He’s not fearless, he’s too stupid to be afraid

Thinking about how the Red Death battle changed Hiccup. Like, quite literally. Because in Httyd 1, you see him running away from danger and being in a panic (which is understandable. It's only common sense to run from danger.) The only times he stands his ground is for Toothless and Astrid, so when others are in danger and he's the only one around to keep a level head.

Then the Red Death happens and any danger at all afterwards he takes in stride and handles with a certain levelheadedness expected from someone who's been in a deathmatch with a dragon the size of an island at the young age of 15 in order to save his father and tribe.

He still worries when his friends are in danger (a lot) and it's not like he doesn't run from danger when it's required, but it's not the same as during or before Httyd 1.

If you think about it, it's almost eerie how much that battle changed him. Like, it flipped a switch in him.

Hiccup went from nerdy green as a teen, to rockstar red as a young adult, to Emo/Goth black fully by 21, and it’s amazing, change my fucking mind

AKA Hiccup is totally edgy by the time he reaches 21, but I guess that makes sense because of the hell this guy’s gone through

It's so true, they fought a war with the dragons, Viggo, lost many lives with Drago, and went from flying as much as they wanted to being grounded after 6 years of doing so because of Grimmle. Their kids will never understand this because they live so high in the sky with most likely very little interaction with others beyond traders and those of their own island, they won't know what war is like and will mostly know peace, all Hiccup wanted in his own childhood and probably others too.

The adults will probably be a lot more tense than the next generation for at least another many years or so because they’re so used to things going wrong just when things are going right. They’ll hold onto the trauma of constantly wondering if another friend or family member is going to die like that’s normal, something their kids will never feel.

Dang, you got me thinking with this one, man.

Got the sudden realization that the children of the Dragon Riders (and any child born after the war ended in Httyd 1) will not know the same childhood their parents knew. They live in a Viking society, so those troubles will still be there, but they won't know what a war for 300+ years between man and dragon looks like.

Their parents still do, though. And I wonder if the children notice.

Actually, I just found out I can get it with Game Pass! So, it’s cheaper but has a monthly payment. Basically, I have it for this month for a dollar, maybe not next month which goes up to $15, but I can at least play it for this month!

Everyone always talks about moding Minecraft Java and playing with others on Java, and here I am with Bedrock that I bought years ago because someone told me to, and now I can’t afford Java…I don’t remember who told me to get Bedrock but I SO wish I had Java so I could actually play with my friends.

I don’t even know why this song is stuck in my head because it is literally the dumbest song ever, talking about how kids are gonna drop out of school because their fidget spinners make them ‘too cool’, but I used a tiny clip of the song in a video I made about my fidget toys that I have not knowing the full song at the time and it’s been stuck in my head for like 2 days now.

Not only that but you have to think they’re entire lives since they were born, they’ve been at war in some form or fashion because of the dragons. 

1. A war with dragons up until they were 15 2. A war with Alvin and Dagur over dragons when they were 16 3. A war with dragon hunters to stop them from killing dragons when they were 18 4. A mini-war with Drago who had a dragon kill Hiccup’s father-the chief of their island-when they were 20 5. Another mini-war with Grimmle and his guys who wanted to use dragons to take of the world when they were 21/Fighting Dragon Hunters every few days who wanted to kill dragons

Yeah, it’s SUPER sad that the dragons left and that Berk got burned to the ground, but they’ve been around 9 years now without any dragon-wars and considering they live so high up in New-Berk and so far away from other civilization I would say they probably have very few battles beyond maybe a trade route thing or a domestic dispute on their own island nowadays. EVERYONE seems more chill, even Gobber who’s not as ‘tough’ as he used to be, and even Ruffnut has found someone to be romantic with.

There was such a balance, a chemistry, loyalty, and the biggest support coming from Astrid. And Hiccup clearly adores her. Gods, you could almost touch their love through the screen.

Idk why but I feel like motherhood smoothed Astrid a bit, obviously if someone tries to mess with her children she'll snap them using just her thumb, but yeah, I felt her more relaxed, more at ease.

Ended my relationship with my Boyfriend of 4 years because he had abused me twice and he neglected me emotionally. Really freaking odd feeling right now honestly. I don’t even feel sad, I just feel numb. This’ll be my first time having an Ex-Boyfriend since we started dating in high school.

Hiccup Protection Squad

Okay, okay, okay BUT THIS DUDE DOES NOT deserve everything that has happened to him! He’s a sweet bean that just wants adventure and friendship and draws trouble to himself like a toddler in a kitchen!  The poor guy didn’t do anything WRONG but he is forced to become a warrior and a chief and a leader and a grown ass man ALL SO FAST and he DOESN’T DESERVE ANY OF IT. The guy’s lost almost everything and is still expected to take on so much, and does so without complaint.

Um....yeah, sorry for the breakdown, but can we like, reblog and make this a Hiccup appreciation/Hiccup protection thread??? I have the bubble wrap!

I think you’re talking about one of the last episodes of one of the seasons of Riders of Berk, where Alvin the Treacherous calls him ‘Stoick’s little runt’ so Hiccup feels like he has to fight him-I’m guessing because he doesn’t want the others around to think Alvin’s right. It’s the same episode the riders realize, according to Astrid, ‘the dragons have taken their training to a whole new level’ and rescue Hiccup after Alvin had his men shoot a net at Hiccup and Toothless when Hiccup tried to attack him.

I really do love this interaction between Hiccup and Snotlout. You can see in a few different Race to The Edge scenes that Snotlout is no doubt someone who wouldn’t think twice about helping Hiccup-even though he may taunt him in other situations. It’s kinda like me and my little siblings when one of them would talk about being bullied by my ex-stepdad or someone at school. I would help them immediately if I could, but at the same time I would fight with them and banter with them. Am I saying Snotlout and Hiccup act like brothers at some points? Yes, yes, I am, a brothers in arms kinda relationship, the kind where someone says ‘I can hurt them but I’m THE ONLY ONE who can hurt them.’ ALSO I JUST HAVE TO SAY THIS EVEN THOUGH IT KIND OF RUINS THE MOOD!

Snotlout: “Thank you, dead body.” Hiccup: “I guess I can live with that.”

I’m sorry but I can never not mention that super inappropriate for the current scenario yet super funny and quick-witted pun.

Just wanted to show this great moment between Snotlout and Hiccup as the former decides, without a single complaint, to help out a friend and find him a new leg.

I like that Snotlout decides to help Hiccup out without even batting an eye. I like that he does it in a humorous and typical way for him while still showing that he’s genuinely trying to help a guy out.

There is no useless taunting banter, no sarcasm, no other Snotlout-y things he probably would have said if this were to have taken place in the past, just Snot immediately finding a solution for Hiccup’s problem, getting to solving it without wasting time, and not immediately asking for something in return.

I like that he actually did pick out a left leg for Hiccup to use too. And one that fits!

The dialogue was also quite whimsical.

Hiccup: *babbling nonsense*

Momma Snotlout: Hush you!

And then there is that little victory smirk after he attaches the bone leg. Such a Snotface…face.

But most of all, I love how, when Hiccup stands up to test out his spoopy new leg, Snotlout actually stays kneeled and checks to make sure this is an okay solution for Hiccup, not smiling or smirking or anything. Just waiting and seeing if Hicc can stand like this.

I just really love this moment, I really do. It is the Hiccup and Snotlout that I will never forget. We can basically see, in just this moment alone, how much Snotlout has grown in Race to the Edge.
