it tightly so as to release some of her nervousness. L seemed confused for a moment before replying,

“I was not bothered once I understood the reasoning. But I’m afraid it’s almost time for Wammy to check in on me, and I believe it would go over better if I explained why the two of you were here after you left.”

“Oh…” A’s cheeks grew slightly pink, and Beyond just knew she was beating herself up about not remembering that Watari would check in at five to give L a meal. 

“That’s a good point, let’s go before we get yelled at.” B grabbed Atlas’s hand and began leading her to the door. 

“And just one more thing,” the detective called out, stopping both successors in their tracks. “I’d like to know your names. Your real names.” 

B froze, an unexpected and confusing feeling locking him in place. He looked towards A for permission, to which she hesitantly nodded. 

“It’s…Beyond and Atlas.”

“Well then,” L smiled, this time it looking far more natural. He had a twinkle in his determined eyes. “Until we meet again. I would like to have more of your homemade baked goods, if you don’t mind, Atlas. They’re better than store bought. And Beyond, I’ll talk to Wammy about this whole successor thing. There’s an eighty-nine percent chance that I’ll win that debate.” B smiled, letting out a huff before leaving with A. Only Atlas noticed on the way out that L had retrieved a small bottle of hand sanitizer and was rubbing it against his hands, but she didn’t feel the need to bring it up to Beyond. 

Beyond slammed down two twenty pound notes onto the girl’s desk. He knew she was an artist, a pretty good one too. Annoyance for the out of the blue interruption became curiousity when she realized they were meant for her.

“You draw mugshots, correct?” 

“Yeah…?” 

“You can have these, just draw exactly what I tell you to.”

Later, B would tuck the drawing of L into his dresser drawer for safe keeping. Who knows, maybe L would stop talking to him and A? What if Beyond needed it? After letting it sit in the drawer for only five seconds, he opened it again and stared at the drawing. He took a strand of hair that pressed against his forehead and gently brushed it to the side, effectively mirroring the hair in front of L’s forehead. It was subconscious, he convinced himself.

