Imma be real: this started as a recolor, but I could not resist doing more than I had to. (Which is par, for me.) So now it's a set: two mesh edits, one conversion, and four accessories. 🕯️ "The Widow of the Waves" (1390)

“Some say, on certain nights… he still stands beside her.”

This portrait captures Countess Sarena Villareal (née Attewater) in the early months of her second pregnancy, following the tragic death of her first husband, Earl Anselm Villareal, in 1390.

Draped in black mourning attire, she sits in solemn contemplation at a window overlooking the sea—where Anselm’s body was committed to the waves following his fatal duel. Her hand rests protectively on her womb, her gaze cast beyond the horizon. Though silent, the image speaks volumes of grief, dignity, and the quiet strength of a young widow forced to carry on for the sake of her daughter—and for the heir she now carries.

🕯️ The Haunting Legend tells that, on certain nights, Anselm’s ghost lingers by her side, offering solace only she can sense. Some versions of this painting—most notably the “Midnight Veil” variant displayed in the North Wing—include a spectral re-rendering of the late Earl’s ghost, believed to be seen only after the bells strike twelve.

Players, take note: This painting is a recolor of “Portrait of Lady Mimsy Alcorn Shallot in the Garden” from the Reaper’s Rewards Event. Like the original, it features an in-game morph—a subtle visual transformation that reveals a ghostly presence to certain Sims.

This work is considered one of the most emotionally evocative portraits in the Historical Society’s collection and a defining visual artifact from the Great Upheaval of 1390.

“History is not remembered in ledgers—it is remembered in longing.”

What started as a single screenshot spiraled into a full custom portrait collection inside my Sims 4 medieval legacy save. Using reshade screenshots, AI painting effects, and the St. Bernard frame from Cats and Dogs, I’ve created a curated gallery of noble life in Windenburg—its triumphs, its tragedies, and everything in between.
