One of my favorite feature of Hextml is submaps. They can be used to split the world into multiple continent, create more detailed maps, etc... And thanks to the link feature you don't even need to go though the menus and tabs to find you map, you can just click next to the city tile to jump to the city map.
If you liked the video don't hesitate to share it on social media, that would really help me :) And if you have any question you can leave a comment.

For a while now Hextml has had the ability to change the zoom. At first there was only 3 zoom level but now you can choose any zoom level you like and this video shows you how.
If you like Hextml and you want to help me you can share this video or just talk about it with your GM friends (or normal friends, it's fine too).

Finally! The video about collaboration is here, it's quite long because there is a lot to see.
You will discover that Hextml has the ability to share a map in realtime with any number of person. You can use this feature to build a map with your co-gm or to transform Hextml into a Virtual Tabletop.
If you want to help promote Hextml you can share this video wherever you want and show it to your friends :)

Today we discover the outline mode, while activated you only see hexes that contains something (notes, secret notes, symbols, ...).
It's an easy way to find something if you forgot in which hex you put by just using the "search in page" feature of your browser.
As usual, you can share this article/video at the usual places if you want to help me. Also I really like to see the maps you make with Hextml so don't hesitate to post them in the comments or to DM me with them, it really make my day :)
This feature was proposed to me by a friend and it was implemented very quickly (some time ago) so don't hesitate to ask for new features, I'll try and implement them as fast as possible :)

The tiles included with Hextml are not for everybody, some find them ugly, some want science fiction tiles, some want their own specific tiles for everything.
Well, good news! It's perfectly possible to use custom tiles and symbols either from your computer or from anywhere on the internet and this video shows you how.
Did you know about this feature? I'm trying to gauge how much of an help this videos are. As usual you can share the video/article anywhere you want, and event talk about the maps you made with your friends in the real world!

I have to admit that the interface of Hextml kind of get in the way during my sessions. So a while ago I made the "GM mode", it is a way to easily get from an hex to another without the complex interface of Hextml showing.
This video shows how I use it and I hope it will help you to discover all the features and Hextml :)
This serie of video will continue, I'll try to post a video every week, in the meantime you can help me by talking of Hextml to your friends on twitter, sharing and showing (to me!) the maps you made. You can even propose enhancements!

Today I present to you a video showing how to use any image from anywhere on internet as the background of your map. It's especially useful for battlemaps as you can see in this video, especially with the fog of war. Some day I'll present the collaboration tool, it really goes very well with this.If you have any feedback on Hextml you can leave it in the comments below (or on twitter @hextml if that's more your style).

The list of tiles can get very long in Hextml. Sometimes you cycle through a tile at the top and a tile at the bottom. That's when the pin function becomes useful! This feature is greatly underused as far as I can tell and it really improve your user experience so don't hesitate to share this video so that people can use it too.Any ideas about improving Hextml? Just leave a comment and we'll see what we can do :)

[40x40] The Watcher’s deathbed. | It’s, once again, battlemap time! That time in which Syg shares yet another map for her campaign! I’ve shared a couple of posts with Vest’s chorus and such, and this one is how it looked as a map. You know, drawing your character’s crystallized corpse from a bird’s eye view is quite strange. I’ve mentioned a bit about what are Chorus. They’re, uh, the crystal structure that forms around a body of someone afflicted with the latest stage of crystal corruption: If they have survived until that point, the crystal finally overtakes the last inches of flesh and, once the body is fully crystallized, the person becomes a watcher, which is an undead creature. They are actually incorporeal in nature, so their crystallized corpses are left behind. And well, that includes Vest. His seed (a sort of phylactery formed alongside the chorus) was taken away, and his body was forgotten in a frozen mountain in the middle of nowhere, where his father killed him. Vest got killed by his own staff, as part of the process to make him into a watcher against his own will. But hey! Now the roguelock has the weapon for herself! And they’ll do cursed shit with it

Hextml is not as straightforward as I would like so I figured a video showing how I use it may be of help to some of you.
The normal speed version is also available.

I made a replay function that redraws the map that was just drawn for Hextml and while I’m at it let’s showcase the border tool that’s greatly underused.

D&D Maps using Spreadsheets
Ever since I first tried DM’ing, I have jumped from one method to another of creating maps for my D&D games. Recently I was using a Google Doc spreadsheet for something and it occured to me that I could use these to make maps.
What it is
I basically set the spreadsheet to be a small squared grid and apply conditional formatting to the entire grid along with a key of what means what. So once it’s set up, if I type a letter ‘T’ in a square, that square turns dark green and now represents ‘Trees’, same as ‘M’ means mountains and turns grey, ‘V’ means village, ‘C’ means city and shows as orange, and so on.
On top of the basic auto-colour coding mentioned above, you can right click any of the squares and ‘insert notes’ which gives you a text box to include any notes you have about that map-space(like a town name and who lives there)
Why it’s awesome
Super simple, hassle free You can do it anywhere you like without needing any special software or apps (all browsers run google sheets i’m fairly sure). And it’s as easy as typing letters into a spreadsheet.
Can be shared easily You can share it with friends thanks to the great sharing functions of google, you could even work on it at the same time as someone else(if you’re brave enough to try co-DMing).
Customisable You can use the same method for world maps, town maps and dungeon maps. You could even make multiple pages of the documents for different levels of a dungeon.
Template/Example
I know not everyone is as into making spreadsheets as me, so below is a link to an example world map and city map (tabs down the bottom for different pages)
Example document link Blank template link
You should be able to click ‘File >> Make a copy’ to copy it and edit it yourself.
Other things you could do
- Hyperlink the letter to a google doc or another page in the spreadsheet - Use symbols instead of letters, works well for dungeons, you could have slashes for up/down stairs etc.
Let me know
If you use this method please let me know how it goes for you, if you find this article confusing i’d love to hear about it so I can fix it up to make it more useful.