Nothing more than that.

~~~ Author Note- Yeah, L did not win when arguing about the successor program lol. And it really put a damper on his pride because he was confident he would win.

Jdrama Reaction Ep 6+7

Ryuk is such a tempter. He tells Light to Kill Misa after already telling him to kill his dad

Misa isn’t just begging Rem to kill her, Light can hear her through the phone! Despite saying earlier that he’d kill her if this happened, he still sounds in disbelief and sad.

OOOHOOOHOOO Light panicked yelling at his dad to release Misa or else she’ll die (‘cuz of Rem, and in this universe, it’s less obvious that Rem cares for Misa so Light genuinely believes it will happen). But man! He really wants Misa to live despite all his big talk earlier.

Mogi running in, I love him.

Soichiro doesn’t even have to vouch for his son in this show (which makes sense since the two of them have a complicated relationship), Mogi and Matsu defend Light instead.

Light left a note behind. Camera zooms in on note and thankfully Soichiro is like “a trip?” Because the captions on the app I’m using to watch this don’t translate the note lol.

L: Let’s put Light on the wanted list 😼 Mogi: HE HASNT BROKEN THE LAW!!!

Light: I am Kira :( Everyone:(jolts out of seats)

Rem sees it as a game too?? Not just Ryuk?!

Watari says please enjoy to Light after bringing him food

Aizawa stayed behind to help Light while the others investigated. Light’s acting has gotten better.

Okay the lie detector scene…if you’re really nervous, typically lie detectors sense the spike in your heart rate, no matter if you’re lying or not. So whether Light knew it or not, it was smart for him to get worked up before the detector, but also L shouldn’t have felt so confident the machine was working after it said he lied to a simple question, since he’s obviously breathing heavily

Okay weird thing to say, but I love that when characters in this show lose memory of death note, they go limp/ragdoll.

L checks the lie detector and sees that Light “isn’t lying” about being Kira and you can just see the panic/disbelief begin forming in his eyes. Like, no he can’t be wrong, the machine is wrong. He just stumbles a bit and asks the “are you Kira” question again.

I don’t know…your “friend” just minutes ago smirked after you asked him if he had fun torturing you…

Aizawa asking if L is finally done and when it’s a no, he storms out without another word. Honestly, respect it, I would’ve done the same.

Soichiro considered resigning because of his son….

L noticed the change in Light’s behavior and seems to not be having fun anymore.

L: I never sent you an email Task force: Then who? L:(looks at camera in frustration) Near:

Near’s like “okay sure investigate Light, but here’s the actual Kira while you’ve been distracted”

Dude the Soichiro confronts Light scene is so heartbreaking, especially since Light isn’t lying, he truly feels the emotions we see

It’s time to put the dog down… 😔

Dude the trauma. Light fell to the ground.

The anger and hurt in Soichiro’s voice as he asked L if he was satisfied. He hated putting his son through that.

Episode 7

The episode starts with L wanting to handcuff Light. Light is furious and while he did grab L by the shoulders, for a moment it looked like he was grabbing him by the neck

L: Light is an excellent student because I made his talent blossom Light:(thinking) what in the world… L:(smirks)(uncuffs chains that were on for five minutes)

Something about Mogi and Soichiro just having a casual moment in a restaurant makes me happy

Misa: Light!! I missed you! This guy is a sadist with a capital S L: I’m L not S >:(

When L says “we’ll infiltrate Yotsuba” he really means Light will do the dirty work lol

Okay, so the spy in this show is known as Babel and has a “B” in the special font on their screens. It makes me wish Beyond existed in this universe and he wanted to help in this way. But it being Near is really cute too.

What a trio! They are so polite, they would never spy on Yotsuba! 

L? Causing Light to be in pain because of a prank? More likely than you think.

As the Taskforce are panicking over Babel, L and Watari and just proud.

Awww Light was so happy to succeed! He’s part of the team :]

L and Watari just keep the force in the dark about Babel got as long as possible for no reason lol.

Light: (thinking back to Lind L Tailor) The guy isn’t even a criminal, you can’t let him die L: So it’s okay for criminals to die?

L loves his cat and mouse games.

Near is so adorable, so happy at L’s gift of praise.

Oooo Mikami’s furious…he wants to delete people so bad

Memory loss Light admits he wants to be friends with Ryuzaki! Awww

Mikami sees Light for the first time and is ticked off at him intervening for Misa. Boy will that change.

L telling Near he wants Light to be Kira but would be fine if he isn’t. Aghhhh. The friendship in this show!!

