The Virgo energy flowing within me wants to obsess over the details. Wondering what species of flower and how many ways it can be used, Each time I pass a bewildering blossom. The idea is to see the details that help us feel connected; warning to perfection. I may have spent 10 minutes trying to figure out the name of this twig with strange octopus like tentacles... The Fern. I first think of my grandmother Viola Fern, then to family. She was a strong pillar of tradition and domestic strength; like the fern. She was always the most gentle and kind energy in the Room, but yet seemed deeply connected to helping support everyone within her community and beyond; like the fern. Even though she is not present with me now, like the fern that is not seen in the forest, a leafy blossom is sprouting somewhere with roots deeply and safely nestled within the soil below. Traditionally, thistle has been used for purification, to bring spiritual aid to the home, to protect from evil, and is associated with Mars, Aries and Fire. Growing them in your garden encourages protection, strength and healing.  Most are edible and some even quite nutritious but the small thistles and thorns make them difficult to harvest and often too feisty to deal with. Many cultures have sharman's and witches using thistle for protection salt and hexing spells; a strong ward of space. A Cherokee native taught me that fresh the sole flowers dropped and steaming water is a magical concoction to commune with spirits. As long as the elixir talks with the air (steams), you can talk with spirits.
