August laughs, leaning against the wall as he took another swig of his beer. “Trust me, he’s listening, even when you think he isn’t.  Having someone not constantly complaining already makes him leaps and bounds better than any other employee I’ve ever hired.  He hasn’t gone to the back to avoid you, so he at least tolerates you.”

The tan skinned woman leaned against the bar counter, having a eyebrow raised. Not like his answer? The only way she could possibly think of herself hating it if it was taking Sasha away or something. “You got my curious now, August. So start talking or I’ll do something unimaginable.” Fiona warned as she adjusted her hat so she had a better view of her surroundings.

August knew Fiona did not approve of his and Sasha’s relationship.  Every time he was seen being affectionate toward Sasha, he was met with disgust or ‘I’m going to murder you in you sleep’ glares from Fiona, but he often dismissed it as her just being overprotective of her little sister.  

“Relax.  Even if the deal did go through, its not like it would have happened anyways.  At least, now that I know the truth...”, he groans, backing away from her.  “Listen, Sasha lied about a lot of things, including even having a sister.  I still thought you were an archaeologist named Lidia Straus.  I believed everything she said and was even willing to put everything I had on the line for her, even my very life, if we got the money.  I had big plans.  I was planning on selling the Purple Skag, getting us tickets to leave Pandora, and was even planning on purposing to her with one of ma’s stolen rings.  I was even in the process of seeing if Vasquez could have hooked us up with a nice villa on a civilian planet.”

August sighs, purposely avoiding eye contact.  “My point being, Sasha deserves more than anyone else to have a decent life.  Sure, I was delusional thinking that maybe, just maybe, it could have been with me, but you do crazy things when you’re in love.”

“Not exactly the words I would use to describe myself but, hey!  Wait!  Sasha?  Is that you?”

August had expected that answer.  Most people that lived on Pandora were not here by choice.  If given the opportunity to leave, they would so in a heart beat, himself included.  There were very few active space stations here on Pandora and tickets are so expensive, you might as well just pay a skilled mechanic to build a private ship.  Either option, you are paying a small fortune, which of course, not many people here have.  

“I figured as much.  Sasha had said the same thing.  With your shares combined, you both could have been able to live comfortably on one of the civilian planets.  Eden-7 or Eden-5 would have been a nice choice.  It’s one of the more peaceful planets, though unfortunately I hear gun laws are very strict there.”, August says as he wipes of a section of his bar counter.

“As for me?  Well, I’m not really sure you would have liked my answer.”

This happened every time a first-timer walks into the Purple Skag.  They immediately start trying to make small talk with his bar tender and then are confused why he never answers back.  

Barry was good people.  He was a local here in Hollow Point and was one of the hardest, most honest people he knew.  August didn’t trust many people, yet he instantly won him over in his interview.  Barry may have looked like your run-of-the-mill quiet bandit, but if it wasn’t for him, the Purple Skag would have gone out of business a long time ago.

“Ya can talk to him all ya want but I promise he ain’t gonna talk back.”

Avery was gay?  Well, that was comforting to know.  However, Morrie’s last comment was...unexpected to say the least.  August blushed, scratching the side of his face.  While he had sex with dudes in the past, he was still very much in denial about enjoying it.  

He contemplated her offer for a moment.  “Is he hot?”

Josuke gazed at Yasuho, absolutely memorized at the trick.  Not many people could do it?  He looks down at his own elbow, making note of the distance relation.  He had a long neck, however his tongue was about average length.  Just, maybe...

Instictively, Josuke copied Yasuho’s movements and attempted to lick his elbow as well.  However, he came to where close to his his elbow.  “You’re right, Yasuho!  That’s so cool!  How did you do it!?”

"Shuuuu." Laito tuned rather cheerfully, "I heard you were falling behind in school, did you skip classes to have some fun with a girl?"

How annoying.  Of course that would be Laito’s assumption.  His mind always just had to go there.  True, it was no secret Shu was very behind on his classwork.  So much so he had to repeat his final year of school.  Sure, many girl offered to “tutor” him, but he had no interest in that.

He had been peacefully sleeping in the music room before his dear brother interrupted his peaceful session.  Not even opening his eyes, he removed one of his ear buds in acknowledgement.  “You wish.  Are you sure you aren’t confusing me with yourself?”

Avery?  He wondered who that could be.  A brother?  Close friend?  Boyfriend?  August had remembered that he had never once asked Morrie if she had a lover.  He had assumed as much as she slept around with him and possibly many others that she didn’t.  While August had feelings for her, he knew a more serious relationship was out of the question.  He respected that, but damn what he would give to have a wife just like her.  

August smirks.  “Sounds like my kind of guy!  Been awhile since I’ve had a good home brew!”, he laughs.  “So, Avery, huh?  What’s the relation?”

❝A little too persistent with the second one.❞ She answered, frowning. It was, so far, one of the things she liked the least. It wasn’t an entirely new thing, but Pandora was a bit more… Crass with it. She smiled at him when he handed her the napkins, however. She sat on one of the bar stools and set about wiping off the blood. [Maybe an exercise in futility, but she was fine with that.] ❝You’d think a simple “fuck off you ugly shit” would get the message across well enough.❞

“Not here on Pandora and definitely not in Hollow Point.  Most locals only respond to violence.  Being nice gets you killed here.”, he laughs casually as he motions for Tector to come dispose of the corpse.  “I would have stepped in, but it looked like you had it under control.  Besides, didn’t look like he was going to pay his tab anyways.  I’m August, by the way.  What can I do for you?”