I wanna scoop these two up in a hug and prevent Light from ever touching that notebook ever again

Noooooo L saying Near will have to finish the job and Near is just confused.

Near:(five minutes ago) Don’t worry about Mello! Mello: Dude Why can’t he stop playing cat and mouse and just kill Kira? Near: O-O

Hahaha, Misa nonchalantly saying someone from Yotsuba wanted dinner with her, both Light and Matsu hesitate a moment before realizing, standing up and both shouting in sync “from Yotsuba?!?!”

Near being the one to bet on Namikawa not being Kira instead of Light helps build rapport for being smart enough to take on the case.

L reaaaally wants to see Kira kill someone.

The poor cop Higuchi talked to….he was just doing his job.

L refuses to be defeated by an idiot Kira, such as Higuchi. It reminds me of Anime Light thinking Near was inferior to L.

Dude Matsuda as live bait is so risky. A bright light instead of using masks is also risky.

Light shouting “Ryuzaki” while tackling L to save him. L knowing that him being saved was probably too much even for Kira to pretend since Light could’ve obviously just pretended to “been in shock” and not quick enough to react.

L and Light speed walking to the notebook, while L’s hands are behind his back and then he just snatches the bag from Light.

I love how this is when L believes in shinigami, the moment he sees one.

Light looks like he’s gonna throw up when he gets his memories back. And L is too focused on Rem and questioning his life rather than see Light’s reaction. Instead Soichiro points it out.

Awww when Soichiro helped L up, he was even more curved back then usual and was sort of ducking behind Soichiro to put distance between him and the shinigami (Soichiro hasn’t seen Rem yet)

Light only had memory loss for one episode lol.

Okay, so you know how Light will lose memories of book again if he doesn’t kill Higuchi to get ownership? What if when L was leaving, he yoinked the book back to be investigated, leaving Light no time to kill and completely forgetting his Kira plan again. Fun au idea, especially in this universe.

Dude L’s eyes widen when Higuchi dies and he immediately looks in Light’s direction.

He said the line! Just as he planned!

Prompt- Puppy love, jam, sweetness. Never thought one of my brightest colored pieces would be for death note lol.

So, I didn’t have the energy to write, but this scene would actually be part of a fic about Beyond and A that I want to write. In this chapter, B convinced Atlas to let him help her bake, one of A’s biggest hobbies. The cake they made was strawberry jam pound cake, and he loved that experience so much that whenever he ate the jam, he thought of her. (Atlas made most of the dessert, but Beyond had been tasked with making the jam for the glaze)

These two have crushes on each other but never admit it out loud 🤦‍♀️ (We need more art of A on this website, please, I beg you-)

Also, that is my Beyond design before he started looking like L.

I want to say thanks to all the drivers who were patient with me crossing roads as a pedestrian. I logically know that pedestrians have the right of way and whoever gets to a four way stop first is supposed to go, but I have big anxiety over getting hit and believe that cars creeping means they won’t stop for me. Also it’s this thing where I have problems making decisions and then freeze, because I want to process if I can actually go or not. My fears get worse when someone is annoyed and waving me on. So thank you to those who waved me on with a smile, even if you were secretly annoyed. You spared me from less anxiety.

Sometimes people not going when they’re supposed to isn’t because they aren’t paying attention or don’t know the rules, but they’re indecisive and afraid like I am (which only gets worse when I try to cross when I’m supposed to and that just so happens to be the day someone doesn’t stop for me when they should’ve)

Just thanks to y’all being nice, and know that I probably mumbled a bunch of “thank you”s while crossing.

Jdrama Reaction Ep. 4-5

I like how Watari physically takes action in L’s plans. We didn’t get to see him do that much, rather than that one sniper scene in the anime (which was epic)

Light: If the 2nd Kira was a friend, why didn’t they show their face? M: Oh I don’t know maybe ‘cause Misa also heard the police sirens and didn’t want to get caught either

I know Rem is warning Misa about Light, but all I could focus on were the sound effects used for whenever the shiningamis move. It’s a really weird noise.

Also, maybe it’s just the translation, but how would Misa not know what the word dread means? Are they dumbing her down already ;-; Or is it lost in translation and it actually means she’s asking what dread feels like?

Also shinigami walking through walls while people are trying to talk to them will never not be funny to me lol

I also like how Light explained the paper trick at start of episode but not the door handle, so it’s a cool little reveal later.

This L is very more “I do what I want” than anime/manga L. In the anime, Soichiro agreed to the cameras. Here, L didn’t even ask. Also, in the anime, when L didn’t get his way (such as Yotsuba arc when Light and Soichiro both told him he shouldn’t sacrafice someone’s life for the case), he ended up sulking and looking for a different way that people would agree with, or at least turn a blind eye to. But this L goes “screw you” and just does it.

Just watch how this scene is filmed lol

It was considerate that in the anime, only L and Soichiro could view the footage (so soichiro had privacy and L could be thorough) But since this show has a woman on the task force, they’re able to ask her to do it for Sayu’s sake (and the Goda family’s sake).

In anime, it felt like a serious tactic to only let Ryuk get apples after finding out camera locations. While that’s still the case here, I feel like Light is a lot more playful/teasing, rather than just needing to get something out of Ryuk.

Interesting, Light feeds Ryuk Apple outside despite all this. And Ryuk still wants to do it. Like, makes sense long run, but anime Light just let bro suffer until the cameras were gone.

Everytime Matsuda apologizes to someone, whether they heard him say something or not, he just shouts it. So good.

Soichiro: Mogi, Can you cover me for break? Mogi: Of course L: Yup you earned it Soichiro: Nevermind I don’t want to anymore

What kid watches the news of all things during class lol? Also poor Light’s friend. It’s so funny, he’s being emotionally vulnerable and Light is just tuning him out and thinking about L.

Matsuda exclaiming with pure joy that everyone on the cameras was innocent makes me wish I had his optimism.

Question for y’all who have seen this show, what is the area where Misa and Light meet up called? Earlier Light said it was a park, but I’ve never seen something like it before. There was water nearby, and the water was surrounded by an overhang that had stair/seats like an amphitheater (but instead of a stage, there was water)

Lol Light facepalms when Misa admits she carries the death note with her, and she immediately feels bad. She wants his love so bad and this version of Light doesn’t even hate her, he’s just worried and is concerned since she doesn’t have the same level of intellect and planning as he does

Misa calls Light her hero for killing her parents’ murderer and Light still claims he isn’t a hero. He’s still so human! Ah!

Like, I like this design better than the suit he wears in the anime (I still like the suit, and I understand why he wears it and the little irony between his and L’s clothing styles vs who they actually are, but these clothes are aesthetically pleasing)

I love the handshakes these two give each other. Cuz the case is all a game to them. Eh?

Okay okay okay, I know Light wants to murder L and I know L knows this and so does Watari but….Light giving L ticket after L says he wants to go to Misa’s concert and Watari beginning to smile in the background is just mwah. I know the original writer of Death Note said L was lying when he said Light was his first friend but man do I love the fan quote of “L and Kira are enemies, but Light and Ryuzaki would be friends”. There’s so many moments like that in this show

Agh, the L and Light interactions in this show are sooooooo good!

Also just wanted to say that I’m glad y’all are enjoying these. I’ve been depressed and not able to post much art or books lately, so reviewing this show let’s me feel like I’m doing something productive while I work on those other things. Can’t wait to rant more about this show again soon.

Also, fair warning, since I’ve watched this show before, I sometimes talk about future spoilers that happen in later episodes because ✨foreshadowing✨

Light just wants Misa to be happy, doesn’t care about getting known by her <3

L cries over soap opera, but Watari clears throat so as to not catch him off guard. L immediately goes back to a neutral expression, but if you look closely, his eyes are still really watery.

Ryuk causing Light to shout out during class felt like a sibling bugging you like “I’m not touching you” until you snap while in front of your parents.

Light: Hush, or I won’t get the money necessary to buy you more apples

Ryuk: Uhhhh work hard!

Dude, watching the policeman scare off the stalker by glaring, at first you think it’s protectiveness of target, but no, on rewatch you realize it’s “she’s mine, back off”.

Aizawa saying he wants to go with Soichiro to handle the Kira case reminds me of a child insisting they go shopping with their parents. Awww, Light’s dad making Mogi watch over Aizawa and Matsuda in his place, that’s adorable.

L smirking at the members entering the building after Soichiro claimed he would help L by himself.

Ryuk told Light about Misa’s death because of sentiment, and said he was very human. Interesting. Especially compared to Anime Light not having any sentiment for Anime Misa. 

Near looked so small and scared in this scene, but I couldn’t show the full screen ‘cause I don’t want to have to tag this post for the painting that was seen above him.

Also Near’s already worried about gods of death. I feel that in the original manga, L was smarter than Near and Mello, but I feel like jdrama Near is smarter than Jdrama L. 

L actually wants to meet a shinigami if they do exist. Ironic

L laying on the ground, Watari meets his gaze instead of L moving to meet Watari’s gaze. Little details about these two

Dude Light having the criminal shoot himself in the stomach is so risky. Like, manga/anime Light having the criminal run into streets and get hit by car could seem like a plausible normal death if Light wasn’t being investigated. But a criminal shooting himself in the stomach after showing no signs of no care for his life just screams Kira.

L’s face, just the “seriously?” 

Light’s about to cry-and for good reason. Imagine knowing something bad would happen to someone you cared about, you thought you found a way to save them, someone believed you and is willing to be the key piece in helping you save them, just to be backstabbed by that same person and realizing it’s too late for you to do anything to save the one you loved. Like-the whole situation sucks

Yukida’s a “nice guy”….

I’m sorry but usually the notebook is shown falling slowly in the anime (cuz drama) but it just flops down behind Misa lol

L freaking Light out with the phone call…that scene made me lose my mind with Light during my first viewing. Because of the certainty in L’s voice, I thought Light was gonna get arrested and the memory loss arc would start sooner than I thought.

Episode 3

Light’s in tears, poor baby. Almost panic attack version 3

L talking about not needing to be invited to Raye’s wedding and Raye retorting L would if he revealed his name is pretty funny. But I also wonder if despite his loyalty, Raye is mad at L. It kinda sounds like L won’t let Raye go get married with his fiancé until the Kira case is solved. Which…yikes, we all know how long that took.

NOOOO LIGHT crying in front of Ryuk! I would have a meltdown after all of that too. Ryuk gives him fake sympathy

Dude, the scene with Soichiro and that cop coming into the house to “arrest Light” made me so anxious the first time. It’s one of the things I love about this show: all of its plot twists I genuinely never saw coming and took a moment to make sense to me.

He was gonna write his dad’s name…even though the other guy was there and he doesn’t know that guy’s name. Smart move buddy. Interesting to learn that Light’s already “willing” (I say in quotes because he was very conflicted but still began writing) to kill his dad, despite one of the first catalysts for Light using the death note being to save his dad.

Ryuk seems genuinely confused why Misa ain’t dead. His voice is less energetic

Light sees Raye’s still alive, and hunches his back as he walks away, sulking. It’s all over his body language and facial expressions lol.

L calling all suspects must’ve made so many people scared. Imagine getting his message as a voicemail. Also this made me lose some of my anxiety for Light getting caught on my first viewing, before resulting in me laughing out loud, because L probably made himself sound just as convinced in the recording that the recipients were Kira. And in reality he’s like “well I’m still not one hundred percent sure ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ “

The flashbacks in this show kill me. Poor child Light and his little toy gun.

Mello: We could be so strong! Near: Hmmm do you mean by killing people

Light’s acting is getting better. His conversation with his dad about L investigating him is convincing. Also this version of Light wants his dad to quit so as not to get hurt (and obviously not get in Light’s way). Interesting vs manga/anime version where Light tells his dad he was proud and wanted his dad to keep investigating (so Light looks less suspicious and can keep getting information about how the police suspect him).

Okay it’s an intense scene with Raye and Light, but it cuts to L listening closely with Watari. He passed Watari one of his drink (applesauce?) thingies, but it was just blown up to look full, so all Watari got was air. Little trickster…

He said the goodbye Raye Penber quote! Although…it feels less dramatic because he’s not saying it directly to dying man in front of him. 

Raye was smart for waiting for Light and playing dead.

Penber’s gonna shoot a child.

Family is both of these two’s motivators for needing to live  ;-;

Death Note Jdrama Rewatch Reaction

I’m rewatching the JDrama, and I thought I’d point out parts that I liked in each episode (as well as some photos)

Light looks so happy to see Misa. (Manga/Anime Light could never-)

Light trying to erase the name five seconds after writing it , and panicking because it isn’t working hurts my heart. Like, it just feels so human.

Light unlocks panic attack version one after realizing the motorcycle accident was in fact not an accident.

I do wonder if this version of Light never heard people were happy that the bully died, would he have stopped?

Aizawa and Matsuda feuding, we love to see it. 

I didn’t remember that child Light in the flashback was the one who was calling his dad multiple times because his mom was dying. Like, it makes sense, but it’s so sad.

Officer didn’t even try defending himself against Otoharada before getting stabbed. Like, dude had a few seconds to realize the knife was in the criminal’s hands. I’m not saying he should have been ready immediately, but I feel like even if the cop was frozen in fear, he could’ve put his arms out in front of him like people do when they think something dangerous will hit them. But he just stands there lol.

Light says Mr. Matsuda. Also Matsuda is such a tea spiller, especially in this episode. Bet these two did it all the time. Man I love the world building with the task force in this show.

 “if you’re real, death note, kill for me”. Buddy, it already did that, lol, I think it’s pretty real. Also reminds me of Death note musical, the little song before Light kills the criminal on tv.

Light’s guilt of murder, even after it had to do with a man threatening his family.  (HE APOLOGIZES TO HIS DAD FOR DOING WHAT HE’S DONE, JUST TO SAVE HIS DAD)

Say what you want, but Light’s reaction is completely justified when seeing Ryuk. Bro literally says “wanna die?” It’s another worldly being. Sleep paralysis demon dude. I would lose my marbles too.

Light yeets notebook off of building. Imagine if someone else just picked it up.

Noooo, don’t jump. Poor baby boi. I wonder if Ryuk would’ve caught Light if he tried to jump just to keep up the entertainment.

Ryuk tries convincing Light to keep it, but Light doesn’t want it. Decides to keep it so that people like those he killed won’t get the note. Man…

It’s also interesting because unlike other death note universes, in this one, Ryuk did technically choose Light. He watched Light, and then dropped the book in front of him at night when no one else was around, since he knew Light would be tempted to kill the bully. 

L: I Wanna go to japan Watari: They may not want us L: Make them. W: Okidoki

Also it feels so strange seeing L be in the show physically visible before meeting the task force members. 

1 month later and Light’s already going, “Ryuk don’t startle me 🙄”

I love Watari in this show, it’s the most love I’ve ever felt for his character tbh. On my first viewing of the death note anime, I had completely forgotten he existed, which made L’s death scene a little confusing to me.

Mikami’s already here in episode one, wow. I did not remember it. I probably didn’t realize it was him on my first watch until later when it showed his name, and then I just reremembered the scene with him and Misa. But I thought it happened later in the show. Nope!

Misa’s traumatic flashback is also very sad.

Lind L Tailor being from the UK makes so much sense. It’s a little strange his pronunciation sometimes though, so I wonder if he was instructed to hold certain syllables to make his speech go longer in order for the Japanese translation to fit in that interval.

I could be wrong, but the Japanese translator sounds like L’s real voice too.

Interesting that this Light is not mad at being called evil, but that the police are justice which he doesn't agree with. He feels like he’s the only one helping people when police can’t.

Light looks conflicted after Lind Taylor’s death.

L (flips hood off as introduction):Yeah you can’t kill me.

It was kinda cool for the letter L to appear on screen for his introduction, because it seems like characters who will be important have their names put on screen when we meet them.

L: Don’t let police get you, Kira, I wanna catch you instead

Light:(unlocks panic attack version 2)

L throws himself into chairs lol. So relatable. 

Watari, help, his shirt is dirty. Also, it’s so funny to me because I know some people are simping for L taking off his shirt, but I physically don’t feel anything when it comes to people “looking hot” or whatever. Never have. So when I watch the show and he switches shirts, my brain goes “completely understandable, he’s a germaphobe” I’m a germaphobe too, just not to that extent.

Matsuda says hi to light while waving, like he’s a child. Oh, and now Matsuda’s spilling tea on L.

Matsuda: We’re close to catching Kira! Light: (sweats)

“L doesn’t meet with anyone” L: Hey Soichiro, let’s meet.

L making people (cough Watari) do stuff just by giving them a note. Power move.

I love the entrance to L’s hangout spot. It’s so elaborate and fun. It’s all serious, no intruders, also make everyone clean when they enter ‘cause germs are gross.

L doesn’t see Kira as human. Sorta gave me chills for some reason (maybe ‘cause this is the most sympathetic version of Light?). I wonder if he says that in the manga/anime, can’t remember.

Ryuk calls Light cool so much in this show. I wonder why the writers added that trait of his (genuinely curious)

DUDE I FORGOT NEAR/MELLO INTRO AT END OF EPISODE it revealed the names so cool lol, they get the lettering introduction too, while the credits are rolling!

Soooo much happened this episode, but I guess it makes sense since it’s an hour long. I was gonna watch the whole thing through no matter what when I first viewed this show, but this must’ve been such a good introduction episode to other people tuning in.

Possessed Kai Au where he doesn’t hate Morro the entire time, nor is sympathetic the whole time.

For over half of it, he’s upset at Morro and fighting possession, but doesn’t learn Morro’s age by asking or looking through memories.

He just actually notices Morro’s villain laugh and is like “oh…oh, that reminds me of when Lloyd tried to be a villain. Come to think of it, this guy throws tantrums like he did…so we’re doing this again.” And then he feels a bit bad lol.

And I like to think Morro died at the latest seventeen years old, but Kai’s still like “yeaaaaah, that’s a child…”

I know a lot of you like Epic the musical (don’t lie, I see right through you).

So, imagine the song Dangerous, but with Lloyd and Morro. 

This would be a dragons rising Au (canon divergence) since I haven’t seen part two of season three, and I know what happens here isn’t gonna happen lol. 

So Lloyd finds out that Thunderfang is still causing trouble, and he feels like he’s gotta fight him alone since his students are gone and all of the prophesied green ninja stuff. He doesn’t know how he’s gonna beat him, when everybody’s favorite cursed warrior pops in with a solution (out of nowhere too, like the true theater nerd he is, especially since most of his dramatic flare was erased in Dragons Rising. I understand that, but it’s still sad, so this is how I cope)

Lloyd is shocked at first but then realizes this is the guy who helped Arin (and he remembers Day of Departed), so, while he’s still cautious, he’s willing to hear Morro out. Morro also jokes about fate and the writers of destiny, saying that they wouldn’t let their precious green ninja get hurt (much to traumatized Lloyd’s disagreement) so Lloyd should be fine to just fight Thunderfang, no matter how difficult it is.

Throughout the song, Morro warns of the dangers Lloyd will face and how to fight them, such as the Forbidden Five, basically telling Lloyd to just say “screw it”, defeat them, and keep moving on (so Lloyd tries to while using rising dragon technique, but the scene would just move on since it’s in animatic form, along with Morro’s narration).

And lastly, Morro finally drops his dramatic facade and gets serious, taking off his mask to speak to Lloyd. He gives him a bottle full of the glowing liquid from the well, which is when Morro finally admits he had been consumed by Thunderfang, managed to escape and got the healing serum for Lloyd.

He tells him to drink it if Thunderfang tries to consume him, so that Lloyd won’t die (and if he does, then at least he’d pass on before Thunderfang could get Lloyd’s power). Morro also tells him that he can’t risk trying to get more at the well since there are soul suckers placed there to stop him, just like they did to Morro in the past. Around this time is when Lloyd is finally able to see Morro as a glowing orb, not his usual ghost self.

But Lloyd decides he WILL take on this challenge and do whatever is necessary to fight Thunderfang. He thanks Morro for the serum, but Morro says Lloyd shouldn’t, since it wasn’t Morro’s idea. Lloyd asks whose it was, but Morro leaves. (It would then be implied after the song ended that Wu and Morro’s spirits had finally reunited, and Wu just immediately asking Morro to help save his other students, therefore being the one who sent Morro in this animatic)

The end, now y’all can imagine this to the song like I do

I’m excited, I’ve been thinking of making a fanfic for BB’s life at Wammy’s (with a lot of A in it), and a lot of these prompts work with what I’m envisioning! Can’t wait to see what others do.

I think #5 now confirms my headcanon that Morro got his jawline showing because of the soulsuckers (yippie). Like, I always believed that’s what Ninjago was hinting at since he literally talked about needing to protect ghosts and at the end took off his mask (like a little surprise, if people hadn’t seen the promotional image of him without it ahead of time). But I wasn’t one hundred percent sure because I never saw anyone talking about it 🥲
